Worked for HC-One at Victoria Manor Edinburgh Scotland , the Place needs investigated and shut down things breaking constantly and managment not giving a dash about it since it does not effect their routine ,constant shortage of staff, constant cutting corners Incompetent staff , Mistreatment of residents,Rude Management who do not know how to properly do their job, and overall rude staff who act nice all of sudden when there are visitors or when an inspection takes place , in Victoria Manor there is a Unit called "Balmoral" known as the dementia unit where carers need extra help so instead of hiring more carers for that unit they make the Kitchen Assistant do extra work for the same pay and since i was not one of the Head chefs and Assistant Head chefs favourite i was in there practically every shift rotating between a unit called "Saxe-Coburg"a unit where the Dishwasher had been broken for months which often forced us to work quick and still finish late but Management did not care as it did not impact there routine and when i brought this up to the Assistant Head chef i was ridiculed and after that the Head chef and Assistant Head chef started talking about me behind my back , i found that out from a trusted colleague who was one of the ones too scared to speak up that admitted i was right , he as well started working there only a month before i did and he was also a regular in Balmoral and Saxe-Coburg and in addition to that a week after me a women joined and she also became a regular in Balmoral and Saxe-Coburg meanwhile the Head chefs and Assistant Head chefs favourites were being put in the other units , weird coincidence how us 3 are of different ethnic backgrounds with me being a being a Tan-Slavic and them 2 being Black on top of that they had a trainee chef in the kitchen of South Asian background who they often made a joke out of and treated like some stupid nobody that does not know a thing , i once also heard the Head chef call one of the carers an "Italian tw*at" because she had her own way of serving textures , i would not put my worst enemy's parents in there nor would i recommend anyone to work there boycott this twisted company

I would think very carefully before placing anyone in Victoria House. The units are woefully understaffed.1 carer to a unit of 16 - 20 residents. The majority of the carers "at the coalface " are ok,some are not. I witnessed one carer serving lunch with her bare hands, no spoon, tongs, or gloves.The higher management are dismissive, uncaring and rude.
I paid a tremendous amount of money for my husbands care, but had to do all his personal care myself at every visit. Despite being asked and getting it put into his care plan no-one ever shaved him or cleaned his teeth.
None of the carers seemed to have read any notes or care plan.None of them knew what he was suffering from and were surprised when I told them, surely this is a basic need to be able to care for someone adequately.
He was frequently covered in dried faeces on his bottom, scrotum and thighs. He got a pressure sore and a District Nurse was called, but after a couple of visits she discharged him and left it to the staff to treat, which rarely happened due to understaffing.
He had an unwitnessed fall which lead to hospitalisation and ultimately his death. They were prepared to send him in an ambulance alone.They said he was ok to go alone. He had advanced dementia, and when I got there he had no idea why his arm was hurting so much when I asked him. And he was supposed to book himself in at A&E ?? When the nurse cut open his vest his chest was filthy, it looked like cradle cap. That takes a long time to accumulate.He obviously hadnt been properly washed in a long time.
He was put onto "end of life " care and died 9 days later. I received not one word of condolence from HC One or the management at Victoria House.The carers were very kind when I went to empty his room. No representative attended his funeral ,even though the church was less than 5 minutes walk from Victoria House.
I paid HC One £51,000 for his "care"

Rejected for a role using an excuse that was simply untrue. I live around 10 minutes away by car, yet was told I was not within commutable distance. If you don’t want to hire someone, be honest instead of giving misleading reasons. Very poor recruitment practice.

Having at first being over invoiced by HC One after death of my parent I am now owed money but they are very slow to release the funds which is causing me issues. The person who I have been dealing with is as helpful as she could possibly be but I am very dissatisfied. Totally separate from the experience of the care home itself which was absolutely brilliant.

I wouldn't even give it one star half star so I'm being generous.
Shift changes, being spoken to by management like we're not people with feelings. Being rude to staff at staff meeting calling them useless etc and in not a nice tone. Worse manager ever come across in years worked at the home.
Not like being at home but stay as it is a job which I do to the best of my abilities.

My review is about 2 people I know who were long serving employees at one of their unsanitary sanitariums in Cramlington. These were cases of Constructive Dismissal by the Toxic Idiots that work there.

Idiots for lack of a better term, as the majority there like to get paid minimum wage for minimum effort as possible. Chatting, interloping going outside for vapes and smoking (the latter is actually good for their ill-gotten health). Now they have pushed out another hard working person which is endemic in this subversive joke of a company, that they will have to work a little harder for their wage.

This is how the term Toxic Idiots is intrinsic, as most who are there want to do as little as possible (probably due to their life force energy being so low - low lifes) yet when they force out good workers they can't do as-much minimum effort, but are forced to do even more minimum effort to earn their living.

My Father-in-Law moved to Appleton Manor late 2024, it became quickly apparent that this is an outstanding care home, all of the staff seem to have worked there for many years, they are passionate about providing the best level of care for the residents.
The residents are treated with patience and understanding allowing them to retain their dignity.
The administration and management of the home is outstanding, the administration and management team is efficient and treat you as if they have known you all of you life, more over they provide help and understanding during a transitional period that can be daunting and tricky to navigate when you are new to te process.
There is entertainment provided to keep the residents alert and engaged, again the entertainment team is fantastic, encouraging the residents to get involved in the various activities. The leisure activities are varied and regular, they include singers and choirs that visit, gardening and cooking, singing, visits from local schools, churches and many other regular activities.
There is a games room that includes a pool table, dozens of board games and other things to do.
Additionally there are quite a few common areas where residents can sit and watch TV or listen to music, there is also a "quiet room" where residents who want to relax can go.
The garden is a great space where residents can get some fresh air on a nice day with plenty of activities to keep them engaged.
The whole place is like a community where residents and their love ones can feel comfortable and looked after.
I cannot speak highly enough about Appleton Manor.

Vile,disgusting behaviour.Dont follow laws,no accountability,threats,ignored,dismissed and ignored and that’s just the beginning.Do not put your family members in these homes as their staff are liars,inadequately trained, incompetent,dishonest and down right dangerous

Just spoken to Clare at the booking office I’m trying to get information and availability for my uncle to go in a home she was very understanding helpful and caring trying all she could
She was amazing and gave me a direct number if I needed anymore help or assistance big thanks from me

Hc1 are a terrible company. They have no understanding of booked holidays or “Not on call”. They also have no regard for long serving members of staff. The people who who should be listening and paying attention are away with the fairies and not fit for purpose. Wakey, wakey.

My father was in Elmwood House Boston. The care he received was terrible which I won’t go into here but it’s left him afraid of care homes. I have complained but am still waiting for a satisfactory reply nearly 4 months later. When I first made my complaint they actually blamed my father for everything, he is 92. He was left in bed for a week with a suspected broken leg. They said it wasn’t their responsibility to get him to hospital.

The worst care home st.Christopher’s my mother died 8 days after being admitted to hospital. The home was supposed to put bar up on side of bed (my instructions I signed form for this) they did not do it and my mum fell out of bed flat on her face. Gashed her head broke her arm. Do not put your loved one in there home when I challenged manager he said it was on wrong side of bed. NEXT TO WALL

Wonderful place to work. It is the best job ever. Polite and friendly staff, always helpful. The manager is always available for staff, even if she's really busy. Very supportive employer.

My experience of this company particularly Woodlands View Stevenage is I would never recommend this nursing home especially Newton House part of it to anyone

Worked for The Cambridge. Awful manager with no compassion or respect. Work long hours for no appreciation , don’t get paid what they owe you when you do favours, now I’ve waited 4 months & still not paid, just lied too, with false promises. The few permanent staff left work hard & get treated unfairly, no support given.
Manager shouts at you if you dare complain & shares your complaints with the person you complained about.
Residents suffer due to high agency that are there for money not for the love of caring for the elderly.

Very bad care home . Staff leave residents to their own devices with loud tvs and do not check on them. Residents often scream for help but are ignored.. when dad was on the first floor the nurses on their mobile phones with earpods and rude attitude when we asked for help with dad. It was an inconvenience for us to talk to them . They also lost dads clothes and couldn't find them. We packed loads of clothes and he was left with a few t shirts and wearing other people's bottoms. Again no apology or explanation at all. Yesterday my vulnerable dad with alzheimer's went missing from the ground floor and the staff didn't even care. They said because its residential they dont need to check on anyone. We searched the area for 4 hours . Dad had rope around his waist i attached photos ..... Staff did not comment or apologise or say anything when we raised our concerns and showed them. Instead we got blank expression and radio silence. . One woman. Short blonde hair was at end of her shift and said she saw my dad walk towards tower bridge yet declined chase him or run after him knowing he was vulnerable. I'm sorry but there's a duty of care whether you are finishing your shift or not. Why didn't you stop him ? Chase him. Alert someone? . Dad was very distressed and upset. The manager on duty stayed silent. Didn't say anything. Very concerning that someone with alzheimer's just went missing and no action was taking by staff. Apparently police were called buti saw no sign of them in the 4hrs . This is a horrible place . And quite sad knowing there is no interaction with residents or activity with them. Needless to say we have removed my dad from the home. .

These people run "care" homes. In particular I refer to Greatwood House, Denton, Manchester. My father was dumped in here without my knowledge or consent. Had the home actually bothered to contact his next of kin, his daughter, then they would be advised that he would've cared for properly by her, but no. Surely in a situation like this a man's daughter should be advised, and any ethical person would contact her???Happy to take all of his money and give substandard "care" without contacting his daughter. Eventually was able to see him - hit with overwhelming stench of stale urine throughout the place. Powerless to remove him as extreme manipulation and elder abuse had been allowed to happen behind my back. Horrific hell hole, I wouldn't put a dog in there let alone a human being. My dad died alone, in horrific surroundings. Evil.

If you have any self respect stay away from this company. I've worked in the support carleine team now for quite a long time and a find it disgusting.
If you care about your mental health avoid avoid avoid. The managers have no clue what their doing, they go on about being kind and caring and don't do it themselfs. The main office manager Deborah Hulse Raper talks out loud on the office floor slagging off employees when there not in and then boasts about how nice and kind she is. Should be careful because legal action has been investigated. not daft.Loves drama and treats everyone like a piece of dirt. Shifts change all the time. Theres staff that come in and last a few month before leaving or being forced out. 1 lady's mam died and was told she can only take 3 days off. Discusting. The staff that have been here hate it. Theres 2 teams on every team.

Meadow Bank Care Home, Clayton Brook, Lancashire

I was recently told by a member of staff in a grossly inappropriate manner (sadistic glee) that my elderly relative had a Do Not Resuscitate order signed by the DOLS team. When I informed the staff member I wished to complain about her manner and how offensive she had been she refused to apologise or put me through to a manager to complain. I'm not sure whether the member of staff is a sadist, of an uncommonly low IQ or has some personality defect on some spectrum but this behaviour is unacceptable and I'll be ensuring people are made aware of just how you can expect to be treated as a relative of an inmate in the facility.

Update 15/2/2021 - Denied a call with my elderly relative who is an inmate at Meadowbank. Called back and spoke to the unit manager , Rob Brown, who was abusive and insisted I was up in court recently on a Police matter and had a criminal past. He couldn't substantiate these unfounded allegations of criminal activity on my part or clarify the matter at all. Rob was rude and accusatory throughout the call and implied I was mentally ill and didn't know what happened in the 'Really Real World'. Rob has a very limited capacity with the English language and wouldn't confirm what he meant and became histrionic before terminating the phonecall in a tantrum. I was later able to speak to my relative for 10 minutes. I had to make 4 phone calls in total to speak to a relative, had no success reporting Rob Brown's unfounded accusations and bizarre mode of speech or establishing when, and if my relative would be able to have a day out at the seaside.
Meadowbank make it difficult to talk to inmates and, in Rob Brown's case, become abusive when attempting to discuss issues and slander you with accusations you've been in court over criminal matters and are hassling and causing his staff members grief. For the record I have never been arrested, charged or up in court on any Police/Criminal matter. Rob Brown is slandering and defaming my good name and I won't stand for the allegations of me being a criminal. I will expect a full apology from Rob over his false claims, snotty attitude and generally offensive tone.
