Bomgaars claims to offer a Military discount but in actuality, that doesn't really exist. They will not honor a veteran's discount when a veteran spouse (who also carries a government issued military ID) makes a purchase there. The employees snap back at the spouse that "the discount only applies when the veteran makes the purchase" and they say that like the spouse is trying to steal something. My veteran husband does not make 99% of our household purchases. Someone should inform Bomgaars management that while a military member serves on multiple deployments, the spouse is home managing kids, home repairs, yard work, finances, career and everything else that needs attention, including purchases. To treat spouses like they have contributed nothing to the veteran's 20 year military career sends a message loud and clear--the spouse is simply extra gear to carry. Thanks for showing me who you are, Bomgaars, as I will adjust my shopping habits (and those of my veteran) so I will feel welcome where I am spending my $$$.

IDIOT WOMAN PUT IN OUR PHONE NUMBER AND THEN HAD TO ADD OUR ADDRESS AND TEN SE COULDN'T FIND TE SOUTH DAKOTA TAX EXEMPT FORM!!!! TERE WAS A LONG LINE BEHINF ME SO I BOUGT ONLY TWO ITEMS INSTEAD OF OUR WHOLE RANCH ORDER!!!! I [PAID TE TAX EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE BEEN IN OPERATION FOR OVER SIX YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT EVER USE THIS BUSINRESS IF YOU OWN ANY TYPE OF RANCH OR FARM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Purchased a chain saw online, sold as new. Received a well used saw. Never had this type of experience from any other online retailer.

I shop at Bomgaars frequently. The customer service is great. Recently I was in store #51 looking for a sweater for a new pup. Austin and Michael went above and beyond to help get the right one. They were kind, attentive, and so helpful. It was a fantastic experience. Highly recommend!

special ordered chick breeds. Got 1 out of the 3 that I ordered. I was assured when I ordered pullets/ hens that this was what I would get. One of the breeds my order was substituted with was all roosters, which I found out once I got home and examined them, which I wasn't allowed todo at the store. An employee was checking out in front of me and she registered a breed of chickens that I had ordered, in the book at check out, that I was told had not come in. This employee was the one I had spoke to and placed my order aka the chicken lady. Totally strange customer service. will buy all of my farm and animal supplies somewhere else with a trusted supplier.

I bought hens from Bomgaars only to get more roosters than hens and lost the majority of the chicks at 8 weeks in 2024. When I complained, someone said that they had the same experience losing all their chicks (30 in all), with no good reason. Then I bought bomgaar's starter feed 2025, which was mostly dust, and the chicks would not consume it. I still shop at our local bomgaar because they give discounts, and they carry a local feed that is proven to be dust free and good. I won't buy bomgaars feed or chickens.

Went to the Ottumwa Iowa store today and picked out a pair of women’s boots that was apparently incorrectly priced. They tried charging me thirty (30) dollars more even though I showed them the price they had them marked at. The manager proceeded to tell me that they weren’t priced correctly because they had just set that isle up but the isle appeared to be fully stocked and no inventory or ladders or anything sitting there to suggest that they were still working on it. Any decent business/company would have apologized for their mistake and gave the customer the item at the price they marked it at. Nope, the manager basically had a “too bad” type of attitude and had no interest in trying to make the customer happy. It may not seem like a big deal or you may think I’m just being a Karen but I am one customer that will not be back and will not recommend their business to the local farmers and believe it or not, word to mouth is way more powerful then companies think! We have SEVERAL other options such as the local Tractor Supply Company (which is cheaper anyway) and not to mention all of the online stores just dying to sell their products!

Lady fallowed me & my family since the moment we walked through the door . I felt intimidated when I asked her if she was fallowing us she stated “just walking to my desk” . Then I went clear to the end of the store with my family after acknowledging it was just a coincidence calmed my partner down moved on and proceeded to shop & sure enough guess who came across me & my family again . Kitty corner of the store . Then had the audacity to make a radical statement . She mocked me and said hey am fallowing you again . I know she knew my partner and I didn’t appreciate her fallowing us in the first place but there she went making a joke out of the situation . she sure went out of her way to stir the pot . Felt harassed & humiliated. Poor service obnoxious lady . So am going out of my way to leave a negative review . Next time you fallow me and then say something smart like that of front of my children . I’ll have to just make a scene I don’t find it cute or pleasant at all . I found it extremely disrespectful & outrageously RUDE .

Simply asked to have a key made. Cashier acted lost and walkied other employees but were to lazy to come up front and make me a key. said there was noone there to do it!!!!! Absolute lazy rude incompetent people!!! Ive never been so pissed off. Worthless! I would not advise wasting your time in that store ever!

I am sending this positive review specifically in reference to Jim at the Bomgaars store in Grimes, Iowa.
We have a DeWALT 20 Volt Lithium String Trimmer that we bought at the Grimes Bomgaars in May of 2023.
I was using the trimmer and messed up the bump Feed Trimmer Line Feed when I tried to lengthen the string.
We tried to use the manual to replace the cutting line and couldn't even understand the instructions and we couldn't get it to work.
At that point my wife took the trimmer and the manual to the Bomgaars store in Grimes, Iowa and Jim volunteered to help get it working correctly again...and he did!!
He didn't need the manual, he got it to work quickly and took the extra time to show my wife how to fix any string problem if it happens again (I am not allowed to use the trimmer anymore).
Jim volunteered to help and was most helpful and there was no cost to us for his professional service!
We wanted thank Jim and Bomgaars his service when we needed it.

They print a weekly ad with a coupon. It came in the mail today. When arriving at the store they didn’t have any of the 3 items. I looked the store over couldn’t find anyone. Went to the from register asked for help. He arrived never said a word and wandered off to look for it.
I looked online. There are plenty in stock to order but not an online special. Searched inventory on stores in 100 mile radius of the flyer. None in stock.
Never an intention of honoring even 1 coupon and poor service to boot.

Very good selection of clothing, tools, and a very knowledgeable and friendly staff.
