Truly a unique experience you won't regret

I really appreciated the opportunity to step into something quite different from my usual pace, and to experience the environment you’ve created. There’s a genuine sense of intention behind Datu, and it’s clear how much thought has gone into bringing together the right people, practices and space. I especially valued the chance to learn from your Gurus and to spend time simply being, which isn’t something we often give ourselves.

I loved everything about my stay!

I loved everything about my stay and if I can I will certainly join another time as well! My favourite aspect was the Yoga asana in the morning; right after the wonderful lunches! But overall I enjoyed the yoga and Ayurveda knowledge sharing especially during the evening Satsangs. Of the many caring team members Suyash was outstanding for me, due to his knowledge sharing and his kindness and dedication to the yoga. Dr. Uniyal gave me 3 TCM practices for my health, that felt really good. Asia is an outstanding Ayurvedic chef. Hashim was very helpful, and I can go on like this for the rest of the team....

No ego, no problem: paradise.

Das Leben habe keine Bedeutung, sagte er, you are the meaning of life. Er erinnerte daran, immer gelassen und ruhig zu bleiben: “Before any choice be calm.” Und ich war sicher, seine Worte nie mehr zu vergessen. Ach ja, und schlafen sei die beste Medizin, um happy und healthy zu sein: “Don‘t forget to sleep.” Das muss man mir nicht zweimal sagen. Licht aus um 21 Uhr. Draußen hörte ich Kinder lachen, es war Ostern, ich in Italien, mein Hirn im Nicht-Stören-Modus und ich die beseelteste Frau unter der Sonne. Danke dafür, Datu, it was my utmost pleasure to stay in your paradise.

Authentic, thoughtful, and deeply restorative

My stay at DATU Wellness was one of a kind. From the moment I arrived, I felt calm and taken care of. The setting is beautiful, Palazzo Belmonte and its beautiful garden is perfect for slowing down and reconnecting! Lunch on a palm terrace, sunset at the pool- no need to leave this gem for the nearby village.
The Ayurveda treatments were highly professional and tailored to my needs, and the team is warm, attentive, and knowledgeable. Its the people that make the place! I also loved the yoga sessions, i still practise the morning routine and the fire ceremony was a truly special experience.
The food deserves a special mention: it was excellent, nourishing, and full of flavor. While the portions may seem small to some, my body adjusted quickly, and I felt very well supported throughout.
What touched me most were the loving little details like a hot water bottle in the evening or a thermos of golden milk which created a deep sense of comfort and care.
I left feeling both physically refreshed and mentally grounded. If you’re looking for a place to truly reset and experience authentic Ayurveda in a peaceful, high-quality environment, I can wholeheartedly recommend DATU Wellness.

A spiritual body-mind-soul pathway to greater awareness and inner achievements

My favourite aspect of the retreat was to improve my own discipline through spiritual and body enhanced work. Of the excellent team a few members stood out in particular: Reetu really understood my needs in 1:1 pranayama sessions - A*! Suyash's yogi teaching was excellent by all means: instigating at taste for effortless discipline together with experiential philosophy of body-mind-soul wellbeing, and Tulku Lobsang Rimpoche’s presence was an unexpected incredible serendipitous add on – my very first powerful experience of the Dzogchen meditation! All in all, meaningful breakthroughs a day at a time. I recommend Datu's retreats to anyone in quest of deep awakening and thriving awareness.

Deeply Nourishing on Every Level

I had the chance to experience the Datu Wellbeing Retreat in Tuscany – and it truly exceeded all expectations. From the moment I arrived, I felt a deep sense of calm and being genuinely cared for. The setting is breathtaking, surrounded by rolling hills and a quiet, grounding atmosphere that instantly helps you slow down.
What makes this place so special is the combination of thoughtful details and an incredibly warm, attentive team. Every moment feels intentional – from the beautifully prepared, nourishing food to the personalized treatments and the well-balanced program of yoga, meditation, and healing practices.

I especially loved the simplicity and depth of the concept: no pressure, no distractions – just space to reconnect with yourself. It’s a rare place that manages to feel both luxurious and deeply authentic at the same time.
I left feeling lighter, clearer, and truly recharged. If you’re looking for a retreat that goes beyond the surface and creates a meaningful, lasting impact – this is it.
Highly recommended – I will definitely return.

I experienced my retreat as very ambivalent

I experienced my retreat as very ambivalent.
This was the case from several perspectives. Therefore, I would like to warn others who expect an Ayurvedic stay from this retreat: this is not what you will experience!
The treatments:
The specialists for the treatments, yoga, and meditation were excellent! There is absolutely nothing to complain about here.
The location:
A beautiful place and a very lovely environment to relax and let go. The Amalfi Coast is simply stunning, and the hotel is a gem. It’s best to just go there for a holiday to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings, without engaging in the so-called Ayurvedic retreat.
Food and hospitality:
The retreat description on the website stated that the diet would be individualized. This was not the case. All guests received the same food—and all received too little. When we repeatedly asked for more food—we were hungry!—management told us that fasting is healthy. I had explicitly not booked a stay for weight loss, and this was not mentioned anywhere on the website or in the materials.
When I went out to eat in the village due to hunger, I found an anonymous letter in my room the next day forbidding me from eating outside. This very strange behavior was apparently not enough, as I was also approached by a so-called coach and reminded of the rules—which had never been communicated beforehand! I felt monitored, controlled, and reprimanded. I expressed this openly and pointed out that I did not feel well treated as a guest or customer. However, the control, harassment, and accusations continued. This extremely strange approach does NOT correspond to Ayurvedic philosophy.
At this price, cutting back on food, letting all guests who did not book the expensive stay for weight loss go hungry, and then disciplining them anonymously and repeatedly is unacceptable. The management lacks empathy and hospitality; instead, control and unsolicited, inappropriate lecturing take center stage.
I have previously attended Ayurvedic retreats. I have never experienced anything like this. There was always enough healthy food and no harassment of guests.
Medicine:
Here, too, I was very disturbed. At my previous Ayurvedic retreats, the medicine was beneficial and individually tailored. Here, I—and other guests as well—felt very unwell after taking it. When I recognized the connection between the so-called medicine and my discomfort, I stopped taking it. I immediately felt better. I had clearly communicated my pre-existing condition in writing and verbally before and during the retreat. This approach is irresponsible and dangerous!
Financial aspects:
I had a strong impression that management was focused on profit and gain. Overall, it left a sense of very questionable practices. On one hand, they cut costs on food; on the other hand, several guests, myself included, were charged bank transfer fees.
All additional services had to be paid in cash, even though there was an option to pay by card. I also felt very uncomfortable that staff were not allowed to accept tips. Instead, management collected all tips. I don’t know what happened to them or whether the people whose service I especially appreciated actually received anything.
Once I had paid for additional services, the service itself seemed to end. Despite informing them in advance about collecting our luggage, we had to follow up through the hotel reception to leave on time, as management simply stopped responding. Some guests were not given change for their cash payments and had to chase after it before departure. This is absolutely unprofessional and highly questionable.
Overall:
Despite the excellent massages, yoga, very friendly staff, and beautiful location by the beach, I am left with the feeling that my trust as a guest was abused. Therefore, I will certainly not book another stay with this organization and would strongly advise anyone against it who is expecting an Ayurvedic retreat experience.

Resposta da Datu Wellness

Dear Olga,
Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective.

We are sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations, particularly as you highlight the quality of the practitioners, treatments and setting which are crucial to the healing experience.

As is clearly communicated across our website and pre-arrival materials, Datu is not a conventional wellness holiday or leisure spa experience. It is a structured, therapeutic programme designed to support a return to balance through consistency, discipline and the temporary removal of external stimulants such as caffeine, alcohol and sugar.

The programme is designed as an integrated system in which nutrition, treatments and daily rhythm work together. Meals are intentionally sattvic, nutritionally complete and organic supporting digestion and detoxification rather than indulgence.

Diet is scientifically proven to be a fundamental pillar of health, influencing metabolism, gut function and overall wellbeing — a principle long established across both traditional systems such as Ayurveda and modern nutritional science. The programme is designed around therapeutic effectiveness, not volume or indulgence yet guests are always welcome to request additional servings when hungry.

All this is in fact what you told us you were looking for in our pre-arrival communication to support your recovery.

Remaining within the retreat environment and following the programme guidelines, especially on the intake of alcohol, caffeine, processed foods and sugar is a core part of this approach. These principles are detailed on our website, they are outlined prior to arrival and formally discussed during the initial consultation where all guests sign a form confirming their understanding and agreement that the programme and Ayurvedic guidance provided are to be followed, and that deviation likely affects outcome as has happened due to your choices to consume substances and meals we advise against.

With regard to medical considerations, guest safety is of the utmost importance. Our approach is strictly complementary and we consistently advise that any prescribed medication and existing conditions are managed in consultation with each guest’s primary medical professionals.

With regard to operational matters, staff are welcome to receive tips and always do so thanks to the excellent service provided. In addition, we offer the option to contribute to a shared gratuity pool, which is distributed across the full team to reflect the collective nature of the work. Payment methods and related processes are communicated in advance; we do not accept credit cards and standard banking practice applies to international transfers, where any associated fees are borne by the sender to ensure the correct amount is received.

Datu has been experienced and reviewed very positively by a wide range of guests, as well as by international publications such as Financial Times, Vogue and National Geographic and we recommend readers to refer to these to shape their own impression of Datu in addition to the reviews by you and your friend.

At the same time, we recognise that this type of programme is not suited to everyone as the experience of you and your friend show who came for your medical conditions but then chose not to adjust your lifestyle choices towards detoxification and we accept that.

We remain committed to holding our work with clarity, care and integrity for the benefit of those committed to improving their wellbeing and we wish you well in finding the approach that best supports yours.

Warmly
Your Datu Team

Not good value, be extra careful if you have health issues

The retreat at Datu in Palazzo Belmonte had a number of wonderful things: the location, the skilled and helpful Asian staff performing the treatments, the beautiful palazzo, morning yoga and a 2-day visit by a Tibetan teacher. However, there are a number of quite serious concerns that prompt me to warn people who are interested in this retreat.

1. First of all take into account that guests are not supposed to leave the premises to enjoy the beautiful surroundings, because apparently they are afraid that it creates too many distractions (coffee, food). We are not informed about this beforehand, contrary to what is stated below. Despite the high price you pay, you get just small amounts of food, especially for breakfast (porridge) and dinner (a plate of vegetable soup). Therefore some of us went out the first evening as we were very hungry to get some food, only to find a letter in our rooms the next morning with a reprimande indicating that we are supposed to follow their rules. The manager Constantin considered that this letter was not enough and send a so-called wellness coach to each of us to convince us to do what we were told. It completely interfered with the whole retreat experience and made us feel unwelcome and scrutinized. Constantin Bjerke appears to have a severe lack of empathy and does not like it when questions are asked.
2. The Ayurvedic doctor did not seem to have read my medical information and prescribed Ayurvedic medication that counteracted with the medication that was prescribed to me by the hospital for my autoimmune disease. When confronted with this, she indicated that my specialist was wrong about telling me to discontinue my Ayurvedic medication because she knew better.
3. All additional treatments, transfers etc and also tips need to be paid in cash directly to the manager, even though there is the necessary equipment to pay by card, which I consider strange.
4. I would have liked to get some of the information on Ayurvedic lifestyle and recipes on paper, but that was not possible.

As indicated above, the location and the treatments are wonderful but the management of Datu wellness spoiled the retreat experience for a number of the guests due to their lack of empathy and hospitality. Lunch is nice but you do not get enough food morning and evening, especially considering the price you pay. And Ayurvedic medicine can and did have severe side effects, which were played down when mentioned. All in all I would not recommend this retreat, but I would advise to go to the Palazzo Belmonte outside of the retreat period instead for a regular vacation.

Resposta da Datu Wellness

We note you have updated your above comments following our reply and refer to the clarifications already provided in our original response below:

Dear Usha,
Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective.

We are sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations, particularly as you highlight elements of the retreat you did value — the setting, the practitioners and the treatments themselves which are crucial to the healing experience.

As is clearly communicated across our website, pre-arrival materials and widely reflected in independent reviews and international media coverage available via Google, Datu is not a leisure spa or conventional wellness holiday. It is a structured, therapeutic programme grounded in Eastern healing traditions, designed to support a return to balance through consistency, discipline and the temporary removal of external stimulants such as caffeine, alcohol and sugar.

These principles are detailed on our website, they are outlined prior to arrival and formally discussed during the initial consultation where all guests sign a form confirming their understanding and agreement that the programme and Ayurvedic guidance provided are to be followed, and that deviation likely affects outcomes.

The retreat environment — including remaining on site and refraining from external food and stimulants — is a core part of this design. This structure is in place not only to support individual outcomes but also to protect the collective environment of the retreat. Where it is not observed, it disrupts the experience for other guests. In such cases, our team addresses this first through written guidance and, where necessary, through personal conversation to safeguard the integrity of the programme for other participants.

Our nutritional approach reflects these principles. The programme is designed around therapeutic effectiveness, not volume or indulgence and guests are always welcome to request additional servings.

Programmes of this nature require active participation. Where that alignment is not present, it becomes difficult to obtain the intended benefits of the programme.

With regard to information sharing, guidance on Ayurvedic lifestyle and practices is provided throughout the retreat and, as standard, followed up with additional materials after our season concludes so guests can continue integrating what they have learned.

Datu has been experienced and reviewed very positively by a wide range of guests as well as by international publications such as the Financial Times, Vogue, National Geographic and House&Garden. At the same time, we recognise that it is not suited to everyone.

We remain committed to holding our work with clarity, care and integrity, and we wish you well in finding the approach that best suits your wellbeing choices.
Warmly
Constantin and the Datu Team

Truly Exceptional from Start to Finish

I recently attended the DATU Retreat and it was an exceptional experience. The setting itself is serene, but it’s the team who make it genuinely remarkable: they’re attentive, knowledgeable, and consistently go the extra mile to create a space that feels both grounding and nurturing.

Every element of the weekend had intention behind it. The programme was rich with meaningful Ayurvedic practices, many of which were new to me, and I loved how much I learnt along the way. The treatments were deeply restorative, and the food was a highlight - beautifully prepared, flavourful, and aligned with the Ayurvedic approach in a way that felt both nourishing and indulgent.

Even the finer details were considered, from the soft retreat clothing to the little touches that made the whole experience feel truly special.

I left feeling refreshed, centred, and genuinely grateful for the experience.

I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking a restorative and immersive wellness getaway.

Exceptional experience at DATU Ayurveda Pop Up…

I attended the DATU Ayurveda Pop Up Retreat last weekend and was genuinely moved by the warmth and wisdom I experienced there. The entire retreat was beautifully designed - from the thoughtful schedule full of ancient and authentic rituals to the nourishing Ayurvedic meals made with local produce, to the retreat wear and small, thoughtful gifts and tools that help integrate the practices afterwards at home.

What truly sets DATU apart is the depth of its practitioners. Most of whom had travelled from India, bringing decades of experience and a level of presence and integrity that is rare to find in Europe. The consultations, treatments and classes were real, grounded healing work.

The atmosphere was calm, generous and deeply supportive. I left feeling clearer, lighter, more connected and incredibly grateful.

For anyone seeking authentic Ayurveda and meaningful transformation in Europe, DATU is exceptional.

Extraordinary retreat

Every now and then, I need to “step away” to reset my mind and give my body a proper detox. Well, Datu took that impulse to an entirely new level. I’ve just returned from a truly dreamlike retreat.
Picture a cinematic landscape, a setting crafted with absolute precision so that you feel as comfortable and held as possible. Much of the team flies in from India, and I’ll admit I was moved to tears hearing, for the very first time, the mantras I so often chant in their most natural form. We all wear the same clothing, not only to free us from yet another decision, but also to dissolve judgement and comparison. The meals are prepared with local, seasonal ingredients, and each dish feels deliberately connected to the place and the moment. The treatments were designed to reconnect us with ourselves, our bodies, and our minds (and I must say, I absolutely love an abhyanga massage).
I could spend hours describing how extraordinary this retreat was, but I believe it all comes down to this: a team overflowing with love and a genuine desire to care for every single one of us who was there.
I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity to experience such a special place, to meet this incredible team, and to share the journey with companions who have already become dear friends. I’m already working on my schedule so I can join the spring edition on the Amalfi Coast!

A truly transformative experience.
As a chef and wellness professional, I’ve attended many retreats — but DATU is something truly special. A place of true healing - and heartfelt connection

From April 9 to 16, 2025, I had the privilege of experiencing a profoundly moving and transformative time at Datu Wellness.
Nestled in the quiet beauty of the Tuscan countryside and supported by an extraordinarily warm and knowledgeable team, I encountered Ayurveda in an authenticity I had only known from India – and perhaps not even there in this way.

The journey began with a personal consultation with a highly skilled Ayurvedic doctor. Based on this, my entire stay was individually tailored to my health concerns and personal goals.
Healing treatments, meaningful conversations, inspiring talks, meditation, pranayama, gentle asanas, and chanting were all woven into a lovingly structured daily rhythm – offering both clarity and space for reflection.

The doctors and therapists – from India and around the world – were not only deeply knowledgeable, but also genuinely kind, present, and supportive. The atmosphere, among hosts and guests alike, felt like a mindful, open-hearted community.

The food? Simply outstanding – seasonal, local, nurturing, and prepared with deep care.

Most of all, I’m grateful for an unexpected personal transformation: after over 35 years, I was able to let go of a deep-seated addiction.
This journey changed not only my perspective on Ayurveda but also on my life, my health, and my happiness.

My heartfelt thanks to Constantin and the wonderful Datu team.
If you are seeking authentic Ayurveda in the heart of Europe – and a journey back to yourself – Datu is the place to be.

Namaste 😘

Educational and relaxing

This was a great introduction to an Ayurveda lifestyle, and to date since my return to the USA, I have been inspired to learn more about it and to continue applying it to my daily doings. Morning yoga was the best, and fully enjoyed the personalized treatments. Planning to go back in the fall for a reset.
Thank you for a great experience.

Datu Wellness: Essential Ayurveda in Europe

I like the fact Datu is in Europe and yet so authentic to India - it is less travel and still feels like you're receiving treatments just like in India.
The whole team is superb, each person brings a different skill and embracement. The therapists are the most caring, I had not come across Chi Nei Tsang and that was exceptional. Having a psychologist was so valuable as quiet, rest and bodywork can open up so much for many and having a skilled person is important. Everyone made us feel so welcomed and cared for, they were always smiling and talkative which makes a huge difference to feeling part of a community.
Everything is balanced, the food, the sessions and the treatments were exceptional. The small tokens of kindness and personal touches - made you feel that there was individualised care and attention, a sincere effort to make us at home. The notes of inspiration were very sweet at the table and at my bedside-gentle reminders to be gentle on ourselves.
One of my favourite experiences was the banana leaf thali! There were many things that were great to be honest but that was especially sacred (and universally devoured). I would go back in a heartbeat.
