Review: Glerc headstock steering seized while riding.
Review:
I purchased a bicycle for my daughter, but the headstock quickly seized up (14 months) because the internal bearings were sent completely bone-dry from the factory with zero grease. Without a protective layer of grease, the raw steel corroded rapidly, making the bike unsafe to ride.
When I contacted customer service, they tried to pass the liability onto me by stating: "Thank you for your patience while our technical team reviewed your case. We have now received their feedback. Based on their assessment, the issue does not appear to be related to a lack of lubrication. They believe it may be associated with how the bike was stored."
I completely reject this assessment. The bike has always been stored undercover. Furthermore, anyone with mechanical knowledge knows that headstock bearings must be heavily housed in grease from the factory precisely to seal out standard atmospheric moisture. Because there was no grease layer present when opened, it was a manufacturing quality omission, not a storage issue.
While Glerc has now agreed to replace the headstock parts under warranty, I am very disappointed by their initial attempt to shift blame onto the customer for a clear factory assembly defect. I hope the replacement parts arrive properly lubricated.
