I won a cake smash photoshoot via a competition on Instagram and thought it would be the perfect way to celebrate our baby boys first birthday.

The photoshoot went well despite our baby's reluctance to have any involvement with the cake but we were excited to see the photos nonetheless.

We were slightly worried about the affordability of the pictures as the price for these are extremely high but thought that we maybe able to purchase a few prints rather than frames. We were particularly excited to see the photos when we received our sneak peak.

However, 2 weeks later at the viewing I was confused regarding the photos we were being presented with. My baby didn't look like my baby. Despite some discussions around what packages may be available (which interestingly and very quickly became different to what we were originally advised was policy, but then when sales are not being made can quickly go out of the window) we decided that the look of the majority of these photos were not for us and we worked through the ones taken to try and narrow it down in order to make a decision around which one we would take as our free picture as given with the package.

I questioned why my baby looked odd and computer generated. I was informed that the photographer had attempted to enhance the photos. However, the lady showing us the pictures was in agreement that the edit of these photos were not great and that she would be speaking with the photographer as this was not the standard expected. We were offered the unedited version of these photos if we wanted to purchase them all on a usb stick for £995 but these were not the photos we had been shown. I struggled with confusion for the remainder of the viewing as to why anyone would feel it would be acceptable to edit and filter not just my baby but potentially any 1 year old child.

By the time I returned to my car I was in tears. For anyone to think it is acceptable to highly edit and filter a child is completely unacceptable. It is also insulting and incredibly hurtful. Altering photos of a minor without parental approval is a serious breach of trust and falls well below professional standards.

We are happy with the picture we ultimately chose; however, it now stands as a constant reminder of the hurt and frustration caused by the unauthorised editing of the other photos and the overall experience. We wanted a beautiful reminder of our baby's birthday which will now feel forever tarnished.

We will not be using venture studios again in the future or recommending them to anyone else.

Niamh is literally the BEST!!! Her photography and professionalism but calm relaxed vibe meant me and my husband and our cat had the most incredible time at our shoot, and felt chilled out and confident. The cat ended up enjoying it in the end I think, and did not want to leave! If you have a cat that you would like photos with, Naimh is a fab photographer as she has cats herself.

We attended the Leicester Venture Photography Studios in Ratby. Dom was absolutely amazing with our maternity and newborn shoot. Such a professional and personal experience. The viewing experience was so emotional. Can't wait to receive our frames and photos! ❤️

Absolutely amazing place for a photo shoot. Staff were very welcoming and helpful and dis everything to make our time there as amazing as possible. Our photographer Ben was so friendly and our kids loved him. He took some amazing pictures and made all of our children feel at ease and included in the whole thing

I had an incredible photoshoot with Emma. She made us feel comfortable right away and her friendly approach helped bring out our natural expressions.

The photos came out stunning—better than I imagined. I’m so grateful to her for capturing these moments so beautifully.

Overall, it was a wonderful experience, if you’re thinking about booking a shoot—do it!

We recently “won” a free photoshoot and a small framed image through an Instagram link. The studio experience itself was genuinely lovely — the team were welcoming, attentive, and made the whole session feel special. We had a great time and the photos were absolutely stunning.

However… be prepared for multiple in-person visits, as everything from viewing to ordering has to be done at the studio. And the pricing? Whew. Brace yourself. The cheapest package started at £945, with digital images alone quoted at £1,345. As much as we adored the photos, those prices were way out of our budget.

The staff did offer a payment plan, which helped, but it’s still a huge financial commitment. Also, the “free” photo prize feels a bit like a marketing tactic — it seems like everyone wins, and once you’ve seen the photos, it’s hard to walk away without buying something. To get a better deal, you even have to swap the free framed picture, which felt a bit cheeky.

Overall, the experience itself was lovely, the staff were great, and the photos are beautiful. But the prices are extremely high — especially in a cost-of-living crisis — and £1,345 for digital files only is a shock, considering the whole process is roughly 4–5 hours of work. More accessible pricing would make this a truly brilliant experience for more people.

The photographer Rhi, was brilliant. So engaging with my granddaughter. Made my daughter and her husband feel at ease. Took all the photos they wanted and loads of ideas they hadn’t thought of.

Went in to see Milton today to select what they wanted and he was outstanding. Absolute gentleman and helped in such a brilliant way to pick the pictures and go through everything.

Don’t hesitate to book in…you will be glad you did

We are so pleased with all the photos, couldn’t be happier. Hardest bit is picking which ones to keep.

Very friendly people. Great experience during the photo shoot. Very informative during the viewing and explaining the finance options.

I had won a bronze prize for a photo shoot for my dog Bear, Dom took the fabulous photo's and was so good with my very excitable Bear.
We went back a week later and Isla helped me to narrow down my choices not an easy task, while also having Bear on her knee !!
We had a lovely time at Venture Studios I would recommend anyone to try it.

Me and my partner were very nervous about the photoshoot as my partner isn't very photogenic. However, Ellie was so kind and gentle especially with our 1 year old boy and our newborn baby. She captured amazing photos of us and our babies. She met our needs and listened to how we wanted our photos. We didnt feel rushed we felt very comfortable and had a good laugh. My son loved her also. The team are so welcoming and kind. They offered drinks and snacks and gave us extra time for free for our newborn to feed and change her. Honestly it was an amazing experience!

This was bought as a gift for myself and my partner for an early Christmas present. We attended Liverpool studio.

The session was to capture a snapshot of our first born son Arthur. From the get go the staff were very welcoming and friendly.

We had Hannah as our photographer and she was fantastic for the whole shoot. She asked for our input and guidance throughout the whole process which made it very relaxing. She was absolutely brilliant at capturing beautiful pictures of us all. She also dealt with Arthur in such a lovely personal way.

After our session we were sent away with all the information we needed to make a selection at home of what we wanted. This again made the process easy and we felt much more relaxed when deciding what package we wanted.

We then attended our session a few weeks later with Jess to view the images. Once again staff were amazing and Jess was so lovely with Arthur. It felt really personal and enjoyable. The viewing made us all teary eyed as they had captured really special moments. Jess then worked with us to help choose the package which best suited what we wanted. Again very knowledgeable and it felt very personal and professional experience.

We can’t thank the staff enough for what they have made for us. We would highly highly recommend the studio in Liverpool.

Liv & Evelyn were absolutely fantastic. They ensured we had ample time to get the perfect shots of our son's 1st Birthday cake-smash photo shoot and then allowed us as much time as needed to select and choose from our gorgeous photos. 100% would recommend for a memorable experience that will live in our home forever.

we had the most amazing photoshoot with our dog Milo at Venture studios. from booking in to the final viewing everything was perfect and easy to arrange. The girls who work there are so lovely and are really interested in capturing beautiful photos of your family x

Dom and Kelly were both amazing at the Leicester studio in Ratby. Kelly took some amazing photos of me and my boys, capturing our personalities and making the shoot super fun. The previews I saw looked and I cannot wait to receive them and Dom did an amazing job with the photo movie presentation and walking me through the various size and frame options along with the flexible finance plans. Would 100% recommend and will definitely use again 👍

From the photoshoot right through to the viewing the whole experience was wonderful. Jess our photographer made the session feel easy, natural and quick which with 2 young kids was just perfect. Jo was so useful at the viewing sharing her wealth of experience and knowledge to help us make our decisions. And the quality of the work is second to none, the images were simply stunning.

The words we have simply will not do our family photoshoot justice. From start to finish we had the best time. Jake was our photographer in the Leamington Spa venue and he captured our family beautifully. He got the most perfect photos of our daughters and truly made them both shine! Our 6 year old loved it-who knew we had a little model on our hands. Thank you Jake for an amazing shoot and as expected we walked away with all our images, we could not choose. Jas was amazing too she welcomed us with a warm friendly smile and talked us through all our options and what looked best for our home. Thank you Jas and Jake for an amazing shoot!!

From entering the studio everybody made us feel so welcome. The service is brilliant from ringing beforehand asking certain questions about what you would like done on this special day. Jordan took our photos and he was a superstar as my 5 year old Autistic boy is so hard to get a photo of but he made it so fun for our kids and us as well and didn't rush us. He prepped us about everything when we had our next visit to view the photos which was great and we can be organised too. Beth showed us all our photos when we went back and omg how beautiful they all was and she explained everything from all the packages as the booklets can be too much to understand. Everyone is just so helpful happy and makes you feel so comfortable. So glad we came and made memories with all you guys
