WARNING TO ALL POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS
WARNING TO ALL POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS: THINK VERY CAREFULLY BEFORE ORDERING FROM GUPPY KING.
To Dr Thushara Samaratunga and the management of Guppy King,
My experience with this business has left me seriously concerned about its order fulfilment, communication and accountability to paying customers.
I placed order #13625 on 1 September 2026, paying $115 for French Blue Star Endlers and Snow White guppies, including shipping.
The order confirmation stated, “Your order has been shipped.” Yet the order information within that same email stated “Yet to be shipped.” These two statements directly contradict each other.
Where is the shipment? Where is the tracking information? And why should a paying customer have to chase a business for basic information about an order they have already paid for?
Dr Samaratunga, if you are responsible for this business, it is time to take responsibility for the standard of service being provided to your customers. You run a fraudulent business as such yet you are a lecturer in sustainability at Bond University. How is this even possible?
Aquatic livestock is not an ordinary commodity. Customers entrust a seller with the health and safe delivery of living animals. That requires proper communication, responsible handling, reliable dispatch procedures and a willingness to resolve problems when things go wrong.
A business cannot expect customers to hand over their money and then leave them wondering whether their order has even been dispatched. Customers deserve accurate information, clear communication and accountability.
And what about the rest of the Sam Group?
Your publicly promoted business portfolio extends well beyond Guppy King. Sam Group lists Sam's Aquarium, Sam's Plant Nursery, Sam's Agro and Sam's Eco Villas, while its aquarium business portfolio also includes Shrimp Queen.
I sincerely hope these other businesses operate to a much higher standard than the customer experience I have encountered with Guppy King.
A diversified business group should mean broader experience, stronger management and better accountability—not an excuse for customers to be left chasing paid orders and trying to establish whether their livestock has even been dispatched.
If you want customers to trust the wider Sam Group brand, that trust must be earned through reliable service, honest communication and proper follow-through across every business you operate.
Dr Samaratunga, are you prepared to address these problems at Guppy King and demonstrate that customer satisfaction and animal welfare genuinely matter?
To prospective customers
My advice is simple: do your research, read independent reviews, and carefully consider the risks before placing an order. Do not rely solely on the promises made on a seller's website.
To Guppy King management: clean up your act. If an order has been paid for, fulfil it properly. If it cannot be fulfilled, communicate honestly and resolve the matter promptly. If your shipping notifications are inaccurate, fix the system.
These are basic business responsibilities, not unreasonable customer demands.
The aquarium hobby depends on trust between breeders, sellers and customers. That trust is earned through consistent performance, not simply through advertising fish for sale.
Customers deserve better. Living animals deserve better. And this business needs to demonstrate that it takes both responsibilities seriously.
Potential buyers: please make an informed decision before spending your money.
