Having read other reviews here - I'm delighted to write a 5 star review!
Yesterday morning I emailed the Council telling them about an abundance of leaves that had been left in my street - oddly only outside my house ...
And at just before 9am this morning - 2 smashing guys were here clearing up everything - beautifully! Naturally I went outside to thank them.
Great service Barnet Council - thank you!

It took 25 minutes listening to music just to discuss council tax. They finally answered!

They always fine us, they haven't given my brother a bus yet, they're poor, and they put me on a bus with 10 children, stupid council, they're literally poor!

Council tax - Barnet refuse to apply the School Leavers Disregard which is national law. I wonder how many parents have been overcharged...
Rubbish - Not collected for weeks and there has been access. No explanation available and no stickers left to advise of it is a weight or contamination (not that I can see though) issue.
Housing - Published policies are ignored, staff tell lies and refuse to do their jobs, homelessness duty regulations are ignored. They won't build or buy homes from developers but keep dishing out planning permission for unaffordable properties that remain empty.
You can barely reach anyone of the phones - it is an absolute nonsense of a council.

The Council added so many children on our school bus, now we have 9, Ivan from claremont is very annoying, noisy and hurts patrisha (Our Escort) i'm so glad i got off the school bus because it had 10 children, 10 Children is too much for patrisha and our driver

Issued me a parking fine, they cruelly indicated a parking code which is in Bromley not Barnet. Forcing me to pay a fine and then using a link for payment which is broken.

I get a bulky waste collection and ask for clarity whether they want it left at point A (the gate where the bins are) or point B (outside the doors to the block) both of which are on the boundary line (being in a block of flats),

the person i spoke to was extremely arrogant, condescending and had no intention of helping (this help was literally going on google maps to my address and clarify where they'd like the item left, not exactly moving heaven and earth now is it?), escalated and then cut the phone off because (her words) "you should know where you live and your own address"

and i'm being gouged £42 for the privilege.....

MAKE IT MAKE SENSE

This council disgusts me. As a private tenant reporting serious issues with slumlords, I was ignored and gaslight by incompetent staff at Barnet Council.

My experience with both the Environmental Health and Council Tax departments was extremely poor. Communication was ineffective, I received no help, and my concerns were dismissed by the immoral and unprofessional staff. I would not recommend seeking help from this council if you need support as a private tenant.

Dehumanising, exhausting and financially punishing experience with Barnet Council. Corrupt is too much of a compliment.

My experience with Barnet Council has been absolutely awful. I have found them abusive, cold, robotic, dismissive and deeply dehumanising to deal with.

I am disabled and on disability benefits, yet I have repeatedly been punished by the system. The council tax situation has caused me enormous stress. I paid last year far more than is fair or reasonable for someone in my circumstances, while people with far more money can absorb these costs much more easily. It feels like vulnerable people are squeezed the hardest, then expected to quietly accept it or they’ll be instantly threatened.

I also had a deeply distressing experience involving Adult Social Care. I was already dealing with ongoing harassment from a neighbour, who I had reported in relation to a crime. She then made a malicious referral to Adult Social Care as revenge. She had no evidence, and I believe the referral was used as another way to harass, intimidate and discredit me.

Instead of recognising how harmful that was, Adult Social Care put me through even more stress by phoning me up and threatening me contacting my local healthcare provider and have them threaten me . I had to spend around five hours in total chasing them, emailing and following up just to get myself removed from their service. I should never have had to fight that hard to be left alone after what I believe was a malicious and retaliatory referral.

The experience made me feel exposed, unsafe and violated. I did not feel safeguarded. I felt judged, systematically abused and treated like a problem to get rid of. I have now taken legal action and I am waiting to see what happens, but the fact I had to go that far says everything about how distressing the experience has been.

More recently, I have also been dealing with a waste/bin issue. Someone put multiple bags of waste into my private black bin without my permission, meaning my bin was not collected while others were. I was then left with someone else’s waste in my bin during hot weather, creating a health and sanitation issue. I reported it and contacted the council, but instead of urgent practical help, I was met with robotic responses about investigation timescales and policies.

That is the pattern I have experienced again and again: something happens, I report it, I chase, I explain, I provide evidence, and I am still left dealing with the consequences. The council does not seem to understand how damaging this is when someone is already vulnerable, disabled and under stress.

I should not have to fight this hard for basic services. I should not have to chase for hours to be removed from Adult Social Care after what I believe was a malicious referral. I should not be left with someone else’s rubbish in my bin in the heat. I should not feel financially punished by council tax while living on disability benefits.

In my experience, Barnet Council and Adult Social Care lack urgency, compassion and accountability. They treat people like case numbers rather than human beings. The whole system feels designed to exhaust people until they give up.

Vulnerable and disabled residents deserve dignity, fairness and I want to be left alone. I did not receive that.

Barnet PCN - absolute scum! The pay by phone app was so slow that I had to keep refreshing. I even showed the warden I was trying to pay and yet was still given a parking ticket. When I finally got onto the pay by phone app, I paid for the 3 hours. I then appealed and it was rejected. Surely you either cancel my PCN or reimbursed me for the 3 hours parking. Skimming scumbags!

I wouldnt even give them 1 star we need a minus stars option worst council authority ever useless lying staff incompetant support teams especially for their disabled custom absolute joke

I applied for disabled and single person council tax discount over five times and they don't respond. They are now taking me to court to make a full payment!

Been living in my house since 2016, paid every council, utility bills. 2025 I moved out and rented a flat. My house was empty for a month. Council wanted to charge double council tax. As there system say it been empty since 2016 even though I paid the council tax.
I had to provide evidence I was living there. They say utility bill in 2016 is ok. It was difficult to get the the Information as it been over 10 years.
Council force me to py the bill first. Now they say they dont accept utility and only like medical or bank statement is acceptable.
Already told them bank dont keep records that long.
Going round circles. Council just do t want refund money. Council are like day light robbery.
Have 2 children to feed. This so disgusting to do to hard working families

I called this morning to resolve a problem for duble charge on cuncil tax .39 min on waiting for call to be responded then call is been answered by agent saying that I have to wait to be transferred another agent. Second call waiting 17 minutes waiting time to be responded agent responded and said same I have to wait to connected with another agent.

First report Barnet Council for fraud as if they had access to your brothers benefits and have mishandled his benefits then it's theft.
Secondly report the house manager of his home to the police.
Why don't you ask your brother to sign power over to you so you manage his benefits.
You can inform the DWP that your brother is being scammed by Barnet Council and for them to request a full break down that he wants you to managed his benefits.
You can take this to your local MP as its a normal behaviour of Barnet Council to defraud people.
They attempted to do this with my mum until my mum told them she's able to managed her own finances.

Sadly, I can't give a positive review. I parked my car briefly at Greggs, paying the fee, but didn't realize it was a motorcycle bay. The markings were faded, and the sign was tiny, so there's no excuse for my oversight. Caught the attendant issuing a ticket and tried to explain, but he was indifferent. I wasn't there for more than three minutes, but that's how it's done in London boroughs: a £130 fine for a minor error. The city focuses more on money than on people, and companies like this are detrimental to the community.

Barnet Council’s social services are dangerous and negligent toward children and the wider community. They misuse authority to intimidate vulnerable children and families instead of protecting them.

According to the Ofsted report (2017), children in Barnet were left at “unacceptable significant risk”, with serious failures in safeguarding, delayed interventions, and poor decision-making.
It is now December 2025, and the same problems continue — with devastating consequences.

Since then, there have been multiple child deaths and suicides linked to failures in care, including:
• The suicide of a young girl in care, exposed by a Sky News investigation.
• Reports of three children dying by suicide, and a school-aged girl taking her own life, raising grave concerns about mental health monitoring, safeguarding, and accountability.

Instead of learning lessons and protecting children, the system appears unchanged. Families and children are left fearful, unheard, and unsupported, while serious risks are ignored until it is too late.

This is not just poor service — it is a systemic safeguarding failure that puts lives at risk. Transparency, accountability, and urgent reform are long overdue.

Obviously you don’t give a toss on customer service do you !!!

As I have a brother in care home in Barnet called Ansell Court after having tow strokes as this is government home and as i pointed out to Cath Shaw they CEO its very disappointing that yous won't residents to pay for help as they are on benefits wear do they get this money as I have emailed her office on numerous occasions but it seems her secretary is not bothered about it as well as I am they carer for my brother I have had 37 calls from Barnet Council treating to take my brother to court but tow years ago when they were supposed to be looking after his benefits and mis handle his money but refused to give information on wear his money went as I said this is not USA my grand father didn't go to war for nothing it's like very concerning that Cath Shaw can not get her departments under control and explained this is NHS and a sorry should be sent to my Brother Mr Lambe at Ansell Court
