Avoid this ‘company’ absolute nightmare
After being involved in a bad accident I spent 2 hours on the phone begging them to arrange recovery service for my car blocking a busy cork city road Friday afternoon eventually they’d take my car to rathmore co Kerry to their recommended repair centre I wanted to go less than 2 miles from accident to a crash repair centre I know is top notch not an unknown repair centre it has genuinely been an ordeal beyond everyone repeatedly asking for my policy number over & over. I’m absolutely dreading dealing with this incompetent company who provided me with zero assistance after being hit by a car that drove head on into my drivers door I was they for 2 hours until I got my car recovered myself they also screen and blocked your number luckily I had my work phone and amazingly it rang instantly. Fortunately I had a dashcam which hopefully spreads up my claim and my next job is to move away from AIG ASAP. The worst company I ever had the nightmare of dealing with like most of the reviews here, they have no clue or integrity whatsoever and zero interest in helping with their customers despite taking their money for insurance and recovery assistance which is an extra cost. There is no other genuine professional service that takes your money and then refuses to honour your policy for 2 hours when I need it most to then only want to take MY car to their recommended repair service!!
I fully intend to take this further as there is nothing they can do to fix it I’m only grateful I was near home as in a very vulnerable situation they would have held me hostage, they do not respect their customers and they expect you to fill an accident claim form before anything else despite just being in an accident feeling sick and just wanting to get home .. I’m still actually wondering why any company would want to treat their customers like absolute rubbish

Terrible. For a standard car insurance quote, with a safe driver (10+ years NCD) and spouse (10+ NCD) and a normal EV, they "couldn't provide a quote because it's outside of their underwriting criteria".
But it's OK, they could issue a cert to say that they wouldn't insure you that would harm your insurance quotes on other insurers who were available and willing to insure you.
Will not recommend AIG to anyone.
Nightmare with AIG
My wife had a crash on the M2 back in November on a morning with severe weather where there was a deluge of rain in a short period of time that created a lot of surface water on the dual carriageway. Her car started aqua planing which resulted in her car spinning across two lanes and slamming into the central barrier. When the Gardai arrived the told her it was a miracle she wasn’t killed or hit another car. While they were tending to her, they were also dealing with a three car collision on the opposite side.
We went to see the car where it was towed to later that evening and the guy there told us that they’d never had so many call-outs in one morning due to the extreme weather.
The trauma of the accident then proved to be nothing in comparison to the trauma we’d experience when putting in a claim with AIG. They clearly don’t understand how complicated life becomes when you lose the use of your car. The claims guys took ages responding back to us and every time they said they’d get back to us by a certain date, we heard nothing. We were constantly chasing them for updates and in between us it was costing us a fortune because we had to rent a car so my wife could get to work. Very early on they said they’d never probably weren’t going to pay out on the claim because the tyres on the wrecked car looked to be under pressure. Anyone who has every driven a Volkswagen ID3 will know that it has low pressure sensors that go off when the tyres are under pressure and when the tyres have been pumped up to correct pressure, you then have to reset the sensors so they start showing a warning. There were no sensors going off before the crash. If the assessor had bothered to sit in the car and turn it on they would have seen this. They also said one tyre was bald and they weren’t paying out. No car on the M2 that morning would have been immune to the conditions and would have aqua planed too. All this dragged out for weeks before we told the garage we’d pay the costs of €10,400 so we could get our car back. The whole process was a nightmare from start to finish but AIG’s part in this made it so much more traumatic. They will pull every trick in the book so they don’t have to pay out on claims. I wish we’d checked on here before going with them for car insurance. If we’d seen the feedback we would have avoided them.
Unfortunately I’m also insured with them so I actually feel completely unprotected if I get into trouble and I certainly won’t be renewing with them in May, my wife will certainly not be using them again and we will make sure that everyone we know will avoid them in the future. They are a total nightmare. If I could zero stars in this review I would have. Be careful as they go under “it’s for ladies” so check who the actual insurer is behind the name.
My mother had an accident a week after this happened and her experience with Zurich couldn’t have been more different to our nightmare with AIG.

I have a car hire excess policy with AIG and have had occasion to make 2 claims over the years. On both occasions they settled my claims both promptly and without fuss.

Been waiting 2 months for my claim
Been waiting 2 months for my claim. Had to file 2 complaints as my emails were not getting responded to. Called about 15 times now and get the same response everytime. Will message the claim handler but she hasn't done anything about it. Avoid at all costs trust me. Basically scam artists at this point. Ill be taking this further also.

Trying to renew my policy and its a dreadful experience no renew option presented. When I finally found it its asking for ridiculous information that is all on the system already. Absolutely ridiculous.
Change address during the year and expect to pay handsomely for the privelige. If you dont have 30/40 minutes to spare when making a change on your account details then definitely dont use AIG
Renewed my car insurance in June after the first year with them and it was mostly good until I moved house and had to change address. They say you can do everything in your account portal but that is not true for address changes. So I then had to suffer the hell of trying to contact AIG by phone and spent some amount of my time in the next few days navigating the press 1 2 or3 time zapping hell to then be in a Q being reminded every minute that you can do everything in your account portal. I did get to number two in the Q twice on day one but it seems someone decided to shorten the Q and knock my call off, back to the start again. I had a few days of this and eventually got to speak to someone who said that they had updated my new address for me, they did not. A week later I was getting concerned that my new cert was not available on the portal, so had to call again for a few days and at this stage I was concerned if I was involved in an accident they would possibly say I had not updated material information and would not pay out based on that. I eventually got to speak to someone who told me I had to pay €140 for the privilege, which is more than 25% of my premium, the only option was to pay there and then over the phone or ring again another day. They would not put a payment link on my account so I could go into the portal and pay there.The only option was to pay over the phone.
I cancelled my insurance with them and took it out elsewhere.
AIG Service Center Failure
I bought Apple Care with theft coverage hoping to get back my phone incase of any accident. My phone has been stolen on 5th of November and I learned that AIG covers it. Till that day I’m trying to
Make a payment of £100 through their payment systems however they keep telling me they will
Fix the issue. No progress has been madr and I have to stay hours on the phone to make a call
With them. I send 3 emails and no feedback to them as well. I don’t have my phone for 2 weeks now and I really don’t know whether anyone will reach out to me for any feedback. Hope someone from AIG can see my message here and help me..
Never use AIG for travel insurance
Travel insurance with baggage damage claim.
I’ve been waiting for a response from the claims team for four weeks. Every time I try to contact them by phone, they ask me to send the claim form—something I’ve already done multiple times. The only reply I ever receive is, “We’re sorry.”
This has been an absolutely useless product with zero customer service.

Had a little accident and was told by the accessor that the car was wrote off as it was costing over 13k to fix ..car was valued at 20k .I disagreed so all of a sudden now they want the garage to fix it costing 14700 plus another 400 for a window screen . The acessor mark has not got a clue how to do his job or even worst maybe he a con artist .
I will be down alot of money when I try sell my car after the repairs , where as they should have stuck with there first decision to write off car.
My car was driving right up till the car garage looked at it which is 3 weeks ago. I have no source of transport as insurance only covered 5 days of a rental car. And it looks like I will have no car for another 5 weeks . This company is a shambles so guys please stay clear . Its now the 4th of November .
Car still not back and still no reply from in customer complaint team. What a joke.

Worst company to deal with.
In 2022, another driver crashed into me, admitted full liability, and it was confirmed to be their fault. Despite this, the company recorded it as my claim. Since then, no other insurer will accept me or they quote sky-high premiums. For three years I’ve been stuck overpaying with them because of their mistake.
They have already admitted that the fault was on their side, but the error is still not corrected. Now my renewal is due again, and I’m once more being forced to pay more than I should.
This company falsified documents, made me liable for something I was not responsible for, and continues to damage my insurance record. Stay away – their negligence will cost you years of stress and unnecessary expense.

It happened over 24 days ago
They gave us a car for 1 week and we had to pay for 2 weeks so far for rental at a cost of 800 euro
I have call the claim handler and so call engineer but no reply

Terrible communication and errors
A total headache to deal with. Initially, they lied twice about not getting the quotes from the garage. In the end, I had to ask the garage to send all documentation to me and I emailed it to them. The agent assigned to my claim made a mistake with the quote and it was way too low. When it was fixed they only offered to pay 80% of the cost because they claimed I had undisclosed penalty points which I believe to be completely false as I distinctly remember adding them. They do not respond to my emails and the phone is a waste of time going around in an elusive loop of call waiting or being on hold for extended periods of time. It looks like I will have to get a solicitor to move forward.
Only €300 for insurance
Only €300 for insurance, I had to make a change of employment and the woman was lovely. I have bounced back and forth between insurers each years but AIG tends to be the actual insurer each time.
Don't use these people for anything
I've been waiting since the 3rd of August for AIG to handle one of their customers claims where I was rear ended at a red light. Terrible treatment of the innocent party. Told an assessor would contact me on the 6th of August. Didn't happen. Second conversation with them the person contradicted everything the first person said. Waited 37 and 28 minutes on hold on two calls. Transferred 4 times to wrong departments. I was on one occasion transferred in to the middle of an on going conversation. I was told at ine point that the owner of the policy was in hospital and that nothing could be done until she got out where in fact she was on holiday in Vietnam. What a load of crap. Disgusting way to treat people. You should be ashamed of yourselves. The most unprofessional shower of wasters. I have already contacted your customer service detailing the event and all the insurance details so please come up with something different that works as a reply.
