My Kailash Mansarovar Yatra (May–June…
My Kailash Mansarovar Yatra (May–June 2026) with Max Holidays was marred by severe overcrowding, poor planning, and repeated mismanagement.
We were repeatedly told before departure that the batch size would be around 40 pilgrims. In reality, the group exceeded 140 yatris. Many of the problems we faced appeared to stem directly from this decision.
From the beginning, we found ourselves waiting in long queues for almost everything. Accommodation, immigration, transportation, and daily logistics seemed unprepared for a group of this size. We were often left without information, guidance, or support.
One of the most difficult experiences was at immigration. We were called early in the morning and made to wait until late evening before receiving clearance. There was no proper seating arrangement, no meaningful assistance from the tour operator, and no refreshments despite the long wait. Pilgrims, including senior citizens, spent hours standing amidst traffic and exhaust fumes.
Accommodation arrangements were equally chaotic. At several locations there appeared to be insufficient rooms for the number of yatris. Room allocation became a daily struggle, creating unnecessary stress and conflict among pilgrims who had come seeking a spiritual experience.
Food quality and variety were consistently poor. Basic nutritional requirements for a physically demanding high-altitude pilgrimage seemed to have been overlooked. The overall impression was that cost-cutting had taken precedence over pilgrim welfare.
The most disappointing part of the journey occurred during the Parikrama. At Dirapukh, accommodation was reportedly unavailable for our group. Without a place to rest, recover, and prepare for the next day’s trek, many of us were effectively forced to abandon the remainder of the Parikrama and return. For a pilgrimage that many save and prepare for over years, this was heartbreaking.
The batch also witnessed serious medical emergencies and the tragic loss of a fellow yatri. Such incidents make proper planning, medical preparedness, and professional support even more critical. Unfortunately, those were precisely the areas where the operator appeared to fall short.
Kailash Mansarovar is one of the most sacred and challenging pilgrimages in the world. Pilgrims deserve honesty, preparedness, adequate support, and respect. Sadly, my experience with Max Holidays fell far short of those expectations.
I would strongly encourage prospective yatris to speak directly with members of recent batches before making their decision.
Beyond the logistical failures, this experience took a significant physical and mental toll on me. A pilgrimage like Kailash Mansarovar is already demanding due to the altitude, terrain, and weather conditions. Instead of being able to focus on the spiritual purpose of the journey, we were constantly dealing with uncertainty about accommodation, food, transportation, and basic support. The continuous stress, long hours of waiting, lack of proper rest, and poor arrangements left many of us physically exhausted and mentally drained. What should have been a once-in-a-lifetime spiritual experience became an ordeal of endurance caused not only by the harsh environment, but also by repeated failures in planning and execution.
BEWARE!!! Totally a scam company only after profits with least customer care!!!
We took an excursion with MAX on 25thMay-7th June for Kailash Manasarovar.I have never experienced such an unorganised trip ever. What was supposed to be a once in a lifetime spiritual journey became a nightmare we will never forget!
There were so many grievances that happened everyday of the trip,to list a few.
1. We were never informed which group we were in and ended up queing for hours with the wrong group at immigration, then being shouted at and rushed to join the right group who had gone ahead.
We had to wait 7 hrs at the border because the Tibet guides had not arrived on the otherside on time .
Permit details of two of our members were not organised correctly and were told rudely by Karma to go back which caused a lot of distress until the issue was sorted ,meanwhile the two members were separated from the group with 3 having crossed the border and no news for hours about what was happening to the remaining two on the other side, the company contact didn’t reply for hours and the number of the guide given came up as unavailable ,it was a stressful 3-4 hrs!
2.Many times on the trip hotel rooms were not organised prior to arrival and we had to always spend an hour or more before rooms were allocated with people scrambling over each other to get a room.
3.Many times during the trip the luggage arrived late sometimes after a day so had to be in dirty clothes without a change .
4.Food times were odd at times with breakfast served at 11 am and lunch at 1pm.At one time we got dinner at 11 pm.We personally experienced missing out on food as it run out 4 times!
5.We paid to go to Asthapad but the guide Karma forgot about us and remembered us only 40 mins after the others had left leading to us missing out on an important part of the pilgrimage.
6.On day 1 of the Kora we were promised one porter per person which on arrival became two people per porter yet full amount of money per person was taken. This arrangement caused our group to be dispersed and could not trek with my family but had to go with a stranger sharing my porter ,which was again distressing as altitude sickness affects many people and its scary to be without your friends or family around.
7..The company promised to provide oxygen which was never given and a group member who required oxygen from the guide carrying one turned out to be empty which could have led to fatality.
8.On reaching Deirapuk after Day1 trek
we were told there were no rooms available but had been told before the trek that rooms were booked. We had to sit on the floor after 7hrs of walking in cold ,after arguing due to frustration we were taken back down and discouraged from going on day2 trek.
Only 9 people out of 140 trekked day 2 and 3 which was the most frustrating as many many more would have done day two had they been rested and fed on time as per the itinerary!!!!
9.Months of fitness practice, about $3000 for the package ,$200 for a 3 day individual porter who became a shared porter only used for 1 day with no refund given for the 2 days that the company messed up on leading to circumstances that prevented us to carry on with the trek that we had planned for 6 months prior.
All resources of time, and money totally wasted due to a greedy company only caring about money and not the customers!!
Max Holidays turned our Kailash Mansarovar Yatra into survival trip/Squid games
A few of the points that I could immediately recollect have been put down here. We may need to articulate them more clearly
Pre Yatra Woes
1. No transparency of Itinerary despite requesting several times. It tantamounts to deliberate manipulation whenever the opportunity arises
2. Repeated confirmation from Max that the group size is around 30 and later we realised that we were 140 odd.
3. The Permits were stamped May 06, 2026 and on May 14, we were asked to cough up and additional Rs 4,800/- for express Visa processing. Another way of seeking additional money
During Yatra
1. Shortage of Jackets, Ponchos, Oxygen cylinders as promised by Vishal Gogia
2. Room shortage at Timure which led to sharing of spaces available
3. Chinese Guide was missing till 3 pm while we stood in the queue from 9 am. No arrangement for any refreshments, water etc while waiting.
4. No Max team member to negotiate/guide our case at the Immigration.
5. It appeared that a hype of 'room shortage' was an artificial scarcity built to ensure that we volunteer to share space among ourselves and thus allowing the opportunity for Karma - the Chinese guide to make money from the Hotel.
This was a universal phenomenon throughout all the places where we stayed the night.
6. Food was compromised throughout. We only got Poha, Upma, Uncooked potatoes, and Watery Daal, Toast without butter in the name of food. On enquiring with the Cooks, we were told that they have been instructed to keep cost down and hence all vegetables except potatoes were to be made.
7. Sharing of Porters - a recipe for sure disaster. This sharing led to the death of Mahendra from Silvassa who was deprived of Oxygen when he most needed it just because his 'shared' porter was at the pace of the other Yatri and not with Mahendra.
8. No space to stay in Dera Pukh. We were literally pushed out of Dera Pukh and asked to return to Darchen as there wasn't any space for any of us to spend the night.
9. No space to stay at Zithulpuk for the brave Yatris who undertook the 2nd day Parikrama.
It's important to note that many from our group would definitely have ventured for the 2nd day Parikrama had they been given a place to stay with warm blankets. With no place to rest and barely any food, venturing the 2nd day would have resulted in many more casualties.
10. Empty Oxygen cylinder provided by Max could have resulted in another tragedy near Zithulpuk with the 4 Brave hearts of Bhopal who managed to survive with no empty oxygen cylinders from Max
11. The return journey was even worse as we were with no support system from Max and were being treated like animals. On confronting Vishal directly, we realised that he had no clue of the state of affairs on the ground.
12. Our bus driver was instructed to drive with no stops for the rest of 6 hours to save on some money if we stopped (Max would have to provide for Tea, refreshments etc). He spilled the beans when he was confronted and said he was also desperate to take a bio break and also eat something.
13. Altercations for Room allocation was a way of every day life.
14. Poor uncooked food was another reality check lives on a daily basis
15. Uncouth illiterate staff of Richa Travels - one of the Companies that has been outsourced this business by Max without bothering to have at least a few representatives of Max to check on quality of service being delivered.
16. Max was just keen to make money to bring in the customer who was then sub leased to very poor companies known for cutting corners to save costs like Richa Travels.
Everyone was busy making money while we suffered every day of the Yatra.
Overbooking by Max holidays and mismanagement
We had to wait in long queues for everything. The reason told to us was increase in size of group from usual 40 to 140. The hotels were not booked in advance. At immigration we were called early in the morning and we were last to get permission late in the evening. There was no place to sit and we were surrounded by exhaust fumes from heavy traffic. No food was offered here. At Dirapukh...no place was available for our group to rest and relax for next day of yatra. We were forced to evacuate and discontinue our parikrama.
A Pilgrimage That Became a Fight for life
A Pilgrimage That Became a Fight for Survival
I travelled with Max Holidays for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra from 25th May to 7th June, expecting a professionally managed pilgrimage where safety, welfare, and support of pilgrims would be the highest priority. Unfortunately, my experience was the complete opposite.
What was supposed to be a deeply spiritual journey turned into one of the most traumatic and life-threatening experiences of my life.
Despite expectations of a well-organised pilgrimage, over 140 pilgrims were managed together, leading to confusion, delays, accommodation issues, communication failures, and a lack of proper coordination throughout the journey. At such extreme altitudes, poor planning is not merely an inconvenience—it can become a serious safety risk.
The most critical incident occurred during the first day of the Kora near Dirapuk at the North Face of Mount Kailash. My oxygen saturation level dropped to below 50%, resulting in a medical emergency. I had to be evacuated by ambulance and transported between medical facilities, first from the high-altitude region near Dirapuk and Darchen and eventually to Purang County, where the lower altitude helped stabilise my condition.
While altitude sickness is a known risk for anyone undertaking the Kailash Yatra, what is unacceptable is the lack of support, coordination, and preparedness when a genuine medical emergency occurs. During this critical situation, I had to personally bear the cost of ambulance transportation both ways.
What shocked me even more was the attitude shown afterwards. When my brother-in-law requested reimbursement of the ambulance expenses from the CEO, he allegedly responded that the amount was insignificant because we are NRIs and that it was “less than INR 5,000.” Regardless of the amount involved, such a response demonstrates a complete lack of empathy towards a pilgrim who had just survived a life-threatening medical emergency.
The problems did not end after I recovered. Once discharged, there was considerable confusion regarding how I was supposed to rejoin the group. There was no clear guidance, assistance, or logistical support provided. I had to arrange transportation and coordinate my return to Darchen at my own expense in order to reconnect with a group of 140 people. After going through such a serious health crisis, the last thing any traveller should have to worry about is organising their own rescue logistics and reintegration into the tour.
Throughout the trip, accommodation arrangements were chaotic, communication was poor, and many pilgrims were left uncertain about basic arrangements. At high altitudes where proper rest, nutrition, oxygen monitoring, and support are essential, this level of disorganisation is deeply concerning.
I joined this pilgrimage seeking spiritual fulfilment and inner peace. Instead, I found myself fighting for my life, being transferred between hospitals, paying emergency medical transport costs from my own pocket, and struggling to rejoin the tour without meaningful assistance from the organisers.
I am grateful to my brother in law, the medical professionals and local emergency responders who helped save my life. However, I cannot say the same about the support I received from the tour operator during and after the crisis.
I would strongly advise anyone considering a Kailash Mansarovar Yatra to carefully evaluate the operator’s emergency preparedness, medical support systems, group management capabilities, and commitment to customer welfare before making a booking. A pilgrimage of this nature requires professionalism, compassion, and accountability—qualities that I unfortunately did not experience during this journey.
This was not merely a disappointing travel experience; it was a life-threatening ordeal that could have had a very different outcome.
Max Holidays can ruin ur dream of Kailash Yatra
I traveled to Mount Kailash Yatra with max holidays on 25th May 2026.
Very huge group of 140 members which was not disclosed till we reached Kathmandu. Out of 140 only 7 of us could do Parikrama on giving lot of pressure & we were attached to other travels for our food & accommodation during day 2&3 Parikrama. One traveller lost his life on day 1 Parikrama, just because of lack of emergency oxygen which was promised to be provided by max. We were almost 70 people who were taken for Parikrama and only 4-5 rooms were booked at Dirapuk ( Day 1 Parikrama stay) leaving rest all in a hall with out accommodation in chilling whether which lead to emergency evacuation back to Darchen at night 1pm. This lead to many casualties needing oxygen for many travellers. For 140 members huge group only one Chinese guide. And very less managing staff. Food is average. Organisation is worst. I don’t suggest any one to opt max holidays or Kailash Manasarovar yatra. com for further bookings.
Our Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Ended in Injury, Chaos and Complete Negligence
I booked the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra through MAX Holidays believing I was entrusting my family to an experienced operator. It turned out to be one of the worst decisions I have ever made.
The most devastating incident occurred during the parikrama when we paid a substantial amount for a pony for my mother. Instead of receiving professional support, the pony handler acted irresponsibly, resulting in my mother falling from the pony and suffering serious injuries. Her pilgrimage ended immediately. What should have been a once-in-a-lifetime spiritual journey became a medical emergency.
What shocked us even more was the complete lack of concern shown afterwards. No meaningful support, no accountability, and no serious effort to assist an injured yatri. Throughout the trip, the focus seemed to be on extracting additional money rather than caring for pilgrims.
The accommodation promises made before booking were never delivered. Every stop seemed to involve confusion, room shortages, fights for beds, and uncertainty about basic arrangements.
The coordination between MAX Holidays, CIPS and the Tibetan ground team was a disaster. If you are travelling with elderly parents or anyone who may need assistance, think very carefully before booking. In remote high-altitude terrain, poor management is not merely inconvenient—it can become dangerous.
Kailash Mansarovar Yatra with Max Holidays
I booked Kailash Mansarovar Yatra with Max Holidays from May 25-June 07 along with 20 other known people, hoping that a company with 20 years of experience would handle the trip well.
Overall the trip has been handled very badly in terms of logistics and management due to which we could not complete the Parikrama and the trip experience has been sub-standard
Primary reasons is the size of the group of 140 people, while they had promised that group size would be in the range of 30-35. That was the biggest lie. Although they got permit and visa in batches containing 20-30 members, but they clubbed all of them together to be handled as a single group of 140+ members managed by just one single Tibetan guide and single kitchen. There were 3 Nepali guides but were not effective in managing. The chaos during hotel room allocation was like a fish market and the food queues were unmanageable.
Few salient points during the trip
- Our group of 140 reached China border near Timure for immigration between 7-8 pm Nepal time. We were the last group to be processed by immigration authorities starting at 6 pm till 8 pm China time. The Tibetan guide did not show up till late probably not happy with the large size of group, which he had commented later during the trip. To top it all, no breakfast, lunch was provided during the wait and we were just dumped into waiting for immigration process. This shows how a company with 20 years experience handles people once they have got all the money.
- finally after doing immigration we reached Kerung for stay. Getting the room keys was a nightmare. An efficient company would have done pre-work to know the preference of people wanting to stay together, and auto allocated the rooms. But no, they ensured that fighting for keys between 140 members was part of the experience they wanted to provide. This happened at almost all the places
- At all places it was felt that the Tibetan guide was looking for rooms indicating that the booking were not done in advance and the group size became so big that we sometimes had to share the rooms with 4-6 people.
- At Dirapuk after 1 day of Parikrama, this became even worse. Only few rooms available, with 10-12 people in one room with almost more that 50% of the people did not get any rooms and were staying in the hall. This was after a long trek of 13 kms when people were exhausted. It also resulted in an unfortunate death of one member during the trek.
- Imagine the state of people in terms of readiness for 2nd Parikrama knowing very well that there are no rooms available in Zuthulpukh. So our guide executed an evacuation back to Darchen cutting hopes for most of completely the Parikrama. Only 9 stayed back to do the Parikrama next day and it was not given as an option to others.
All I can say is Max knowingly took so many people just to make money without bothering about the logistics which was outsourced to Richa travels in Nepal. Other travel agencies I am aware of, refused booking because they wanted to limit group size. Also Max Holidays taking full money 2 months in advance is to ensure nobody can back out. They even asked for price escalation of ₹20000 which mostly payed. While the passport were send 3-4 weeks in advance they also asked for express visa processing fee, while they could have got visa processed under normal time. It was hoped that even after paying all this they would provide better service, but in reality it turned out to be worse. Other agencies took full amount only after the permits were granted.
My advise to future travellers is to choose travel agency who limit group size, are genuinely concerned about your well being and manages the trip in such a way that your are not fatigued. This being a high altitude trip most of the way, proper rest at each place is vey important.
Needless to say there is no way I will recommend Max Holidays for Kailash Mansarovar trip
A glaring example of digital media fraud - STAY AWAY !!
I went for Kailash Mansarovar yatra during May 25-June 7. This travel agent has run a criminal conspiracy along with International traffickers to intentionally mismanage our Yatra of about 140 Yatris so as to weaken our bodies. No rooms, no food, no guides, continuous humiliation, and making us fight even for basics. We were not left with physical readiness or mental peace and we were forced to curtail our Yatra to Day 1, minimising operators' expenses. This criminal conspiracy resulted into an unfortunate death of a young traveller along with medical emergencies for several others. On day 1 of the on foot yatra, I had to speak to Chinese police officials myself and get some of sick Yatris sent back because there was no support available from Max. In fact, they had sold entire set of 140+ Yatris to some shady operator based in Nepal. One of the medical emergencies, which I witnessed on 4th June itself was definitely going to turn into another tragedy had the Indian High Commission not intervened. IF YOU LOVE YOUR LIFE, STAY AWAY FROM MAX. Join the WA group of these KMY YATRIS and get the TRUE feedback yourself.
Our Kailash Mansarovar Yatra with Max Holidays
Our Kailash Mansarovar Yatra with Max Holidays was extremely disappointing due to poor planning, mismanagement, and broken promises.
Before the trip, we were told that the group size would be around 25–30 people. However, when we reached Kathmandu, we discovered that the actual group size was around 140 people. From that point onwards, everything felt chaotic and unorganized.
The journey from Kathmandu to Timure was uncomfortable because the company tried to fill every bus seat despite knowing that the road conditions made the back seats almost unusable. Even their own Sherpas were reluctant to sit there.
When we arrived in Timure, there was no proper hotel arrangement. Pilgrims had to rush and compete for rooms. At the Nepal-China border, we spent an entire day waiting without proper food, water, or support because the guide did not arrive until evening. Other tour operators had arranged packed lunches and refreshments for their groups, but we were left to manage on our own.
After reaching Kyirong in China late in the evening, the problems continued. Dinner was delayed, and once again there were arguments over room allocations. Almost every destination involved uncertainty, confusion, and last-minute arrangements. We were repeatedly told that rooms were scarce, but it became clear that nothing had been planned properly in advance.
The attitude of the management was also disappointing. Once the full payment had been collected, communication became rude and dismissive. We were often told things like, “At least you are getting something,” despite having paid a significant amount and being promised a well-organized pilgrimage.
Additional services such as porters and ponies were heavily overpriced. Many services that should have been arranged in advance were not. In several cases, porters were shared between pilgrims, which is extremely difficult in the harsh Kailash conditions where proper support is essential.
Most concerning was the lack of medical support. A doctor had been promised, but adequate medical assistance was not available when needed. Due to poor planning and support, one pilgrim unfortunately lost his life during the journey. This was heartbreaking and raised serious concerns about the operator's commitment to safety.
Instead of feeling like valued pilgrims on a spiritual journey, we often felt like we were being moved from one place to another without proper care, planning, or respect. The constant stress, uncertainty, and frustration prevented us from fully focusing on the spiritual purpose of the yatra.
I strongly advise anyone planning a Kailash Mansarovar Yatra to carefully choose their tour operator. Look for a company that maintains smaller groups, plans properly, prioritizes safety, and treats pilgrims with dignity and care.
Based on my experience, I would never recommend Max Holidays.
Max tour and travel had provided us…

Impressive 24 hour 7 day support
Frequent updates on itinerary to accommodate requests. Impressed with very quick upgrade of car and immediate response to change accommodation on last leg of the tour due to weather conditions. We would also like to highly praise and recommend the driver Dharmendra - his experience in driving round blind cliff edge hair pin bends is amazing. Our heartfelt thanks to Vishal for personally stepping in when necessary. To Vidhushi - Keep up the good work and many thanks once again- Har Har Mahadev.
14 day West Mediterranean holiday package
I just returned from a14 day West Mediterranean holiday package with a 3 day Barcelona stay and 8 day MSC cruise to Marseilles France, Genoa, Naples Italy, Messina Sicily and Valletta Malta. Being a solo traveller I was a little nervous. I didn't have to worry, everything that was organised went to plan perfectly. I would definitely book another holiday without any hesitation and would highly recommend Holidaymax for your next holiday.

Great tour planned by Vidushi at Max…
Great tour planned by Vidushi at Max travels. All I did was to let her know that we wanted to do Kashi Vishwanath temple and Prayagraj before our Kailash mansarovar tour. Vidushi arranged everything flights, airport pickup and transfer to the hotel. The driver and guide were polite and friendly and helpful. I would recommend Max travels to anyone who wants to enjoy hassle free tours. Thanks Vidushi.

Don't use them dodgy and greedy will keep every cent they can.
Max Holidays provided us excellent…
Max Holidays provided us excellent hospitality and were extremely helpful throughout the trip. The highlight was the morning and afternoon jungle safari. The hotels booked for our stay were at excellent location and rendered best services. The trip went flawless, big thanks to Max Team!!
I recommend Max Holidays to all with no hesitation.
Yes, undoubtedly Max Holidays India is one of the best option you may get to book your travel to holy Kailash mount and Lake Mansarovar. Their attention to pilgrims, their health and safety is far far better than the other tour companies. Choosing Indian operator over a Nepalese agent is always a better idea and choosing Max will turn to be your best decision, if you talk about touring to Kailash. We also booked Muktinath Temple travel after coming back from Kailash and the services were flawless. Thanks to the owner of the Company Mr. Gogia for his personalised attention in the hours of need. I recommend Max Holidays to all with no hesitation.
I give Max Holidays 9.7 out of 10 marks
I took a 12 days long travel to North India with Max Holidays for myself and my family in 2018 and I was completely satisfied with thier services. Their team, guides and drivers are great help to you. Their knowledge is great and you can completely rely on their services. I given them 9.7 out of 10, if anyone asks me so.
Beware of MaxHolidays.com or kailash-yatra.org
I completed Kailash Yatra in Aug 2017 through Max Holidays. Their service is ok (2.5 stars out of 5) until we reached Nepalgunj in Nepal. After this point, they don't have any control of the Kailash Yatra trip. This is very unfortunate to know in the middle of the trip. They hand over their customers to one person beyond Nepalgunj. This person doesn't care about our itinerary in regards to important dates (full-moon dharshan kailash darshan) and quality of hotel (Most of the time they give bad quality hotels). The person in charge seems to not even represent MaxHolidays. When we question him for any unnecessary change in itinerary , he asked us to call MaxHolidays for clarification. When we called MaxHolidays, they didn't respond to our phone calls beyond Nepalgunj. POOR POOR service.
