Visited the Edinburgh store after the other Forbidden Planet (with the rocket logo) sent an email saying a pr-order has a release date change. FPI Edinburgh and ever other comic shop had the book. Such a shame this Forbidden Planet gets tarnished because of the others bad service!

I was in Sheffield at the weekend before going to a concert in the evening. Bought a hardcover which was supposed to be reduced to £12.49 and when checking my bank statement they have charged me £24.99. They have been extremely obstructive when I rang them this morning. It is over 80 miles for me to go back and it would take me 2 or 3 hours. It would cost almost as much as the refund amount to get there. I am unlikely to be in Sheffield again until some time next year. I have spent thousands of pounds with them in the past as I used to have a weekly standing order with them but they are being difficult when this was their mistake. I have part of my foot amputated and an open wound on that foot at the moment so I don’t want an unnecessary journey. I have multiple health concerns and their attitude this morning has had an adverse impact on my health. Avoid Forbidden Planet Sheffield!

Time and time again I place an order for a special, for me anyway, signed comic and time and time again I receive an apology stating unable to complete order as item is not available etc. I then check elsewhere and it is available but significantly more or its now on eBay for incredible amounts of cash. So, sadly I’ve now stopped bothering with this company. Sad but unfair to keep hoping that they will deliver.

Regular online orders of in stock items arrive on time and in great condition and I never have an issue with them.

Pre-Order items on the other hand almost never show up and usually end up getting cancelled. So I've learned to just avoid going to forbidden planet for pre-orders.

Terrible customer service. They treat loyal staff diabolically. People have given up theirs lives for this company and they treat them like something they've stood on. Will never step foot in their shop again. Zavvi online is where it's at. Better prices, quick delivery. Not like these leeches.

Never ordered online, only shopped in the Hull store which is really nice and has tons of stuff. The book deals on Manga are great (3 for 2), and they have lots of Funko and Loungefly stuff, plus much more. We buy from them all the time and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

For a couple of years great service on comics and no damages, then start of the year (2024) they changed their management and staff. Recently I kept on getting damaged comics, either poor handling at their end or postage damage due to poor packing. I advised them about industry standards and showed them photos of their poor packing and inappropriate mailers for comics, they did not care for my advice and were very defensive rather than taking on a chance to improve the business and income. They said I was lucky to have comics with a backing board, some of these comics cost £40!
I even wanted to keep one of the damaged comics if they were willing to partial refund but they said their supplier needed to see the damage ( I supplied photos), either return the £200 comic or keep it. Due to lack of supply I had no choice but to keep it, albeit damaged, this happened on a couple of more occssions, i just did not bother complaining.

Last week I placed an order, they then cancelled it, I asked why? They then told me I was banned from ordering, literally because I returned some damaged comics (their fault) and nothing more. I was friendly and respectful at all times.

I did not realise they were in such a strong financial position that they can turn away thousands of pounds worth of annual business. Very poor customer service and business acumen.

Update 01/09/24 - nobody from FPI has bothered to contact me, even though they said in their response they wanted to get to the 'bottom' of this - I am easily identifable through their sales team - they know me.

Called the store spoke to a girl that was quite superb took a note of all my requirements put them aside for me and I picked them up great to have someone on the phone wanting to help and nothing was a problem she is an exceptional member of staff in fp Glasgow

Always had a good experience, Some staff can be a little grouchy sometimes

Ordered a few comics and was sent well protected and arrived in great condition. Website could be improved.

I ordered on Friday the 13th and recieved Friday the 20th, as apparently the owner only ships orders out every Wednesday, which is odd, and I also only found out through email? Weird?
In regards to the comics, they were packaged really well and the prices really good! I will most likely be back for those 2 big positives, I'll just make sure to save my basket to checkout on a Tuesday evening lol!

Avoid. Went with them for a couple of comics. They only bothered to send one of them, cancelling the order and charged me the full postage. Customer service not interested in helping. Will avoid in future.

Como los libros costaron muy baratos, no imaginé que estarían en un estado tan impecable, perfectos, sin una marca, sin una rasgadura, y sin ninguna esquina doblada!
Por otro lado, el envío arribó mucho más rápido de lo estipulado. Sólo palabras de agradecimiento para ellos.

Have used the company's online service for years, and the service overall is getting steadily worse and worse. Slow deliveries, pre-orders not being delivered and then going out of stock, generic responses from customer service.

I've missed out on multiple items despite having pre-ordered them, which I can only assume is due to a flaw in the way they process their online orders.

They seem to have a monopoly on physical comics in the UK, and at this point I'm so fed up with the level of service that I'm close to just giving up on comics in general.

I ordered three books from this company, having never ordered from them before.
The first book took three days to be charged to my card, and was then sent four days later.
The second took six days just to be charged and was despatched five days later.
I cancelled the third book because, after eleven days it had still not even been charged to my card.
It's 2022, electronic transactions are virtually instantaneous, there is no excuse for delays of this kind. Forbidden Planet act as though it's 1860 and they need to send a clerk to the bank to pick up my money before they can even get the book off the shelf.
I will not be shopping with these slackers again.

Edit: 8/9/22 The staff has now sourced a replacement pop for me so i have to give them credit for following through with their promise.

I pre-ordered an SDCC pop with Forbidden Planet Dublin - and was told it was available to collect. I travelled in today to collect it, only to be told you sold it to someone else and didn't have any more. What a waste of my time. Very disappointed in the service today. You said you would try and source another; I'm not sure I believe that - but if you do I will edit this to reflect the outcome.

Stay away from Edinburgh.

I am honestly shocked a put off by the attitude if the staff. While looking around, I over heard the staff laughing about the previous customers. They had purchased 7-8 bags from the store equaling quite alot of money. The female assistant (short brown hair) laughed and said the customers should be spending their money on clothes and not bags as they looks a mess.
As you can imagine we left the shop without purchasing anything. Why would I purchase something from a shop where they think openly laughing about customers, infront of possible customers is ok? Visited 31/5/2022 at around 1.20pm

My local store, Sheffield, is quite a small store, however they still manage to have a good range with stocks of new items coming into the store all the time.
They have a good mix of products, with a nice mix of Funko pops, comics/manga, figurines and some other stuff mixed in as well.
The staff are always friendly and I always enjoy having conversations with them.
I highly suggest this store to anybody in the sheffield area.

They've resolved my issue. Within 24hrs. I've been ordering comics from them for a whole year now and considering the current climate with delays etc I've never had a situation where my books were missing or outta stock. I pre-order months in advance thanks to the previews catalogue which I highly recommend by the way. Its only a coupla quid so can't go wrong. And through that I find everything I need and forbidden planet always has them up for pre-order. Great organisation I highly recommend them for anyone looking for a trusted solution for comic book collecting. And they're packaged very securely. My books have always come in the best condition possible. I understand we all have a job to do and sometimes things can go wrong but we are only human. So when I correspond to them I always make sure to be polite and thank them. I know if that was me I'd sooner help someone who's polite then someone who's rude. Thanks again guys and keep up the good work.

It's not the first time that I have visited Forbidden Planet in Edinburgh and I have always found that the staff is very rude and unwelcoming. And on several occasions, I also went with a friend who uses an electric wheelchair. Despite multiple years of loyal custom, the owner of Forbidden Planet Edinburgh consistently refuses to have a removable ramp onsite and treat people who require them as anything other than a nuisance. This small arrangement would be an absolute minimal effort for such a shop as prescribed by the law.
I really don’t understand as there is a lot of disability awareness throughout the geek community. I therefore will call on anybody with a disabled friend, family, or acquaintance, as well as everyone who sees their value to society to boycott that shop.
