I really enjoy my learning journey with verbalplanet! The tutors are amazing.

I worked on this platform for a couple of years, and while it's not inherently bad, it falls short in comparison to similar platforms. Here are some issues that the owners should address:

1.Lack of Synchronization with Google and Mac Calendar:
Most teachers operate on various platforms, and on Verbal Planet, there's a significant drawback – the absence of synchronization with Google and Mac calendars. This forces teachers to manually update their availability regularly, which becomes a tedious chore.

2.Exclusive Use of PayPal for Payments:
Another notable concern is the exclusive reliance on PayPal for payments, which incurs a substantial commission. The platform should explore alternative payment methods to provide more flexibility and reduce the financial burden on teachers.

3.Limited Student Base:
A critical issue is the scarcity of students on Verbal Planet. The platform appears to do little in terms of self-promotion, resulting in fewer students compared to other platforms. Personally, on other platforms I found the same number of students in one month as I found on Verbal Planet in a year.

4.Lack of Transparency Regarding Commissions:
The site's lack of transparency regarding commission rates is problematic. Teachers are unclear whether it's a fixed amount or a percentage. As a user, I still don't know the exact commission structure, but it's evident that students are paying nearly 50% of the lesson price in commissions. Clear communication about these details is crucial for building trust.

To the owners of Verbal Planet: It's 2023, and the appearance and functionality of your site are outdated. It's time to modernize and address these issues to enhance the overall user experience.

The teacher is competent and nice. The site’s easy to maneuver and the cost is fair.

If you are interested in learning a new language with a native speaker, Verbal Planet is a great choice. I find the platform easy to use, for vetting and selecting a language teacher, scheduling sessions and managing payments. Working with a native speaker is much more productive than using apps. The average cost for instruction is very reasonable.

The Tutor are excellent, Verbalplanet keeps increasing their fees every few months, which I think it is unfair. They should have a minimum fixed fee for the booking and then the Tutor's fee should be paid directly to the Tutor.

This is a great site for booking language lessons. I've been using it for several years. You can choose the profile of your teacher based on location & availability. It's easy to use and flexible to make changes.

I have used Verbal Planet for several years. I really like the fact it can connect learners to teachers so effectively.

Highly recommend Verbal Planet. They have thought of everything to make interactive learning on line efficient and effective.

It’s been 4 days since I’m trying to approve my teacher profile and they keep reject me. They NEVER answered me once telling me why. I’ve added a new profile pic, my experiences, my education, Skype account..still nothing. They just don’t want more teachers and they don’t tell you.

What made my experience great is my fantastic tutor, Jerome Deparou.

Every lesson is interesting, relevant and fun, plus I always learn lots from Jerome.

Had a bad experience with a specific tutor, increasing the price by a factor of three after I indicating that I want to continue and book several lectures in advance. The price increase was not visible at first and I was charged more than 70 EUR/45 minutes. Canceling the booked lectures is not possible on the platform. After submitting a complaint VerbalPlanet reimbursed me and was helpful. The price increase was then also indicated on the tutor's page. Since there are several tutors indicating similar prices / 45 minute lecture the method might be applied by other tutors as well. So better not book several lectures in advance in order to avoid simiar experiences.

I like the fact that you can see the description and background of each tutor, so you can find one that might suit you. Also, it's very convenient to see all available timeslots of tutors and if you are shy to say goodbye you can just stop scheduling classes :)

What upset me is the refund policy, each student has only 1 trial and in case for any reason the trial didn't happen, they will not return it to you. Like, in my case, the teacher didn't show up for a lesson, but I wasn't able to use trials anymore to schedule a lesson with some other teachers :/
