It's not great but bearable because it's the cheapest option.

Watch your back when using this company - make sure that you photograph the vehicle on collection and return, try to avoid using the fuel card - use as little as possible - since you might not get refunded, etc.

I've used a van 4 times probably over 4 or 5 years. There's always minor accident damage. The one I hired today had a failing battery causing fake error messages. I was getting low tyre inflation while they looked fine. Occasionally failing stop/start is the classic first sign that the battery is failing.

The van is never in the correct space because there's always another vehicle parked there. You have to look for it, might be worth allowing 10 minutes for this instead of paying for using it.

It takes a while for them to look at emails if they do at all. Probably best to ring if it's important.

21 July 2026: Co-wheels: "... if you have an accident that is your fault, there is an excess of £1000* payable on cars and £1250 payable on vans.

*£1250 payable for drivers under 21."

1. Make sure that it's not your fault.
2. Surely Co-Wheels can do better than this? I have very few accidents but it's an awful lot if it does happen ...

Been using co-wheels cars a lot recently, been stuck with no car & it's exactly what it's for. Cars have been good although you still have to search to find them. Increased 2 star rating to 4.

The system works really well, much better than the bigger name brand who also has a car club. I was just thinking yesterday how they have the best customer service people I've ever spoken to, but my call today dropped that down a tiny bit and I feel like the person I spoke to fits in more with the general experience of customer service and not the amazing people at cowheels. I find speaking on the phone really difficult and I never feel comfortable with the corporate conversations people force on us. Normally, the cowheels people absolutely stand out for being really understanding and kind. I have been using this service (and getting things wrong in terms of having money in the right account ready to pay!) for years and normally every call is really supportive and has a quick solution rather than being a bit resentful. Give me a while and I'd push this back up to 5 stars.

For the 5th time their VCR MG cars do not work. Buy your own car and save the hassle

Never had a bad interaction with customer services, always eager and willing to help. Cars are great and readily accessible.

I've been using Co-wheels in Edinburgh for a year now and can't praise the company highly enough. I'm lucky to have a car near me, so obviously that makes it more useful. The cars have been fantastic - great condition and fun to drive. It's easy to book one - and yes, there's times when it's not available, but that has been rare. The best thing though is the outstanding customer service. The phone is answered promptly and the queries dealt with swiftly. I overextended a booking by about 30 minutes by accident and they couldn't have been kinder - and it's very cool how they unlock the car instantly for you! I also had a bit of difficulty uploading my new driving licence and again a phone call dealt with it instantly. We chose to give up our car a year ago and to see how we got on. With Co-wheels it's been utterly painless.

EDIT: Co-Wheels response to my complaint is highly misleading and minimising. They are dismissive and minimizing of all complaints. Avoid.

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE. Dreadful experience with Co Wheels. first hire: Hired a car with a major fault that we had to fix ourselves, delayed our journey massively. after a long back and forth (where their email server stopped working with my email, and they implied it was my fault somehow) offered a pathetically small "goodwill gesture" of £15 credit- not even a refund. useless as ill never use them again. Dismissive attitude to complaints. No serious attempt to resolve the issue. avoid avoid avoid.

Really convenient pickup from Oxenholme Lake District station, app etc worked brilliantly throughout the trip. V good clean car.

Getting my Co Wheels account verified took a very long time, but all good since then

Their customer service is great. They answer very quickly and are patient if I need help in adjusting to a new vehicle.

The app is easy to use and there are lots of cars available nearby. I preferred when they had more fully electric cars. But it’s still much better and easier than owning a vehicle for me.

We were members for around 4 years before getting a car due to expanding family. Generally a great experience - convenient locations, good availability, and the best thing was always really helpful customer service from people and not bots - any issues were resolved quickly and in a friendly way.

Very responsive and friendly customer service. They go the extra mile by swapping vehicle bookings ahead of time for known issues, or by dealing effectively with issues arising from customers not returning cars on time. This evening, my annual licence check was confirmed within two minutes. Thank you!

Excellent car club with great range of vehicles including EVs in convenient location. Best part is the friendly and responsive customer service.

I was unable to load the cowheels app and had to make bookings via search engine. Cowheels support staff have been amazing from the beginning, phoning me real time and emailing me with updates. I am so impressed with the level of human support, as opposed to ai bleurgh. Cowheels has been a revelation and I cannot support them highly enough.

I was without a car for a few months and so used Co Wheels for short-medium round trips (20 - 70 miles) - and one long round trip of about 300 miles. What a brilliant service. It was so good, I toyed with the idea of using it full-time, but in the end got another car. The (hybrid MG) car was always where it was meant to be, it was in great condition, it drove beautifully and the cost was as predicted - no nasty add-ons. The website is excellent (as is the AI help). I took the monthly CDW option at £12:50 which was great - and customer services responded directly on a call to cancel it when I no longer need it - again excellent service. I'm keeping my account on the free plan in case I need it. Thanks Co Wheels.

I’ve used this service a handful of times over the past year and have always had a good experience. The booking system is easy to use, and the pricing is fair and transparent.

What really stands out is their customer service. On one occasion, the car I booked wasn’t where it was supposed to be. I called support, waited only a few minutes, and they quickly provided the correct location. I was very happy with how efficiently it was handled.

Responsive to my report of needing to repaint the road markings. Always answer the phone when needing urgent support. We love co-wheels!

I accidentally signed up for a recurring insurance service that I didn't need. Once I realised their customer support removed it quickly, with no fuss.
Overall, the set-up for co-wheels is quite complicated - don't leave it till the day you need a car - but once you're in it's very straightforward to get a car.

I’ve just signed up with Co-Wheels and my experience has been heartening so far. Left my sunglasses in a car I borrowed and when I realised, two days later, Co-Wheels answered my call v promptly, unlocked the vehicle for me so I could retrieve them. Fellow users are also clearly super nice because the car had been borrowed since and no-one had taken my sunglasses. Worth noting that I switched to Co-Wheels from Enterprise Car Club because every time I hire a car with Enterprise (been a member for about 8 years) they try to sting me for tyre damage… they have done it to my partner too so it’s clearly some hack they think will score them a few extra quid but all it does is piss off loyal customers.

I have never dealt with a nicer company? Like ever! Every single one of these guys are great. They are super polite, knowledgeable, and helpful. I've never called / emailed and not had my query dealt with straight away.

When you use a car club company obviously things can go wrong, eg breakdowns, accidents when you're somewhere remote - its a great reassurance to know that a well managed and competent team is looking after you. Thanks again Co Wheels :)

Really enjoying using Co-wheels. Takes a little while to get used to how it all works but is making a big difference to our family.

Excellent simple way to hire a car. Car was great, almost brand new, and the car I booked was conveniently parked 10 mins away from my location to pickup. Used it for two separate weekend breaks away without any issue. Customer service also always available and excellent to help with any queries.
