I think the poor reviews for this company are a bit unfair. They are up front about what they ask you to do, and they also make it clear that payments and reimbursements are made at the end of the following month. You need to be able to follow instructions carefully and be prepared to wait up to two months to receive payments, other than that its a pretty standard mystery shopping company. It did take me a while to get my head around the mystery shopping instructions, but once I did they graded my report 100% first try. I wouldnt say it is for mystery shopping beginners though. For an overnight stay in a luxury hotel with 3 food venues to review, I estimate it took me about 3 hours to write my reports.

Coyle doesn't pay on time and doesn’t follow its own pay policy consistently. Its pay policy states that payment will be disbursed in the last week of the month following the month in which an evaluation was completed (conducted, reviewed, and approved). However, Coyle has delayed disbursing payment by over a week multiple times in last six months. Coyle has zero tolerance towards contractors missing deadlines and punishes contractors for delayed submission of assignment by even a couple of hours, however, Coyle has zero compunction in violating its own pay policy.

When multiple contractors reached out to Coyle about delays in payment, there is radio silence for several days. The excuse offered after several days was there is a large file of processing payments through PayPal, therefore it may take several days.

Ridiculous company which makes contractors wait up to 59 day for receiving reimbursement and compensations under normal circumstances as per its payment policy; and then makes contractors wait even beyond that in violation of its payment policy.

While I can certainly understand the frustrations of several of the past reviewers , I have worked with Coyle for 2 years and there are most definitely some pros and cons - which I will tie into the reviews below

PROS

You get to eat at some of the best restaurants, with a reasonable budget reimbursement, and they also have very upscale hotels, cruise ships which they assign to more senior evaluators

I have found the staff to be very responsive. Sheralee - their scheduling coordinator is fantastic, and any time i had an issue with the instructions not reconciling with actuality, their operations people are very quick to reply with clear instructions

You are reimbursed 100% for all evaluations that pass their inspection. The reimbursements come at the end of the following month (a November 1 review will get reimbursed at the end of December), if that is an issue, you may want to consider looking at opportunities where there is no cash outlay

CONS :

When I first signed up, and did my initial evluations, they were sent back with very little instruction except to read their sample reviews. It took me over 10 hours to complete each of my first 2 reviews, but eventually, after downloading each of the client objectives, it gave much more detail, making future reviews still cumbersome, but far clearer to understand

They have many editors, and each has their own style. An evaluation that might receive a perfect score from one editor, might receive a 60 or 70 from another, which can be very frustrating. Coyle definitely has specific things they want in each review, i find that taking notes on my phone during the assignment is very helpful , especially since I know what they are looking for

Finally, to the one reviewer who said they received something in the mail asking them to lay out their own money in order to be considered, I can state with 100% certainty, that was not from Coyle. They have been around for almost 25 years, and would never survive if they were scamming people. There are definitely "scam secret shopping companies " around, and if you are ever approached about laying out your own money to buy gift cards, etc and send them screenshots, you need to run away immediately. Coyle does make you lay out your money to go to restaurants, hotels, etc, and is very clear that if the review is accepted (they SHOULD work with you to make sure it gets accepted), you will definitely get reimbursed

While I would love to give them 5 stars, the evaluations can be pretty time consuming and you are not getting paid a significant fee for your work, but the budget reimbursement far offsets that. If you are new to the site, I recommend taking assignments with no cash outlay and getting used to the " Coyle Way" and then taking more advanced jobs when you are comfortable

I recently completed an evaluation for Coyle Hospitality. While I eventually received reimbursement after escalating the matter, the experience raised concerns about the company's communication and fairness toward its contractors.

The written instructions were inconsistent, leading to confusion about which location to assess. The job was initially cancelled with no reimbursement offered, despite my detailed and professional submission.

I hold a postgraduate degree and extensive professional experience, yet still found the documentation difficult to follow. This suggests a systemic clarity issue. Other reviews online reflect similar frustrations.

For client organisations seeking reliable service audit data, this lack of clarity can undermine the accuracy and consistency of results. I hope Coyle reviews its instructions and communication processes so that both clients and evaluators can have confidence in the outcomes.

With my extensive experience with several companies in the hospitality and secret shopper industry, there is no doubt, Coyle Hospitality is the lowest in the game! Zero for communication!

Just needed to INFORM all the readers out there read your reviews and don't act on desperation
Now these Bottom freeders sent me a 2 day US postal service envelope very official so upon opening it I was shocked after reading over the material, what it was about it was about becoming a secret shopper and it gave me instructions about what to do here's for the red flags came in anytime a person or a company wants you to deposit a large check into your account thinking that a bank would ever immediately cash a check over $2,000 well the check , was actually $2,488 and as bad as I need money I was thinking and I said to myself hold on let me do some research the first Red light came is when you have to deposit something and then you have to go buy something and supply the information to the people that sent you the check that's always a scam, after researching , reading reviews I came to a decision that this was a big scam ,they even have a company in it looks like some people had success but not enough for me to believe in it, I ripped that material up and rip that check up immediately and I hope that they read these headlines of this review to know that this is one food they didn't get and so don't send that crap to my phone or my mailbox ever again the better Business bureau don't have you as being rated but the government that handles fraudulent activities fake surveys you're on that so people be careful don't don't fall into these people or any people that's supplying you a check of that magnitude and asking you to buy this out of it and send them this and send them that crap and plus I didn't even sign up for this mess

Wanted to be a mystery shopper for a cabin hotel. I applied on their site and they instead sent me another message to apply to the same job. I emailed back saying I already applied and it won't let me apply twice but it doesn't show my application as active. I never got a response and the cabin is now booked. Crappy communication skills on their end. Would think twice about working with them.

This is a great website which is working for mystery shopping. I have worked with them and they are really great. Never had a problem with payment. Sometimes they need to follow up data to complete.
