The World needs more such organisations…

The World needs more such organisations which takes up various urgent and vital social/humanitarian issues to the world level.

Avaaz—meaning "voice" in several European, Middle Eastern and Asian languages—launched in 2007 with a simple democratic mission: organize citizens of all nations to close the gap between the world we have and the world most people everywhere want.

Avaaz empowers millions of people from all walks of life to take action on pressing global, regional and national issues, from corruption and poverty to conflict and climate change. Our model of internet organising allows thousands of individual efforts, however small, to be rapidly combined into a powerful collective force.

The Avaaz community campaigns in 15 languages, served by a core team on 6 continents and thousands of volunteers. We take action -- signing petitions, funding media campaigns and direct actions, emailing, calling and lobbying governments, and organizing "offline" protests and events -- to ensure that the views and values of the world's people inform the decisions that affect us all.

The Avaaz Way: How We Work

From technology, new nimbleness and flexibility
Previous international citizens' groups and social movements have had to build a constituency for each separate issue, year by year and country by country, in order to reach a scale that could make a difference.

Today, thanks to new technology and a rising ethic of global interdependence, that constraint no longer applies. Where other global civil society groups are composed of issue-specific networks of national chapters, each with its own staff, budget, and decision-making structure, Avaaz has a single, global team with a mandate to work on any issue of public concern--allowing campaigns of extraordinary nimbleness, flexibility, focus, and scale.

Avaaz's online community can act like a megaphone to call attention to new issues; a lightning rod to channel broad public concern into a specific, targeted campaign; a fire truck to rush an effective response to a sudden, urgent emergency; and a stem cell that grows into whatever form of advocacy or work is best suited to meet an urgent need.

Avaaz's priorities and power come from members
Each year, Avaaz sets overall priorities through all-member polls (See 2016 poll results here), and campaign ideas are polled and tested weekly to 10,000-member random samples—and only initiatives that find a strong response are taken to scale. Campaigns that do reach the full membership are then super-charged by, often, hundreds of thousands of Avaaz members taking part within days or even hours.

An ethic of servant leadership
Avaaz staff write email alerts to the Avaaz community the way that an aide briefs a president or prime minister: we have just a moment to convey the vital information the reader needs in order to decide whether to get involved, and the campaign hinges on that decision..

To make that moment of attention count, it's the job of staff to find ways that a few minutes, multiplied across huge numbers of people, can make a genuine difference on something that matters. Staff work with partners and experts to develop effective, member-driven campaign strategies; summarize them through clear and compelling alerts; and, if the Avaaz membership chooses to proceed, makes sure that the campaign is carried through—delivering petitions and members' messages, arranging member-funded ad campaigns, or whatever else is required.

In other words, Avaaz staff don't set an agenda and try to convince members to go along with it. It's closer to the opposite: staff listen to members and suggest actions they can take in order to affect the broader world. Small wonder, then, that many of our most successful campaigns are suggested first by Avaaz members themselves. And leadership is a critical part of member service: it takes vision and skill to find and communicate a way to build a better world.

We focus on tipping-point moments of crisis and opportunity
In the life of an issue or a cause, a moment sometimes arises when a decision must be made, and a massive, public outcry can suddenly make all the difference. Getting to that point can take years of painstaking work, usually behind the scenes, by dedicated people focusing on nothing else. But when the moment does come, and the sunlight of public attention floods in, the most crucial decisions go one way or another depending on leaders' perceptions of the political consequences of each option. It is in these brief windows of tremendous crisis and opportunity that the Avaaz community often makes its mark.

In any country or on any issue, those moments might come only once or twice a year. But because Avaaz can work in all countries and on all issues, these moments can crop up several times in a week.

Our member-funded model keeps us independent and accountable
Because Avaaz is wholly member-funded, democratic accountability is in our DNA. No corporate sponsor or government backer can insist that Avaaz shift its priorities to suit some external agenda—we simply don't accept funds from governments or corporations. (Read more about why it's worth donating to Avaaz here, and chip in here.)

Instead of fragmenting, we grow—united by values
Movements, coalitions, and organizations often fracture over time into many smaller pieces—or spend more and more of their time trying to hold warring factions together. At Avaaz, we recognize that people of good will often disagree on specifics; instead of straining for consensus, each of us simply decides whether to participate in any particular campaign.

But underlying Avaaz campaigns is a set of values—the conviction that we are all human beings first, and privileged with responsibilities to each other, to future generations, and to the planet. The issues we work on are particular expressions of those commitments. And so, over and over, Avaaz finds the same thing: that people who join the community through a campaign on one issue go on to take action on another issue, and then another. This is a source of great hope: that our dreams rhyme, and that, together, we can build the bridge from the world we have to the world we all want.

Spider sense is tingling

Spider sense is tingling. Something does not feel right. Got an email about making it sound like Russia is acting on behalf of their own self interest as compared to promoting white supremacy in partnership with USA which is a cancerous clone of the UK. We seem to be looking at an effort to confuse activists as to who the true enemy is, Europeans and white people. Not Russians acting on their own.

So many funny reviews...

It's so funny (and depressing) how many people here are calling Avaaz fake and coming up with all sort of crazy conspiracy theories. Just because their actions are not compatible with your nationalist or ideological framework doesn't mean they aren't doing good things. And not only good things, but things most people with empathy and common sense can and will agree with. They are not against particular countries or peoples but they do campaign against unethical practices and corrupt and draconian politics. That is important on every possible level.

I do however agree that they send quite a lot of messages which is sometimes annoying. But that is a small price to pay for trying to make the world a better place.

Follows through on promises

Most of the negative reviews on here are calling Avaaz "fake" because the organization has targeted an organization or political agenda they stand behind. Something doesn't become "fake" because you disagree with one of their campaigns. Avaaz, for better or for worse depending on your point of view, takes political action just as they promise.

Avaaz uses legal tools including lawsuits and lobbying to forward humanitarian causes on a case-by-case basis. By signing their petitions, you sign your name to a particular campaign. By giving them money, you give them free reign to assign it where they choose (less control for you).

When people flame an organizations like this and then say "do your own research", it's good advice, but go beyond easily manipulated review sites like Trustpilot. Start by asking what you want to find out: are you trying to see if you agree with Avaaz' causes? Are you trying to see if their petitions get to the intended audiences? Are you trying to see where they spend their money? Then see how often the news they publish (usually along the lines of "hooray we won xyz lawsuit") actually corresponds with news outlets from the affected region. In my region, they have a good track record and I'm happy to support them.

Fake humanitarian organization - Lobbyist rather than activist

This is one of the fake humanitarian organization which has its own propaganda. It twists the truth around the facts blaming different people and communities to suit their agenda. Also never sign any of the petition as they will bombard you with tons of mails. Its right called as lobbyist in the skin of activism. Such organizations are disgrace to humanity.

Absolutelly FAKE

I've been a supporter of some causes in the past BUT, is everyday more and more evident that this is no charity organization, just look at all the campaigns launched against Russsia from them, they are doing it over and over like the one going right now about the FIFA world cup, trying to make ppl sign for a anti-rússia petition and pushing the western "agenda" as I now see it. AVAZZ is indeed a FAKE Humanitarian Organization.
Don't thrust my word for it and DO YOUR OWN research before you label me as just another conspiracy theory looney, the internet is more than Fakebook(for now).

Like others here

Like others here, I assumed, naively, that Avaaz was a genuine, non-partisan petition site to help make the world a better place, seeing as they sometimes promote genuine human rights abuses in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere, which is one of my interests.

I am not a fan of Donald Trump, but when the major focus of Avaaz became to seek to destroy Trump and put the criminal H.R. Clinton on the throne, I was disgusted. Even after the election, Avaaz refused to accept the result, sidestepping important issues to concentrate on hating Trump and those who voted for him!

I noticed all their other leftist causes, disguised as women's rights, environmentalism and the usual lies to effect social change, to fragment society and kill what's left of our freedom.

George Soros supports Avaaz, which is a good enough reason in itself why you shouldn't.

We need More organizations like Avaaz in the world today

Avaaz has a physical presence in NY, local people around world, runs a lean organization, major fighter against corruption, against climate change, against animal abuse, for the better treatment of refugees, etc. I contribute monthly to them and have had no problems with them. I also contribute to occasional causes beyond my monthly amount. They claim 44 million members, and even if that's miscounted by a factor of 10, that's still a lot of persons who will read and often sign their petitions. I believe we need more Avaaz's in the world; you certainly can't trust government or private industry to benefit the planet and future generations.

The AVAAZ agenda is political, not egalitarian

I signed up with Avaaz naively thinking I was doing some good by signing their petitions. Until I saw a pattern emerging in the kinds of petitions and campaigns Avaaz were running, particularly when they started being overtly political. For example, going after Trump (I'm not a fan of Trump or criminal Clinton but there was something suspect in the assumption that everyone should be petitioning against Trump but not Clinton)

I believe Avaaz has either been overtaken or setup by people with a hidden global political agenda that isn't in everyone's best interests. It's one thing campaigning against policies that harm people, animals or the environment. It's another - as in the case of AVAAZ - to target specific politicians for 'elimination'. Yes, some of the campaigns appear 'good', but you can be easily led into believing that this means all Avaaz campaigns are good. When you analyse the pattern of petitions you can begin to recognise the overall globalist agenda coming through. I no longer trust Avaaz because I think they are using the goodwill of the people to further their own political objectives. But they are not the only petition site who are playing this game.

Either way, I have stopped engaging with them. And I would caution people to scrutinise other similar petition websites before committing time, energy and money to them.

I got an email about going after Trump …

I got an email about going after Trump for firing Comey. I know Comey is highly corrupted hence Hillary Clinton. This right here tells me that this site is corrupted. Plus I know the woman Emma is from an evil family. The guy that wrote the good review after all these PPL said they take your money without asking is paid to give good reviews. Never pay ANY of the Campaigns, petitions r one thing but they are all out to get your money excspecislly those that advertise with heart breaking matters as that's how they get you to do it. Wounded Warriors is another one that doesn't give a penny to the Veterans... We are controlled by an evil secret society that are keeping us poor, no health care, high prices, high taxes n so on. We aren't supposed to be paying taxes from our wages. I'm taking a picture of my comment to make sure this site isn't deceiving as well...

Tak bardzo propaganda.

Są strasznie naiwni: tępią Trumpa, Korwina i innych ludzi którzy myślą logicznie, szerzą propagandę zielonych, manipulują, ogólnie najgorsze co można spotkać w internetach.

Avaaz is a fake organisation

I suddenly started getting spam from this organisation. At first I just erased them but then as they kept coming I opened an email and it said I had become a member after signing a petition. I NEVER SIGNED ANY.
So Avaaz just picks random email addresses and claim they signed petitions. This renders all their petitions worthless since they are not to be trusted. Fraudulent, fake and sheit.
