Easy, efficient.

The staff were friendly and helpful and the van was as described and in perfect condition.

Motorhome was clean and easy to drive. Only real downer was that the drawer holding the rubbish bin kept flying open and we had to secure it with wedges and bungee cords for the duration of our trip

Overall, our experience hiring with THL / Apollo in Auckland was smooth, seamless, and reliable.

The vehicle setup was fantastic. The provided linen and pillows were exceptional; far better quality and comfort than typical campervan bedding. The kitchen utensils and cookware were fully stocked, clean, and ready to go. Our only small practical frustration inside was that no matches or lighter were provided for the gas stove, which was a bit of an oversight for a self-contained setup.

Their pre-collection instructional videos were brilliant and made familiarising ourselves with the campervan straightforward before picking up the keys. There are plenty of payment, insurance, and convenience add-on packages available. We personally opted for independent third-party excess insurance (which is cheaper, more competitive, with broader coverage) and skipped the prepaid fuel and camping packages, as doing the final diesel top-off yourself offers far better value.

Special mention must go to the 24/7 on-call roadside assistance. We unfortunately got the van bogged on a soft roadside verge during our trip, and the dispatch team handled it brilliantly. We had a recovery vehicle on site and were safely pulled out within 30–45 minutes, with payment processed promptly over the phone without hassle.

The team across the board, including phone support, online booking, and front-desk staff, were super friendly and helpful. A brilliant initiative at the Auckland branch is the communal pantry and fridge, allowing arriving and departing travellers to share leftover pantry staples, condiments, and goods so nothing goes to waste.

Our main constructive critique was the pre-departure vehicle handover. The staff member who walked us around seemed quite new or undertrained. The interior walkthrough was very brief, the grey water valve was left in the open position, and two external storage compartment doors were left improperly latched which flew out as we drove away. Definitely do your own thorough exterior check, double and triple check each compartment, before pulling out of the yard.

Aside from that minor handover hiccup, the booking, vehicle reliability, and support were top-tier. Would happily recommend them for a New Zealand road trip!

The overnight heater and warm water made it a great experience. The billing system was very easy and straightforward with no surprises.

The staff were friendly and welcoming when we arrived to pick up our campervan. We were shown how everything worked and where everything was. A little disappointed that we were given a plastic stool to climb in and out of the campervan because the original foldaway step was not on it for some reason.

We rented a self-contained motorhome and it was great. It drove smoothly and it had everything we needed. Icluding frech bed linens and a blanket. The only thing we would say is that it doesn’t have a heater that you can use if you are not in a campsite and during the winter it is quite cold in New Zeland so we ended up having to go to campsites almost everynight so we could use the portaable heater they lend you. But definitly something to take into consideraation. Another thing is that branch hours are from 8:00 to 16:00 so you don’t have a lot of margin to pick up the van (we picked it up at the Auckland branch in New Zeland). But other than that they were super nice and the motorhome worked perfectly!

Almost everything was very smooth, especially considering that I was travelling as a foreigner. One thing that would be helpful is to have a recommended petrol station near the depot where AdBlue can also be refilled.

Another thing we missed was that the Mercedes model we travelled in does not have factory-fitted armrests on the first two seats.

Overall, it was an outstanding service.

My pickup was near Auckland Airport. Staff were very helpful and accomodating. They made "check in and out" easy.
Veronica was the lady that assisted me. Very pleasent lady and explained everything well. If the info is too much to take in all at once they have an app that also have videos to help explain what to do which can be a godsend to newbies.

Such a comfortable van so spacious and upgraded. Beds were comfortable everything was amazing!

The toilet and shower was just a tad bit too small for adults.

Just did our first motorhome trip for a week, and the motorhome was really modern spacious and had everything needed for our cozy and comfortable stay during the trip.

Staff were really friendly during the pick up and really took the time to answer our questions and a special mention to VERONICA who really helped us during the drop-off time as we were running late and didn’t had the time to change the gas bottle, she didn’t rushed us and solved our query and even after that she asked us about our experience of the trip and made us welcome.
Kudos to the THL Auckland team.

The check in process was excellent, the facilities where you collect and drop of the vehicle were of a very high standard. The staff were lovely, knowledgeable and efficient. The vehicle itself had an issue that was present when we collected it (a blockage that caused issues for drainage of water) we had to have it repaired during the trip which was inconvenient. The noise whilst driving was almost unbearable! The rattling of drawers, cutlery, pots/pans and oven. Sitting in the passenger seats (behind the driver) was so noisy I think it could possibly be rated as unsafe for kids ears!

Pick up/ drop off great and camper was mint but camper had to leaks in back window which kept making bed damp and water pump leaked water through camper when ever it was on but we managed it with towels

The campervan was perfect, fast pick up and drop off, clear info, no hidden costs. This was our first time with a campervan and it's been a great experience.

Great experience. Happy with camper. Staff were fabulous. Glad I took the full insurance as a stone chipped and cracked my windscreen on first day.

From the moment we arrived, the team welcomed us with genuine friendliness and manaakitanga. The handover was clear, relaxed and easy to follow, with step-by-step instructions that gave us the confidence to head off on our first camping journey.
As first-time campers, we naturally had lots of questions, but nothing ever felt like too much trouble. The campervan was comfortable, well-equipped and became our home away from home for the weekend.
Travelling together as a whānau created memories we'll treasure forever. Watching our tamariki enjoy every moment from choosing their beds to exploring Rotorua made this experience even more special.

Freedom to travel where we want! The van was great however the brakes weren't great and by the end of the 5 day trip they sounded terrible. Plus the awning blew open twice while driving on the main road!
