Do not understand how this consistently left wing entity can call itself
'The Independent' surely its against the Trade Descriptions Act.

I am absolutely disgusted by the Independent newspaper. A family member of mine was convicted of a crime OVER 11 years ago and under the rehabilitation of offenders act 1974, that conviction is now SPENT and they legally no longer have to declare it. Since then, both them and my family have severely suffered with bullying, depression and anxiety as our lives were out in the public. They have worked incredibly hard to get to where they are now and are finally running their own business. They’ve reached out to numerous news agencies explaining their situation, and how still having it appear online after 11 long years was affecting the lives of them, our family and negatively affecting their business. Under the May 2014 European ruling ‘the right to erasure’, all other news agencies have taken the article down. The Independent however refuses to due to “freedom of expression”!? My family member reached out last year begging for them to take that article down, and they refused. They reached out again this year, and received the reply of ‘I thought we had discussed this in great length last year?’. Needless to say, they are still refusing to take it down. Myself and other family members have received hateful abuse, insults and as a result of this our lives have been impacted. This continues today, because the Independent refuses to take this article down. People can search us up, and we are instantly judged. All other news agencies have taken it down because they understand it is no longer in the public interest, and my family member is trying to build a life for themselves. Even the prosecuting barrister agreed to take their article down. What makes the Independent so heartless I don’t know, but a big thanks to them for dragging out the pain of the last 11 years that we were hoping to put behind us.

Their website is hilariously bad. It's just about useable on desktop, but for the sake of your sanity don't visit on your phone.

The site chugs along, it forces auto-play of videos (often not relevant to the article itself), it refreshes randomly, it makes use of extensive pop-ups and generates so many errors in the console it's laughable.

What a disappointing newspaper the so called "Independent" has become. Hardly any real new news, just the same item repeated day after day with the comments deleted at each days end. Very sympathetic towards a Middle Eastern bully stealing anothers land and destroying their Olive groves.
Will not be renewing my subscription.

I do seem to recall the Independent being a smart, neutral newspaper. Now it's just a horrid, unusable Daily Mail wannabe. The less said about the Lebedev influence the better.

Full of garbage, written by opinionated columnists who think they know what they are talking about, but actually know nothing, print the news truthfully or get out of the business

Smarty or Dumby?
Signed up in Nov 2022 with a promise of £10 reward voucher for Amazon or John Lewis. Smarty say they will email the reward after one month. One month later…nothing, so contact them.after sending them a further nine emails I got an Amazon voucher code on February 20th, 2023. Used it immediately and Amazon website declined the code as Invalid. Smarty suggested I should contact Amazon to resolve this! Four days later Amazon Customer Service confirmed the code was not valid. After a further nine emails, Smarty told me that the John Lewis voucher had been redeemed!!! I suggested that fraud or a con might be involved and asked for a copy of the email with the John Lewis voucher. Today, March 7th 2023, Smarty sent me a link with a purported John Lewis voucher. I tried the link immediately, only to be told that the voucher was either invalid or had expired. Smarty’s response is to offer a £10 credit on my account. I said NO as I would not trust them as far as I could throw a grand piano! It seems either to be staggering levels of incompetence or an out and out scam. Either way, avoid this company. W ⚓️⚓️

This tabloid/news paper is incapable of honest, unbiased reporting. They protect crimes of an extreme left nature quite alarmingly, such as the Twitter file scandal which makes the Watergate scandal look like kindergarten. The non-independent puts out ridiculous and far removed from reality articles, hoping someone is foolish enough to believe their propagandist drivel.

A good use for this news paper is to burn it to keep warm, use it as toilet paper or a puppy training pad. Or immediately recycle it.

Appalling lack of communication. I took out a trial subscription but just didn’t have time to read the online newspaper. On 17th December I saw that they had taken £69.95 from my bank. I immediately emailed them in 17th to ask them to refund, as they had not warned me they were going to take it. I am on a pension. They did not reply. I have since sent FOUR repeat emails which they have ignored. So today (21st) I phoned them. The automated message told me to email them!!!!!

I will never read their newspaper again. They won’t answer their phone and won’t reply to emails. They have my money and won’t communicate with me about it.

I live in Spain, everytime I click on an article it redirects me to the Spanish main site "independentespañol" and I can't access said article.

This has happened to me several times before I remember I JUST CAN'T VISIT THE INDEPENDENT WITHOUT A VPN.

Absolute trash coding / management of viewers from outside the anglosphere, I know how to speak English perfectly, I don't need a poorly made and translated website WHICH WONT EVEN SHOW ME THE ARTICLE IM INTERESTED IN.

Garbage. The News media is the ENEMY. All they do is remove and block my comments instantly. They are trying to promote a False Liberal reality where it doesn't exist. Totally biased and not a News organization.

One of the vilest gutter tabloids in British History and makes The Sun seem like a concise encyclopaedia. It really isn’t a credible periodical and is closely followed by the Observer. 😡😡😡

This online newspaper is a racist piece of trash. Added to my list of blocked websites in my browser. I used to love the Indie for its balance and left wing perspective. Now it is worse than the Sun or News of the World. Constant grammatical errors, spelling mistakes (even in subtitles) and I agree with other reviews here that the comment moderators are selecting right-wing, even racist views and deleting balancing arguments. It happened to me. My comments challenging racism are always blocked within minutes. I am never horrible in them. On the other hand, for example someone called Jjj recently called all Asians feckless (in an article about joblessness) and though his comments are always racist/ borderline and must get flagged heavily, none ever appear to get blocked.

ADD THE INDEPENDENT TO YOUR BLOCKED WEBSITE LIST IN PREFERENCES: TALK WITH YOUR FEET

The Guardian is a bit better, but there are few real alternatives. Try double down news.

Not independent AT ALL. All mainstream propaganda without objective and non biased journalism. STAY AWAY

Dreadful website, badly layed out, constantly interrupted by blaring adverts. But the disturbing thing is on the comments pages, the ludicrous moderators allow sometimes offensively right wing posts or deeply unpleasant comments yet anytime myself or someone posts a comment challenging the said nastier comments or something less right wing they are reported and taken off. It is supposed to be a more left wing, sympathetic news source, always was, yet the comments pages and way the moderator singles out certain replies indicates it's really the Daily Hate Mail. Dangerous agenda, I think.
