A group of us visited The Berkshire Arms, near Reading last night and the experience was superb! It was faultless from start to finish, the staff were attentive and friendly and the food was excellent. One of our party suffers from severe allergies and the staff were so thorough, checking with the kitchen throughout the ordering process with a good two way conversation with the kitchen staff. Our servers were exceptional (two males, James and ?), well done Berkshire Arms.

We went to the Garden House in Edgbaston for Sunday lunch
The staff were very friendly and very accommodating with the added bonus of us being able to bring our dog
The Sunday roast was amazing, hot and very tasty. The deserts were delicious

Just had a carvery !!!! £16 for frozen cooked food !!the only thing that was ok was the Turkey and I don’t think that was fresh!!
Came out warm cauliflower cheese warm could not see any cheese on it!!
Roast pot ! More like frozen aunty Bessie’s mixed veg more like pulp! Veg!! A tablespoon if that!
Will not advise anyone to go there !!
Husband had Burger chips cold!
Don’t say you should have asked them to take back didn’t want a microwave meal as well!!
1/10only because the waitress was nice I did tell her to let the staff know the food was only warm !!

We went to the Running Horse in Bewdley. The staff Liz and Lisa were fantastic and couldn't do enough to help. My mum has mobility problems but we had a super table that was very accessible.
Lovely food and a lovely time.

Never again…I visited the peacock @ forhill (Chef & Brewer/Green King) with two others to celebrate my late wife’s birthday…I ordered mushrooms in garlic sauce for £6.49 it came lukewarm and consisted of one large mushroom (not mushrooms as advertised) on top of a piece of bread with a creamy sauce over.
Looking forward to my 28-day-aged prime sirloin steak which turned out to be gristly and inedible, accompanied with chips which were undercooked and hard. My daughter ordered the Glazed Pork Belly which consisted of Belly fat minus the pork. I mentioned my dissatisfaction to the waitress who’s only response was “I’ll mention it to the chef”

We visited The Ship in Alveston, Nr Bristol, as part of their promotion of the AllTrails App - they were offering a free breakfast. We made a booking online for the three of us at 9am and received the email confirmation. We did our walk and arrived at the pub only to find it was closed. We hung around, knocked several times and asked at the Premier Inn (who told us they did not open until 11am). At 9:15am we gave up waiting and went to a local cafe for our breakfast. Disappointing and cost us £35.

Came to ‘the rose revived’ for a post work drink and some nibbles - unfortunately the sausages were raw which wasn’t the end of the world until Phil (shift manager) was rude about our complaint

A big thank-you to The Griffin, Caversham, for a Christmas lunch for the 'Keep Caversham Tidy' group last weekend. The food and the atmosphere was great, but what made it special for me (first-time organiser) was the unfailingly pleasant and helpful attitude of the staff, through the arrangements, later changes, and the meal itself. One to remember and recommend!

Booked a table at Garden House for my daughter’s 30th birthday. When my husband got there he waited to be seated but no one came. He asked a man whom he assumed worked there, but he just pointed in the direction of where our table was (without showing him to his seat and no apology). Me and my children including the birthday girl, arrived shortly after and again, there was no one at the booking desk so we just walked until we found my husband.
We sat and waited and no one came to take our order so we went to the bar. There were only two waiters and neither of them seemed like they wanted to be there. The older waiter (I think his name is Richard) came over to take our order and all was well. We ordered 3 fish & chips, 2 pork bellies and one beef cheeks. The fish & chips and beef cheeks were fine but the pork belly was abysmal and inedible. We told Richard and even showed him that my knife couldn’t cut the meat. He had the nerve to say it’s supposed to be like that with a smarmy look on his face. What he didn’t know is….we are Garden Hse regulars and every time we go, my daughter always has the pork belly and she has always enjoyed it, so we know what it’s ‘supposed’ to be like. Anyway, Richard said he’ll get them changed but what he brought back was even worse. Clearly the chef (and I use that title loosely) didn’t like the fact we complained and decided to be spiteful and give us slices of bland, white pork with no crackling (again not the pork belly my daughter knows and loves. It didn’t even resemble the description on the menu).
After Richard delivered the two plates of food he disappeared. He didn’t come back once to check if all was okay. It was apparent that all they did in the kitchen was swap the pork because the rest of the food on the plate was now either cold or lukewarm. My daughter and I couldn’t eat the food and we were both upset because it wasn’t what we ordered.
Worst still….he still charged us for the 2 pork bellies even though when he collected the plates he could clearly see we hadn’t eaten the meal.
This is the first time I’ve had to leave such a review for Garden House. My Tripadvisor reviews have always been positive. The two stars given are for the fish and chips. But the fact it was my daughter’s actual 30th birthday and she left her birthday meal hungry and dissatisfied with no apology is unforgivable.
If you want fish and chips….you won’t be disappointed but avoid the pork and don’t rely on the staff caring about you or the quality of the food. Customer satisfaction isn’t something Garden House/Chef & Brewer cares about. I even sent a message ahead of our booking to tell them it was a special occasion and that we also wanted to thank our daughter for all she’s done to support me & my husband during his recent cancer treatment. Shame on you Chef & Brewer.
Chef & Brewer, thanks for spoiling what should have been a special occasion. We couldn’t wait to leave

Went to the Chef and Brewer in Baldock (The George IV) for Sunday lunch yesterday with family members.
Not only did they get the drinks wrong (put ice in all the drinks instead of just two), the roast dinner was very mediocre. My brothers 7 hour slow cooked rib of beef on the bone was tough as old boots and fatty, the trio of roast beef, pork and turkey was ok, but the crackling was like rubber and you couldn’t eat it.
We ordered dessert x3 Bramley apple tart with ice cream and the other 2 with custard and a sticky toffee pudding. They tried to give us x2 Bakewell tarts (we didn’t order). We finally got the correct desserts but the one with ice cream also came with custard. The tart had obviously been microwaved and the pastry was really soft and didn’t looked cooked. The manager came over and I said the tart pastry looks like it’s been microwaved and he said it’s because it’s Vegan pastry and it’s supposed to have that texture. Which is a load of rubbish. I cut into mine and the pastry was not even cooked. It was definitely raw. My sister and I are both cooks and have made pastry dishes for many years. Vegan pastry does not look like that when cooked.
X2 of us didn’t eat it, yet they tried to charge us for it even though we complained before we got the bill. They only took x1 of the pastry desserts off the bill after I said I wasn’t paying for something that clearly was inedible.
The manager shouldn’t lie to the customer and the staff need more training and listen to the customer so customers get what they actually order. Really disappointed.

My friend and I have tried to book an event at this location. Initially all went well and we liked the room and quote that we received to book a conference/meeting room. However when we tried to book the room 2 months later we were quoted considerably more,but having kept paperwork showing the original quote that has been honoured - we think.I say that because every e mail communication that we have sent has been ignored until followed up by another e mail & then sometimes a telephone call. Had it been left to me our business would have been taken elsewhere as we have generated 8 overnight stays at the hotel to include orders of food & a further 5 day visits to include food on 1 of the 2 days involved but my more patient friend wanted to give the benefit of the doubt.
We both met here earlier in the year with a view to arranging a bigger event but on our 1st visit we were asked to leave the bar at 22.15 because we were the only customers left in the bar despite the opening hours being advertised until 2300. I was willing to let that slide rather than making a fuss but now consider it part of our shabby complacent treatment. Are the staff paid until 2300 so are leaving early whilst still on the clock or paid until the time they actually work? We did make some progress with our booking eventually through perseverance although we are now 3 days from our event still with unanswered questions despite having sent 2 new e mails,making 2 telephone calls & leaving a message asking for a return call as a matter of urgency all of which have been ignored,we can only hope that any invoice for our event will be as well as we still don’t know for sure what we are getting.

Useless online hotel booking management system - needed to cancel a booking, went online to do so, but continually met with error messages day after day, Then sent an email to cancel and this was bounced back as email unknown. Eventually got through a stupid AI voice generated rubbish phone answering system and spoke to a real person, hours of wasted time, how pathetic are these clowns. Never again!

It should have been a celebration of a major milestone birthday for a friend but it turned into an edge-of-seat stressful experience. I will not name the restaurant but it is C & B. First off & illegally, the bar tariff was on the wall at least 2m away, behind the bar in small type. When I asked to see a copy, my request was ignored. I found a ‘drinks menu’ on a table, it had only a small selection on offer & no prices against anything. Moving on, our waitress was new & clearly untrained in either product knowledge or serving food. The answer to everything was ‘I will go & ask’ so you can imagine how long it took to place our simple orders. The food arrived commendably quickly. One person had belly pork but it was 90% fat by the look of it. All the food was lukewarm at best & the plates were stonecold. I ask why we were getting food that was either cold or quickly getting there. ‘I will ask’ came out again. Answer, it would damage hands if the plates were hot. I still don’t know if she meant customers’ hands or the waiting staff’s. Either way, I have not heard such tosh in my whole life. Of course I had no desire to ‘make a fuss’ & clearly this is what the management rely upon but at any moment I expected someone else to let rip, hence my anxiety. At no time did any staff offer to fix the cold food problem or just take it all away & start again despite each of us mentioning that we were not happy. I have to wonder at C & B for their position in the marketplace. Do they think they are a (overly expensive) fast-food place or do they have ambitions to be seen as fine dining. Either way, they have failed miserably. For what we had & the service we received, I went away very dissatisfied by the experience & I will never return.

Went to the Yew Tree in Great Horkesley, before we even sat down we were pounced on with what drinks we wanted, we had a baby with us so need to get him sorted before anything else, when the starters arrived my squid was very chewy from being overcooked, the Sunday roast's we ordered were lukewarm at best, my daughter-in-law ordered a Barber's Cheddar & Bacon burger that was a Char Grilled Chicken Burger, when we said to the totally inept waitress of this she apologised and changed my
dinner for a hot one (my son was to hungry to be bothered to change his) 2nd burger came out was a signature burger. Was refunded for the burger and they took deserts of the bill, but spoiled what was supposed to be a nice lunch out with having to keep complaining and waiting so not actually eating together, I didn't want my bill reduced, it's not like I couldn't afford to eat there, what I wanted was a nice family experience which by going to this pub was ruined. Would never go back to this pub or recommend it, very sad as it looks a lovely pub, but as they say looks can be deceiving.

Dog house frilford supposedly a Greene king pub but no Abbott ale, IPA, old speckled hen, original. Had golden hen which was awful, no head , flat and poor taste. Woman who served us took a long hard look at it, think she knew it wasn't right but did nothing. From us all being seated to receiving our so called roast meals took an hour. The portion of beef I had was not pink it was running red, I could not cut it and I even had to remove one piece from my mouth as I couldn't even chew it. What little veg we did receive was abysmal, some watery stringy cabbage and two minute pieces of parsnip that I could barely see. Potatoes were poor quality and not cooked properly (soft and mushy) and both these and the Yorkshire puddings were all dried up.Even the side dish of cauliflower cheese was poor. The amount of gravy was so small they may as well not have bothered. The whole meal was poor quality, poorly cooked and poorly presented.The photo on their advertising showing peas carrots broccoli, we did not receive any of it. Nobody in our party of nine had dessert as they were all fed up waiting and the disgust with their meals, opted to just pay and leave and vowing never to return.

The two of us went for a late (2pm+) lunch here on the waterside in Northampton yesterday (24/09/24). Meals were good, especially the Roast Vegetable Tartlet which was excellent and which we will both have next time - though my scampi was quite satisfactory. The Bramley Apple dessert had soggy pastry (possibly due to being heated in a microwave?) but was tasty, and the Salted Caramel Sundae had too much whipped-cream ‘filler’. The cocktails were rather disappointing for the £8 price - too much ice, not enough gin to taste, the flavour being predominantly apple juice - perhaps should have mentioned it at the time. Both lady servers were attentive, friendly and efficient. All in all tho' a good visit to a pleasant environment.

We went to Barley Mow at Clifton Hampden Abingdon for a diner.
We’ve ordered 4 main courses. 2x Duo of chicken, 1x Signature burger, 1x Vegetable grill.
Chicken dishes were tiny. It seemed as if the chicken breast was sliced in 3 horizontally and you only get 1.5 pieces of it, tiny portion of rice and one tablespoon of M&S bought Kimchi (I buy that Kimchi all the time so I recognise it anywhere). Seriously a joke of a dish for £16.49
Burger was dry and came with 7 small fries!! for £ 16.99
Vegan vegetable grill was no better.
Grilled sage butternut squash steak was a lump of butternut squash from the oven, flat field mushroom was drowning in slimy oil, roasted onion was nowhere to be seen, spiced sweet potatoes looked mashed, charred courgette was oven cooked with no sign of being charred, garden peas and grilled tomato was not grilled. Random tiny pieces of red and yellow peppers were in the dish as well which makes me think that they repurposing some of the other dishes. for £16.49
I was embarrassed in front of my friends. We went there because I had a lovely meal there few years ago. What a shocker this time. I’ll never visit any Barley Mow chain again.
