Dont waste your time and money.

Had relationship counselling when my partnership was on the brink of separation. We separated completely after our first together-session with our counsellor. She pitted us against each other and took sides. A good counsellor will challenge clients if they are trying to get them to see another perspective; she was just confrontational. It caused so many more arguments and tension between me and partner. We had one more session and decided she was unprofessional and making things worse. She made us into enemies. Was far too strongly opinionated in how we parented our daughter and even mum-shamed me at one point. We are now stronger than ever after we left Relate and joined a different service with a much better counsellor.

I had a counsellor who I didn't click with, really didn't understand or help me. I think this may just be a problem of differing personalities or whatever. But when I tried to change counsellor after 7/8 sessions they cancelled my sessions with the existing one, and just told me I might not be allowed to change after so many lessons. So now I have no counsellor, and every time I ring they say I'll have to wait and see. To be clear, I'm not waiting for them to find a counseller, which I know can take time, I'm waiting to be told if I'm even allowed to change - but they've already cancelled my previous sessions. I'm deeply unhappy at this service

took the test to see if i am compatible with my partner and oh wow the results are so accurate that it made me feel so vulnerable🥹 it’s very true that i have quite similar views but when we disagree on things i tend to stay quiet and not really speak up because i tend to avoid problems and i’m not confident enough to speak up. i don’t know what to do about it yet but i guess i need to work on it.

Really helpful toolkits on relationship audit and deciding to get married. Me and my partner have found them very useful for supporting us in discussing things, looking at the strengths in oir relationship and celebrating them, as well as being able to be open about challenges. And the kits are amazingly good value at £20 each.

I was googling and currently doing some research on trial separation, may be leading to separation for a friend ( Known him since my school days) with 2 children over 9 years going to private school .

Sent a message to relate as myself and my partner purchased the same pack by mistake, I emailed to ask if I could get a link to the other one. But there was no response.

Ordered online resources and the wrong one arrived due to a tech glitch. Spent hours on the phone trying to get the right information and two days later they sent another incorrect info. No response to my email outlining the error - waste of time and money for online self help resources

This service is offering practical and relevant information for a variety of relationship and personal issues and situations. Very happy with the service.

Got my second session booked. Nobody showed up, waited 15minsin zoom room. No showed and no explanation. Chased this up, relate apologised, offered refund but have an elongated refund policy I assume to deter the refund, involving emailing multiple addresses, completing forms and sending back. You wasted my time already why are you still wasting it. I can see why the NHS no longer affiliate with this company

I did some sessions for quite some time with a reviewed therapist on here. Her name was Martina Bador. She broke confidentiality and was very careless. Ive been extremely unwell for many years because of this. This company needs a lot of improving:(

My partner and I sought out Relate for couples counselling, hoping to gain deeper insights into our relationship dynamics in a time of crisis. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing and left us questioning the effectiveness of their approach.

The therapist felt robotic and disengaged, making little effort to explore underlying issues or facilitate meaningful dialogue. Despite having individual 1:1 sessions before our joint ones, there was no apparent continuity or relevance between what we discussed individually and what was covered together. The questions during the 1:1 sessions were mechanical and seemed to serve no real purpose, as nothing carried over into the joint sessions.

Both of us have experienced quality psychotherapy in the past, and this was not it. A good therapist probes, challenges, and guides you to new insights — but here, it felt like the therapist was simply “on the clock,” asking routine, surface-level questions without genuine curiosity or depth.

Adding to the frustration, the customer service was also poor. Our sessions ended abruptly, and we were left with a sense of unresolved confusion. Unfortunately, this experience did not meet our expectations or needs, and we cannot recommend Relate based on what we encountered.
