It’s so important to practice with a native speaker. Verbal Planet is an easy and affordable way to be matched with a tutor. Shout out to Aurélie Simon-Chautemps, whose lessons are terrific and whose humor I can’t do without.

I’ve been a member with verbalplanet for over a year now. I’m exceptionally happy with my French tutor and constantly see my progress. The platform is very easy to navigate, with plenty of reminders and support available. I’ve never had any issues with them and HIGHLY recommend the French tutor Jean-Pierre!

I’ve been teaching on this website for a while. They pay teachers through paypal but paypal isn’t available in my country. Before they used to send the money via western union and there was no problem. Since the time they stopped using western union i’ve always had problem to receive my money. Now i requested my money which was only 30 euros they didn’t send it for almost 3 months. They said they sent it with Wise but i use it for some years and never had a single problem. I will take -hopefully- my money and close my account there. That’s the respect they give to their teachers.

After 9 months with another company that was disappointing, I found Verbal Planet and took a chance with a free lesson. I am so glad I did. Excellent professional service with no hassle. Quick and efficient when rescheduling meeting times if needed. Just enough gentle reminders to aid the clients. And professor choices are impressive!

I have been using VerbalPlanet for many years now. I find it to be a user-friendly service that takes into account not only the tutor preferences but also your time zone. The rescheduling and cancellation policies are clear and just. I always recommend the service to everyone looking to improve their knowledge of foreign languages.

I recently had some trouble with payments on verbalplanet. Thanks to the kind and helpful staff, I was able to sort things out.

Smooth experience so far. I had good luck with teachers. Can't speak to how the company would handle negative experiences or conflict. Will continue using.

Overall the company is not terrible if you are a teacher and if you have an issue with a student not paying (when they pay directly to you) they take care of the situation and you will usually get the situation solved.
My main issue is when students pay through the website (majority of them do) because the payment takes forever to arrive. I feel like it's getting worst besides getting better. I had to wait three weeks to get the payment of only two lessons which was about 35$. Imagine you use this a primary income, you would have to stop eating and everything for two or three weeks until you get paid. You should definitely use it as a additional extra income and don't count on that money.
I have requested about 4 payments of different lessons and none of them arrive. I just got one after waiting for almost three weeks. This situation is a little frustrating as you have already taught the lesson and even the same student books more lesson and while you are on your fourth lesson with them, you haven't even received the payment of the first lesson.
I would understand this if you had a fixed payment every month as you do when you teach at a school, but we are talking about one to one lesson. Most of the websites pay you instantly or put everything on hold for one week; more than that seems outrageous. You don't cook a big dinner for an event and get paid three weeks after.

I think they need to fix that issue and even hire more people or figure out something regarding the payment situation. COVID can't be an excuse forever to delay things.

Other than that big issue, it is a good company.

I can't recommend Verbalplanet -- and my teacher specifically -- highly enough. Language is meant to be spoken and you can only learn so much from a book, language apps, etc. Live instruction is the only way to prepare for the give and take of actual conversations -- especially if you plan to use your new language when you travel! Verbalplanet provides a user-friendly platform, and you book your lessons in your own time zone, so there's no confusion about when your lesson will be. Reasonable prices, too!
