Beautiful cake but bitter sponge - this is a honest review.
I ordered this cake for my birthday after reading the consistent 5 star reviews on the website. The cake is beautiful to look at. The swiss meringue frosting was the best I've tasted on a rainbow cake.
HOWEVER, the sponge cake itself was very bitter - especially the purple and blue layers.
Even though the frosting was nice, the cake left a bitter taste in the mouth after eating. The cake was also leaning and wasn't able to stay standing after it was cut in half.
I was very disappointed that something that looked so good, tasted so bitter and fell apart at the end.
I have reached out to the owners but have not had a response to my email yet. I posted a similar review on Flavourtown Bakery website and it was taken down.
Dry, sickly sweet, leaning/tumbling
Dear Flavourtown,
For many many years, you have been our favourite bakery for birthday cakes and cupcakes. We told all our friends about how amazing you cakes are, and they were - the cream cheese frosting has the right amount of zing ... the cake is moist, soft and pillowy ... and just the right amount of sweetness ... which does not make one feel sickly, even after a huge serving.
Sadly, our most recent order sealed the death of Flavourtown in our family. You have lost your guiding star ... your cake is now even worse than Hummingbird ... the sides were SO dry ... you have replaced some of the cream cheese frosting with sickly sweet icing ... there's hardly any cheese in the Bad Ass - the cake itself was leaning when we received it, after cutting it into half, one half was tumbling down ... to say this is a HUGE disappointment, is an understatement. How did you fall so low from such high? We have been your loyal cheerleader and supporter for many many years ... it breaks out heart that we have lost our fav cake shop. We now need to be on the hunt for the next 'Flavourtown'.

Damaged wedding cake, appalling customer service
Ordered a double tiered red velvet cake for my wedding which arrived damaged, having slid off the base and smashed into the side of the box.
Contacted FT, was told it was the courier's fault and they were waiting for compensation from them before they could refund me. It's been over 6 months now and they've stopped responding to my messages.
Very sad about this. I don't like leaving negative reviews, but this was a £200 order for a one off event, and the customer service has been appalling. I would like to warn others off of trusting FT for important deliveries.
Lied about delivery and wanted to charge more!
Ordered a birthday cake for my son to be picked up from Fulham store. When store closed without notice, they failed to notify me and the wanted me to pick cake up from miles away. Alternative was to pay for overpriced delivery and then they gave no option but to cancel el order 2 days before my son’s birthday.
DON’T be fooled by these clowns and order your cakes elsewhere. They will lie to suit them and let you down.

Awful company. My product arrived in a shoddy low budget cake box with a giant delivery label covering half of the top. It wasn’t fit for purpose as a gift that could be presented

We ordered Halloween cupcakes and they were absolutely delicious, with great variety. Also got gluten free vegan ones for a guest and those also were superb. I got a lot of compliments from party guests about the cupcakes, so passing them on.
No refund. No accountability. No response.
A cake ordered for my daughter’s birthday never arrived — and weeks later, there is still no refund and no meaningful communication from Flavourtown. Every message I received simply shifted the blame to a delivery partner, as if the company has no responsibility once payment is taken.
If Flavourtown chooses to rely on third-party couriers, customers deserve to know that before paying. Otherwise, it’s misleading to promote “premium service” while hiding behind logistics excuses when things go wrong.
What’s even worse is the complete absence of any sense of urgency or accountability. Not a single proactive update, no offer of compensation, and no sign that customer satisfaction matters at all. What should have been a simple resolution has become a complete failure of basic customer service.
Trust is not built on branding or hashtags; it’s built on integrity and action. Right now, Flavourtown shows neither.

Would love to give no stars because I am that upset. Having purchased cakes and cupcakes from Flavourtown via online and in person in their Richmond store (now closed) I was surprised when I received an ugly cake that did not match the description and looked very different from the photos. I purchased two cakes, one was not as bad, but was lopsided, had bubbles and cracks, but it wasn’t as bad as the Galaxy cake which was expensive and ugly.
Customer service was abominable. Was given flimsy excuses as to the differences and gaslighted with the comment “ I know this is a lot of detail, but I just wanted to provide some clarity around the points you raised.” The details were that they can’t guarantee that the sprinkles that they specifically state in the description would be available (by the way I could count the number of substitute sprinkles) and that colours can vary because they are hand coloured and can naturally deepen over time.
Was offered no competition and after an email chain was offered 10% off my next order as a “gesture of goodwill.”
Atrocious customer service.
Spent way too much money and too much time trying to get an apology.

Awful - do not use
Awful. And not the first time. The cakes are “ sweaty” and icing / photos slide off. I’ve had numerous cakes from the Fulham branch and the last one also collapsed within an hour of getting it home but we were going away and I didn’t have time to complain. Gave them the benefit of the doubt but never again. Picked it up looking perfect. Within an hour of getting it home and leaving it in a cold dark place the icing had run off along with the photo and the cake was leaning looking an absolute sweaty mess.
Called and emailed and was told not their problem. £80 wasted - the last £80 they ever get of mine.
Fantastic Customer Service
I ordered from Flavourtown having been gifted a cake from them a few years ago. I paid extra for delivery which they use an external company for - unfortunately on receipt of the cake, it had been damaged during delivery. I immediately got in touch with them and received an almost instantaneous response from their Customer Service agent apologising and to let me know they would look into it, which they have in a friendly and timely manner. Great Customer Service and an extremely tasty cake - will definitely be ordering from them again

Ordered a cake for our Daughter’s birthday and picked it up from the Richmond Branch.
Within few hours of collection the cake collapsed . You could clearly see the top was higher than the bottom. Nothing to hold the cake so obviously didn’t hold itself.
Emailed and called customer service but receiving shocking response and they basically gaslighting us. Apparently when you sign a waver when collecting the cake , it’s not their responsibility anymore.
£90+ cake you would expect the cake to hold together .
We didn’t even want our money back but some sort of acknowledgment from the customer service , they point blank refused and almost blaming us for the cake collapsing. “ Shocking attitude , would never order from them again.
Ps - still waiting for the co-founder to email us back after more than 10 days ..
Such a shame because the cake tasted nice ..
TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE - AVOID
TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. The same experience as many others below me. Expensive cakes arrived damaged and inedible. I was gaslighted by their dismissive customer service person, and the kid's party was ruined. Not happy. Won't be using them again. I had to raise a chargeback to get my money back.

Delicious moist chocolate caramel cake (slice), which was huge! Very light and fluffy, not too sweet. Really like the choice available in the bakery. Will definitely return
Scoop it Out the Box if You Can
Every order of cupcakes gets delivered squashed, broken, or lopsided. Not one order has reached me in tact. So fed up with it. I wanted to order as a gift for others because the badass cupcake is one of the best I’ve had. Presentation though is an embarrassment. Please don’t blame it on the driver. You have chosen to use this service Flavourtown so you should be going out of your way to secure your product. This is your responsibility. The price isn’t justified when you have to scoop out half the ingredients out of the box each and every time. You need to fix this or lose customers.

Sadly will never use again. Have used this company for years and my husband kindly ordered me a cake for my birthday brought it home when we had family over and the cake is due was dry and very overcooked. There was little to no filling between the sponge layers and the outside of the cake was burnt covered by the icing. Having used them for many years I contacted them on the day we got the cake to be told that there was nothing wrong with the batches that had been done and by the time they replied with a man answer it was outside their 24hr window to have the cake returned. Poor customer service, a £70 cake now left as no one wants to eat it , complete waste and most of all disappointing customer service. I will not be using them again
Don’t bother
I ordered a cake for my partners birthday in September/October, for the 28th December. Only to be emailed by them yesterday saying they are closed now on this day. Meaning now I have to come up with £77 ASAP to order a new one. My bank account is low due to Xmas (that’s why I ordered in September/October) now I have to wait for 10 working days to get the money back. I have no money as I’ve spent it on Xmas gifts and his birthday presents, bills etc….
Never again will I use this company. As someone from NZ I was also trying to give my money to a kiwi business. Really annoyed, angry and frustrated.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Flavourtown Bakery in Richmond, and I must say it was an absolute delight! The bakery offers a wide array of delicious treats that are not only visually stunning but also incredibly tasty. The staff at Flavourtown Bakery were friendly and welcoming, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. The bakery itself had a cozy and inviting atmosphere, making it the perfect place to relax and indulge in some sweet treats.

Red velvet cake is my favourite
I'm such a fan of the red velvet cake, the icing is lovely, and the cake is lovely. I've ordered repeatedly from the Park Royal factory and have always had a good experience. The only reason this isn't 5* is because of the delivery tracking app. If you're doing any time delivery, for me it was a little frustrating as the time slot kept changing so just make sure you have the day free to be at home. Probably if I paid the extra to have a timed delivery this would have been better. Other than that, very happy customer. I think this cake is going to be a constant order for all future birthdays and celebrations.

Walked into the shop, it was very dirty with a lot of crumbs everywhere.
Flies on the cakes and the counter looked very messy.
The atmosphere is very unpleasing, could have done with a better interior designer.
I saw what appeared to be the owner talking to the young man behind the counter. Very flirtaous looking, was a bit weird due to the age difference.
All the cupcakes are the same bake as Hummingbird bakery really, for a higher price. I was quite shocked to see that even their boxes and candles are copied from Lola's cupcakes. Not a single original idea.
I bought a cookie and it was hard as a rock. For 5 pound a cookie, its practically extortion.
I told my friend and he said he had a bad experience as well. He ordered a whole cake and it arrived completely destroyed, they had no remorse to offer a replacement or a refund.
From the look of things, seems to me they are in a habit of scamming their customers. Don't bother wasting your money here.
