My wife and I recently went through the garden design process with Jessica, Alex & Samuel. We are absolutely over the moon with the end product and the process as a whole. It’s very rare to find a company that invest that time into the process with you. Our garden was in a dire state and now is a gleaming cottage garden. We can’t wait to use Willow Alexander Gardeners to keep the garden looking amazing. Thanks again to the team!

Disappointing….

We initially thought we had found the perfect company to help design a part of our garden, especially since several of our neighbours were already using Willow Alexander Gardening Company for their gardening needs. After contacting them and explaining what we were looking for, we sent pictures. We were hoping they would return with a creative and functional design for a section of our garden fence to provide some much-needed privacy.

Unfortunately, instead of coming up with a thoughtful design that matched our vision, they simply suggested cheap trellises that weren't even a feasible solution since I have explained trellises couldn’t be fitted onto the neighbour’s fence. All in all, their response lacked any real design input or useful advice, which was quite disappointing.

Since then, we've found a different company that was able to bring our vision to life and deliver exactly what we were hoping for. In the end, Willow Alexander didn’t meet the expectations we had from a professional landscaper.

Willow Alexander were superb!

Willow Alexander were amazing at helping my mum out with her garden with a basic re-design and maintenance.

Both me and my mum have limited experience with gardening so were very happy when we came across Willow Alexander and their excellent and professional website after a friend recommended them.

They carried out a consultation on site to talk through what they were going to do and then followed up on the agreed date with a team of two for the day (it's a fairly small garden). They explained one was a lead Gardener and the other is an assistant and both were great and very friendly with us whilst getting the work done that was agreed. We asked the Lead Gardener for some tips and he was very well spoken and provided some useful tips for us to follow with some of our plants and weeds.

We were happy with the price as we have paid for cheaper companies before but you have to so careful as a lot are very unskilled / dodgy cowboy builder type people who will use cheaper materials, cut corners etc and we've been left with issues before.

Would highly recommend Willow Alexander to ensure your garden is done right.

Disappointing customer service

My experience with Willow Alexander started off really well with Alex, who came round to survey the patio I wanted to fence up. However it’s been a struggle from then on. I’ve booked different sides of the patio to ensure I could pay for the different quotes at different times and I’ve now been left without a gate as I’ve been chasing for a quote for 8 days. The summary of my experience is below:
- Callum is really good at his job however he’s either been left alone when it was supposed to be a 2-man job, or he’s been accompanied by uninterested colleagues
- On 2 occasions they had to come back on a different day to finish the job as either they’d run out of time or they didn’t have the tools for it
- Quotes don’t always make sense, some are competitive and some are really expensive. Had to ask for clarity twice
- Getting a quote from Willow Alexander has become painstakingly hard: 8 days for the leftover work, but previously I waited over 2 weeks for another 2 quotes
All in all, I’m happy with the end result and the quality of work delivered but everything else is nothing short of a shambles. It shows that not only the output matters - customer service is really poor, inconsistent quotes, delays, all this matters.

Great service provider

Just used the window cleaning service, absolutely brilliant. Been using garden maintenance team for years and so pleased to see them branching out into other services. Will be exploring handyman next! Keep up the great work!

Unfortunately awful

I wanted to like this company. Initial response was good, and we agreed on an initial cleanup ahead of a bigger redesign of the garden and an ongoing maintenance contract.

Cleanup was a frustrating experience - the team was lovely, but despite multiple photos and discussions had apparently only scheduled 2 hours (without discussing with me), for a job that was always likely to take twice that. Ultimately persuaded them to stick around long enough to finish 75% of the job in the understanding they would finish the rest when returning for the ongoing maintenance.

After that - nothing. Complete lack of response on the garden redesign stage, nothing on the ongoing maintenance. Eventually got a response from the "Managing Director" saying he would take it in hand personally. Zero response after that.

I want to like this company, but honestly its been an utter shambles.

Expensive, a lot of talk but little substance

Summary:
My advice is to proceed with caution. Expensive, a lot of talk, sadly not backed up with a lot of substance. Hit and miss gardeners. Poor customer service, little acknowledgement or empathy when customers are unhappy with service.

Here’s a more detailed review below:

Booking:
- We were impressed by initial consultation with Alex, who appeared to have a lot of knowledge and ideas. However, it went downhill from there….

- Strangely we were quoted different prices for a day job, was first quoted £770 for a 3 person team, and then over £1000 and when questioned, why the difference - I was told the quote was from a while ago, although the two quotes were 1 week apart. Maybe there was some logic to the calculations but the numbers appeared to be plucked from thin air with random “discounts applied”.

In the end, we agreed to go with a 2-person team for £770 for the day, although it was more expensive than other companies inquired into, we thought they’d be able to deliver based on Alex’s initial consultation and hoping the other gardeners would have similar knowledge. Oh how we were wrong - they have a big team but it really depends on who they send on the day.

On the day:
- One of the gardeners was great, however the other gardener, who they’ve now shared was a trainee gardener, appeared uninterested and stood around, not doing much the majority of the day. He shared he hated his job, suffering from hay fever and wasn’t motivated to actually do any work and at times, was seen just sitting in the car on his phone.

As a result, this impacted what was achieved on the day. However Willow Alexander are unable to acknowledge this, instead deflect to write about how the priorities changed in the day. All we had done was switch the order of task 3 and 4 around, regardless the team said they wouldn’t get around to doing those tasks anyways, so it made no difference.

At the start of the day, we were assured by the team lead that the first two tasks on priority list “would definitely be done”. However, this was not the case. Only half of the first and second task was done.

Handling of the complaint/customer service:
What’s disappointing is Willow Alexander are not able to acknowledge this, and insist we are “happy” with the results. We most certainly are not and furthermore deflect

I’ve waited a few weeks to write this review to give Willow Alexander the opportunity to address the complaint. However, since making the complaint we haven’t been able to speak to anyone directly and have been waiting weeks for management to give us a call, despite multiple chase ups.

We’ve asked for partial refund, given we paid £770 for effectively a 1 person team, instead of 2 and all that was offered via email is 15% discount for a future service, however rest assured, we won’t be using them again.

Overall, the results were nothing special, expensive and the overall service was disappointing.

Thank you for your feedback and we are sorry you believe you were not delivered the service you requested. Allow us to address your points clearly as we have done across all emails we have responded too from you.

As we have stated to you via email, our philosophy is based on the delivery of the end result and output We also believe that a working relationship with any of our clients is a two way street and realistic expectations and attitude towards our team members is paramount to success.

To give context to your complaint we had seen your estate and given you a range quote for the vast amounts of works that was required which was not in scope for you at the time. We instructed you clearly and sent you an agreement that stated we would approach this on a day basis chipping away at certain elements but you would have to manage your expectation on what could be delivered per day.

You then used our booking platform and booked a prepaid amount of works. You then spoke with our sales team and requested further works to be included as well as further discounting which was not feasible within the parameters of the prepaid amount.

On confirming the job you were issued with a list of what was going to be delivered to ensure to manage your expectations. When the team arrived on site you issued them with a different set of tasks many of which were not in scope of the above mentioned quote you had paid for. The team had to communicate with head office to ensure a satisfactory results on what was paid for.

As mentioned in previous email which appreciate all feedback and have passed onto Ben your feedback of his “exceptional work ethic and quality of work” so we were confused at the expectation of a 50% refund of your service.

The issue we are addressing is your dissatisfaction with one of our junior gardeners who is there to assist our team leaders in delivering the results. We had prevouisly expressed prior to the works commencing that one gardener would be doing the main body of cutting with the other gardener following behind doing the clean up and taking waste off site.

In response to one of our gardeners “sitting in their van” though we will review this with the team this may have been one of their allocated breaks that was factored into the day and expressed to you as this was an all day project.

In your complaint about our service you have requested a 50% refund on the project as you didn't believe one of the gardeners worked as hard as the other (despite the above explanation) while also commenting that “over all we are very satisfied with the end result” and “ hopes to have continued regular future maintenance” from the company.

I am sure you can appreciate that if a customer is overall happy with what was delivered and had all items that needed to be addressed delivered satisfactory then it is rather perplexing to be expected to refund them 50% of the monies for the service.

Our customer service team has stated that one of the manager would be giving you a call to discuss your complaint but had made clear our position on your expectation. Sadly the timing of such was still not efficient enough for you.

As a company we offered a good will gesture of 15% of your next booking in hope to appease your expectation of refund but sadly still this was not satisfactory.

Though we wish to do the best by every client we have we are also realistic that some customers expectation far out way anything that could be delivered.

We are sorry we did not meet your requirement and take all valid complaints very seriously but on this occasion we feel we have offered what was suitable for the situation.

Best of luck in the future, we do hope find a gardening company that could meet your standard and expectation.

Unfortunately despite chasing them numerous times via phone and email we never received a quote and it’s been weeks now . Disappointing

Removal of two small trees

Reasonable price for job. Quick response to query and quick appointment for work to be undertaken.
Turned up with no delays, did exactly what they agreed to do; trees cut down and removed.
Will definitely get a quote from them for tree care and garden maintenance in the future.

Amazing garden since Willow has taken…

Amazing garden since Willow has taken over since May this year. Really lovely gardeners. Very knowledgable. Makes such a difference when you know what you are doing. They also fixed our garden lights which haven't worked for two years. I would highly recommend them.

Happy Customer

Slight delay on delivery but customer service were great at sorting this and it was worth waiting for in the end. Good value and great product. The shells look beautiful in my potted plants and most importantly they keep those annoying little gnats out of the soil.
