We’ve tried a few alternative chocolatiers over the years but none of them come close to Holdsworth and it’s n our doorstep. How lucky are we?

UPDATE 22/02/2026
Holdsworth Chocolates emailed me following their reply above, and quickly sent out a replacement box of chocolates, which was in perfect condition! Their customer service and the chocolates themselves were brilliant. I think this was an issue with poor storage at Amazon, and nothing to do with Holdsworth Chocolates themselves. I've therefore changed my review rating and would recommend without reservation.
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
I ordered a box of Renaissance Chocolates from the Holdsworth Chocolates store via Amazon. When they arrived, some had clearly melted at some point and others were covered in white streaks and powder, which I've since read is sugar/fat bloom, common to out of date chocolates.
I therefore had a look at the Best Before sticker, and the last digit of the year had been ripped away (May 202 ), leaving me with no clue *what* year these chocolates went out of date.
I understand that items can get damaged, but selling chocolates that are clearly *at least* 8 months past their BB date is pretty untrustworthy. Luckily, Amazon gave me a refund, but now I have no gift to give. I will never buy from this company again.

ORIGINAL RESPONSE: Hi, Thank you for taking the time to write us a review.
We sincerely apologise for your disappointing experience. All of our chocolates are handmade, hand finished and hand packed, allowing us to monitor every process before we dispatch our chocolates. Each box has a 6 month best before date on it, when it leaves our factory - we send our chocolates off to a laboratory for shelf-life testing to ensure they are stable for the entire 6 months. However, if the chocolates are not stored in the advised storage conditions, which we send to all of our stores, warehouses and haulage companies, then unfortunately this can affect both the taste & texture of the centres. It seems from what you have described, that at some point during the journey to you, your chocolates have been exposed to high fluctuations in temperature, causing them to 'bloom' - this creates a 'dusty' looking coating on the outer shell of the chocolates. It also seems like your box has been damaged in transit, unfortunately, once the chocolates have left our factory in Bakewell, we have very little control over how they are handled by Amazon warehouses & delivery drivers, and at times, this can mean that the chocolates arrive in less than perfect condition. This is not how Holdsworth Chocolates intend for our handmade confections to arrive with customers, we expect to deliver our chocolates in perfect condition. If you could please email us at info@holdsworthchocolates.co.uk with an image of the damaged box and the chocolates, along with your full postal address, we will of course look into this & contact Amazon, and send you a fresh box to enjoy.

Ordered chocolates before Christmas did…
Ordered chocolates before Christmas did not receive them and has ignored my emails, so now it’s gone to our credit card company to deal with.
Such a shame as we did like there chocolates.
But they have now lost our custom.

We work with Holdsworth Chocolates and love the Chocolates they make. Therefore, we do buy there Chocolates because they taste so good, especially if you go to the factory shop and buy direct, you get the freshest handmade Chocolates which are without doubt amazing.
