That's why I'm glad to know that WP Engine is always there when we need them. Having a reliable partner that stands behind their platform and supports agencies like ours when issues arise provides a great deal of confidence and peace of mind.

I was a WP Engine customer for approximately 9 years and was generally satisfied with the service until upgrading to a dedicated environment in 2025. Prior to the upgrade, I was not experiencing significant performance issues on my shared hosting plan.
After the upgrade, I began experiencing ongoing performance issues that affected my website operations. Over several months, I opened multiple support requests and formally escalated my concerns, but the issue was never resolved. The consistent response was that the problem originated with plugins. However, after migrating to another hosting provider, the performance issues disappeared.
The most disappointing aspect of the experience was the handling of billing and cancellation. Prior to renewal, I contacted WP Engine regarding month-to-month billing and cancellation options. After the annual renewal was processed, WP Engine refunded the annual charge and converted the account to monthly billing at $400 per month. However, the company later maintained that I remained obligated under a renewed 12-month contract through February 2027.
I attempted to resolve the matter directly, filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and later filed a complaint with the Texas Attorney General. WP Engine's position remains that I am obligated under the renewed contract despite no longer using the platform after migrating my services elsewhere.
My concern is not that WP Engine was the most expensive option. My concern is that after 9 years as a customer, months of unresolved service issues and inconsistent communication regarding billing and renewal obligations left me with little confidence in the company's support and customer service.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend WP Engine.

My service was ok, but when I cancelled my service after several years of being a loyal customer that always paid my invoices on time, they charged me 3 additional months. This, after sending confirmation emails that my account was closed and that I would not be charged.
At this point they haven't answered my support emails to explain why I was being charged. Nor have I received a refund for the overcharge. Due to this experience, I would not recommend WP Engine.
If I am provided a full refund for the 3 months I was charged erroneously, I will consider changing this review. If it isn't updated, it's because they haven't refunded.
**I have now received an answer from support and a refund is in transit. I will update again once the refund arrives.**

AI customer support chat through the Support Concierge was surprisingly stress-free! Enabled step-by-step instructions, troubleshooting toggling between WP and Webpress, and helped simplify the process for staging and production phases.

LONG TIME CUSTOMER: 10 Years+
As someone who regularly runs client website launches, I expect much more from a premium host like WP Engine.
We spent two full days stuck in live chat with their support team trying to fix a problem they created on our client's site. The site was otherwise ready to go live, but we were completely blocked. After hours of back-and-forth and basically begging for help, I finally asked them point-blank, "What exactly went wrong?"
Their response?
"I am unwilling to provide the exact details as it may contain confidential information."
Unbelievable. They caused the issue, wasted two days of our time, delayed the client launch, and then refused even to tell us what they had broken—no explanation, no ticket details, nothing. We still have zero idea what the actual problem was.
This isn't support — it's straight-up corporate stonewalling. If a managed hosting company can't be transparent about mistakes they made on your own site, they have no business touching professional projects.
WP Engine, this was embarrassing and completely unacceptable. We will never use you again, and any serious business should steer clear.

I'm no coder nor tech worker. Just a Boomer building my Creator biz.
I used two other major WP hosting platforms before switching to WPEngine.
WPE is smoother all around for me. Self-help tools included.
Tech support always prompt, skilled, friendly.
Today I discovered a security issue, rare my my site. So I asked a few starter questions in Chat, The answers at first looked too long and complicated. But patience paid off-- with troubleshooting tips provided, I was able to locate specifics to report. Tech support had me remove two plugins and change my password-- something I should have done before all this-- would have prevented this. (Too busy wearing too many hats)

I have been with WP Engine for over 10 years. They used to be the BEST host ever, but not anymore. Their customer support is no better than anyone else yet they charge a premium price.
Today, I contacted them around 10:45a EST about MalWare on a site hosted with them. Just went in to see what the update was and there was none. It looks like they haven't done ANYTHING all day long. I just ran another scan and the same issues are there that were there this morning.
Do yourself a favor and go with a different host. I'm looking to move all my sites to another host.

Hosting was good and smart plugin manager was great but I had an unexpected bill from an overage. I totally get that an overage costs money and has to be paid for, but to just charge a customer’s card without any communication of said overage is crazy. At least in my eyes.

Can’t speak for what the experience is like when you’re on a dedicated server, but being on a shared plan was absolute hell these past 3 years or so for me.
I was with WP Engine for 8 years, and at first it was fine, some minor issues, no big deal. But ever since around 2023-24, it was a nightmare on multiple levels.
First off, they are extremely strict about resource limitations on a shared plan.
Secondly, WP Engine is very annoying with their team of aggressive salesmen who they refer to as “Account Managers.”
They are persistent in their upselling tactics, and they often utilize fear as the main ploy.
The Account Managers often send you graphics with manipulated data, cherry picked metrics, and other somewhat misleading plot points in their email messages, for the purposes of scaring you into purchasing one of their extremely expensive dedicated hosting options.
Saying no doesn’t stop them either.
The next time they feel you are using too much of their shared server resources, they’ll come back with an email telling you it’s a DDOS attack, or malicious bots, or a bot attack, or some other crisis.
Then they’ll move you into Under Attack Mode, or they’ll place you on a quarantine server.
It’s nerve-wracking and mind-numbing.
Plus their upsells are extremely expensive too.
They had just increased the price of my regular plan, without an upgrade, by 15%.
And yet they were STILL aggressively trying to upgrade me to a dedicated plan, one that would have been 6, 7, even 8x what I was paying!
Honestly, I am genuinely mad at myself for not leaving WP Engine earlier.
I put up with this nonsense for way too long.
In the fall of 2024, they even upgraded me for a trial period, pro bono, to “work on those server resource issues.”
Guess what happened?
They didn’t move me back to my normal plan, once the trial period was over, and hence I got charged for a month at 7x the rate I had been paying. And that created a domino effect of several more problems along the way.
WP Engine’s billing to me in this case was an unauthorized charge, hence I had to report that to my credit card’s bank.
And that created a technical glitch, in which my credit card company was blocking WP Engine from collecting payment. But I didn’t know this because my invoices from WP Engine were still going through as normal, no issues.
Until one day in August 2025 they just took me offline completely, without warning, because they thought they weren’t collecting payment.
It was an issue between their billing and my credit card, but I suffered through the stress and strife of it.
Basically you will find better value for the price that you pay with numerous other and better options.
And without the aggressive, annoying, persistent salespeople. These people are so over the top they make the characters in Glengarry Glen Ross look shy and introverted.

Pleasantly surprised. After taking over a website with ACF PRO, and feeling way behind, my rep (Patroba) was clear, informative, and made me feel heard. I never felt like I was getting canned responses or pushed to an unhelpful article. Very impressed by WP Engine customer service, especially in an age where so many companies only offer unhelpful chatbots.
