Rather than give us a discount that was included in the price, we were upgraded to a different vehicle which was filthy inside and out. The previous renter's paperwork was still inside the vehicle. Because we were short on time we accepted the vehicle as is. I'm not sure if we will be using Hertz again.

I've been a Gold member at Hertz for a while and rent vehicles regularly for business. What I'm about to describe isn't a one-time mishap—it's a pattern of poor service that has finally pushed me to abandon the Hertz and Dollar Thrifty company entirely.

My latest reservation exemplifies the problem: the reserved vehicle class wasn't available. Instead of a suitable alternative, I was given a cigarette scented 2024 model that was visibly dirty and unkempt, complete with footprints on the passenger seat back. Unacceptable.

I called headquarters to arrange an exchange at the BNA location. Despite BNA management and staff objections, they eventually processed it. However, when I returned the replacement vehicle to the Briley Parkway location, the manager attempted to charge me a cleaning fee—citing excessive grass and dog hair on the floor of the brand new car. This is the same location where I had just received the 2024 in poor condition.

This isn't customer service; it's a business model designed to exploit customers. I've experienced this behavior repeatedly in Nashville. After over a decade of loyalty, Hertz has made it clear they don't value long-term customers.

I will never rent from Hertz again. If you value your time and money, avoid all Nashville-area locations.
