I had a wellness plan for one of my…
I had a wellness plan for one of my dogs, and lost my wallet so I had to replace all my cards. I took my card into a Banfield at Salmon Creek in Vancouver Washington and they took my new card number and said they would take care of my payment. Then this morning I get a call from a debt collection agency. Needless to say I am pretty pissed off with Banfield, do not get their wellness plan, they do the bait and switch on you.
Cost of neutering dog unfair
I scheduled to have my dog neutered today. I was told that the cost was 530.00. When I dropped my dog off the cost escalated to 697.00: adding cost of cone which they said you cannot take your dog without it, pain medication which pain is expected after surgery, and the charge for an office visit of 80.00. You had to sign another agreement for additional cost of 50-200 for additional bloodwork if needed for anesthesia. So total could be up to 897.00. That is a far cry from 530.00 which was the initial quote. They would not proceed unless I agreed to the additional 50-200.00. So I cancelled the surgery. This company cannot expect pet owners to have bottomless pockets. Unfair.
One of the worst companies ever
One of the worst companies ever. Stay away from their welness plans, those plans are not designed to save you money, they are designed to get your foot at the door. They will upsell you everything.
Banfield failed to apply one of my payments to my account, 4 months later, they unfairly sent put me in collection. I called to confirm that they receiced the payment 3 month earlier, they confirm that and still reported to the credit bureau as collectionm then settled.
Banfield has gone from regular to bad to worse
On 07/29 I requested an appointment online. They had one for 07/30 at 1.30pm. I took it.
The following day I arrive at 1.15pm, sign in, and the employee says that my app was for 2pm that I had to wait. Even though I showed the confirmation email sent by her company, she still said something about availability of Drs or something of the sort. I waited and then told her that I had been the only one there for about 20 min, she did not care. Next, I am ready. Now they want me to drop my dog off even though I had specified online that I wanted to see the Dr and wait for my dog . I did not feel like arguing so I left. 2 hours passed and no one had yet called back. I know the length of time these exams take(comprehensive). So I went to the store. Now I want my dog back no matter what. They bring him out. I then find out that they had not even touched him. He just spent the last 2 hrs in a cage for nothing.
All those signs that say how much they care are just that, a simple sign with no meaning to it.
I have been a customer for around 24 yrs, doesn't count at all. And of course, customer service does not exist.
THEY JUST DON"T CARE, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.

We brought our dog in because he wasn't eating and diarrhea they did all the tests. We got all our results they said over the phone everything is ok, he has "Kidney Disease" kidneys look great, blood, urine ect great. Gave us diarrhea meds. They should have given him something to eat, a food stimulant. If he don't eat he will die.
Called them the next day to give me some entice a food stimulant mind he is our vet for 3 years. That was the very reason we brought him in. No they wanted us to spend more money and bring him in. We needed to make a appt for ultra sound to see if our dog had some blockage. He didn't he was severely dehydrated (how I found out a dr online) and if they wouldn't have not given us a bright and cheery results we could have saved him. The tech/dr told us on speaker "Kidney Disease" not chronic. I was exhausted my 89 year old mother was in critical care prior so I never never noticed he lost 25 lbs until I got back from Arizona (prior to bringing him in) but Nothing was its urgent that you go here, it is vital.
We still brought him back and he was critical while we were not there because we dropped off they should have of tried to put him on a IV. Nope not this place we would have paid. I fed and gave my dog water with a syringe I was up 24/7 desperate after we left the first time with the cheery positive results over the phone. I looked at paperwork it said chronic kidney disease with an example of another dog. It should say my Dogs name and result for people that don't understand because vet-Dr tech said everything was perfect, great. I am dying of guilt for trusting these people
Mind I never call them alone I always have 2 people listening. Because our previous appointment in May. They did a consult and with our other dog and got pricing because I want to know. They added another couple hundred dollars after we already dropped off our fasting baby for surgery to the bill. I asked why she said I needed a consult. We did a consult! Well she said no one has ever complained. Me next time I will just give you a blank check. I like people that are clear no surprises/transparent. I am not rich.
I knew in my heart and gut I should have never come back here. Did not find a vet because of my critical ill mother. I lost my baby boy. It will take a long time to forgive myself. I trusted you. You failed us. If a dog doesn't eat he will die. You risked it because you wanted another appt more money.
My dog child. The pain I feel is the pain I feel when I lost my own child. Except I failed them by coming here!

Down with Auto Renew and the BS Too
From March 2, 2023 to March 2, 2024 I paid for the Optimum Wellness plan for my pet. This was roughly $900 and had hoped that an email or something would be sent to give me a choice to auto renew but nothing was ever sent. Instead I checked myBanfield account and someone just auto renewed the account automatically on March 2, 2024 to March 2, 2025. I did not auto renew and was waiting for some communication.
On June 29, 2024, I was able to turn off auto renew by figuring it out myself and it is in the smallest of print. It is also not in the most obvious of places. No one in the store tells you about auto renewing or that you can turn off auto renew. I used the chat feature for Banfield and was told that I still have to pay $469.21 for the rest of the year and then contact Banfield again after December 19, 2024 and pay $8.11 to finish the contract. Sometime after turning off auto renew, I then receive an email that "We hate to see you go and that I could auto renew my plan at any time." How ironic to receive this email when I turn the feature off, but no email to let me know when it was time to renew.
I have only visited Banfield once this year (2024) and still had to pay out of pocket for medications and more ear drops. A total of about $100 on top of the now 76.85 that I now have to pay monthly. Yes, the plan has also gone up from $75(2023) to $76.85(2024). Again, I just thought to use the plan for just one year as it was advertised as something to save me money on vet visits, but it is actually costing more money than what I can afford. To auto renew an account with no communication is unethical.
At this point, I am looking to cancel as I cannot afford this plan. I should have had some communication before March 2, 2024 to present me with a choice to auto renew.
Horrible company and customer service
Horrible company and customer service. I am trying to modify my plan for one of my dogs and am getting NO where. I can't get a return phone call from anyone at a supervisory level. I have been on the phone 4 times now for hours. Terrible company.

If I could use 0 stars I would. This is a horrible place to take your pet. I initially took her in at the beginning of the year for a hot spot. The medication they gave her initiated an eye infection too, which cleared up on its own. Soon after she developed a horrible ear infection. The vet had her on the same medication for a few months with absolute no results. 3 times I recieved the same medicine. The vet finally said it could be her diet and recommended a very expensive dog food. (I home cook my dogs food with chicken, rice and vegetables. It's fresh and healthy for her. There is nothing wrong with her diet.). I finally went to another vet, they gave her medicine in the ear and it cleared the infection up within a week. I haven't had any issues with her ears since.
Banfield pushes the wellness program insurance to help "save you money" . As part of that program, they include flea and tick treatment which is Semparica Trio. They kept telling me how great it is and how their pets love it. Just a simple treat once a month. That medication is causing my dog to have seizures now. She had another one last night. When I called Banfield this morning to get copies of her records, I mentioned about last night's seizure and they never asked how she was, do I need to schedule an appointment or anything!!! They don't care about your pet!!!
I would not recommend them to anyone that loves their pet.

I have been waiting 3 weeks for them to find out about a particular vet so I can have my puppies cherry eye and to get spayed. They don't return messages you leave on voice-mail. It's a dig deal to them if you rather do office visit than drop your pet off and leave in a crate until they get around to calling when they are done. Yhey either need more staff or it needs to be better run. Once my puppy is a year old I'm going somewhere else.
It was fine, until my dog died
If your animal dies while on their plan, they will not let you cancel your plan. You either get to pay the remainder of the cost or monthly until the end of contract. Had I known this upfront, I would never have signed up. So now, two days after my dog died, I get to deal with this. Just not worth it. This company only cares about money and not being decent human beings when someone's animal passes. Awful company, awful vet services and honestly you don't really save any money doing it this way. I still had to pay hundreds of dollars for the cremation. To be frank, it was fine while we had it, not great, but fine. Had this experience with my dog dying gone differently, I would have probably stayed with them and continue using them but not anymore. Just find someone better than this company.
Corporate Nightmare
I’ve been with Banfield for 12 years with two dogs and previous pets. They used to be great. The last couple years I’ve witnessed their decline in customer service and general concern for me or my pets. They have become a corporate nightmare. My location staff are rude, critical, and inconsistent. They argue, push unhealthy services on my dogs, and charge for every little thing even with the Optimal Pet Plan, which is a joke! After the last two visits with my elderly boys (Cavalier King Charles ) I’ve decided I’m done being treated like dirt and paying ridiculous prices because nothing is a part of “the plan”. My boys are in their last years. It’s hard to leave and I was intending on staying until they cross the rainbow bridge, but they deserve better in their last days. So sad to see what corporate greed has done in this country and here at Banfield.
Don't sign up for the Optimal Wellness…
Don't sign up for the Optimal Wellness plan. When it ends they will schedule an appointment at the end of the coverage and claim nothing is covered that should be included by the terms and charge you for the services you already paid for with the plan. We had dogs on the plan at the same time and they tried to do the same things at the end of each plan.

doctors might be ok one staff member seems to care is senior member ? . The rest are all low bid help. while keep you hold 15 minutes plus then tell you person you are looking for left already. to slow between the ears to be doing that job. What a disappointment they must be to there parents

If you want a corporate experience, use Banfield. They will make sure to eke out every last dime from you. Our 14-year-old cat was examined one week ago and we were told he was terminal. This week he went downhill quickly, stopped eating and drinking. Took him in to be euthanized today and they charged us an office fee even though he was seen one week ago and there were labs and records of his serious illness. We bought meds last week that we no longer need. They were unused. Would they refund our money for those meds? Of course not, but their front desk staff informed me that she would be keeping one of the medicines for her own cat (which she conveniently got free of charge thanks to us).
