Have been using Independence Expat Tax for the last 2 years. Completely satisfied with their service. As a US expat with a non US citizen spouse, Independence Expat Tax has made my filing experience a breeze. From their responsiveness, knowledgeability, and professionalism, there isn't an accounting service I would recommend over Independence Expat Tax.

Independence Expat Tax was a lifesaver…
Independence Expat Tax was a lifesaver and got me back into compliance with the IRS. I have been living abroad for over 20 years and (wrongly) assumed that since my income was under the foreign exemption limit ($100K~120K in the past 10 years), I didn't have to file my tax returns. After the US tax laws changed during the Obama administration, all expats now had to file an income tax return every year in addition to filing an FBAR for foreign bank accounts. I became aware of this a decade later and realized that I was now vulnerable to non-filing penalties if the IRS decided to audit me.
That's when I reached out to Independence Expat Tax, and they walked me through the IRS Streamlined Procedure for getting back into tax compliance. A happy benefit of getting back into compliance was that I was able to receive my covid benefit checks, which only go out to those who file their taxes. A year after sorting this out, Independence Expat Tax also guided me through the process of filing my final tax report for expatriation; if you give up your American citizenship, you may be subject to a hefty exit tax from the IRS. Independence helped me understand the details of the exit tax forms and answered all my questions about this complicated and confusing process. There's no way I could have done this on my own! I highly recommend Independence Expat Tax and compared to the other tax service providers I spoke with their prices are very reasonable.
