The Best Western The Grand Hotel, Hartlepool

Although the hotel’s main entrance is locked and guests need a key card to gain access, I was disappointed by what I felt was a lack of security during my stay.

On the night my colleague and I were staying, the only staff member on duty informed us that there was an intruder in the hotel who had gained access to the room next door to mine. Naturally, this left me feeling extremely unsafe and frightened, particularly as the room was immediately adjacent to mine. The staff member explained that it was possible the individual had been given a key card by another hotel employee, which made the situation even more concerning.

What was equally alarming was that there appeared to be no immediate attempt to contact the police. Before my colleague and I returned to our rooms, I had to ask the staff member to check both of our rooms to ensure the intruder was not inside. We were then advised to lock the door, put the security chain on, barricade the door if possible, and, if anyone managed to enter our room, to call 999. I found this advice to be completely unprofessional and inadequate. Rather than taking steps to resolve the situation, the responsibility for our safety seemed to be placed on us as guests.

As a result, I spent the rest of the night unable to sleep, feeling anxious and constantly worried that someone might try to enter my room.

I was also surprised that, despite being told my colleague and I were the only two guests staying on that floor, we had been allocated rooms several doors apart rather than close together. Given the circumstances, it would have made far more sense to accommodate us in neighbouring rooms.

While I appreciate that the staff member was honest and kept us informed, this incident raised serious concerns about the hotel’s security procedures, emergency response, and overall commitment to guest safety. No guest should be left feeling this vulnerable or be advised to barricade themselves inside their room while an intruder remains in the building. I hope the hotel urgently reviews its key card management, security protocols, staffing levels, and procedures for responding to incidents like this to ensure future guests are kept safe.

Car parking cameras installed not there on my first visit earlier in year after scanning our receipt was scanned i left the store and have since received parking charge notice I sent them a bank debit statement showing purchase online but they ignored it and are aggressively demanding payment pursuing charges .I have since contacted the company with the same prove I am awaiting a response

To 'Reviews' website, a suggestion. To avoid situations like mine where I wanted to review a company but it did not send me a review request (for obvious reasons), provide this option. Provide the option to request a review link via your website and should the company in question deny the request, YOU give the person requesting it the option to provide proof to yourselves they were a client of the company. If proven, YOU then provide that person a link to submit a review. It may help bring the ratings on your website of companies like Rightio, in line with other review websites.

‘Massaged’ reviews and star rating.

Run this search on the internet “can one submit a review in reviews dot co dot uk” (replace the " dot " with ".") and I think you will see how a shady company like Rightio, is able to have a good star rating on reviews . co . uk.

(I personally have had the same experience with Google Reviews where my bad review of a roofing company, “disappeared”. I was not allowed to put it back on and Google froze my account and locked me out after I complained to them, even though I provided all the paper documents and photos as evidence. Rightio did NOT send me a request to review them, so I’m not going to waste my time submitting one without first getting the “verified” request email even then I think it will "disappear" because it will be a bad review. This is why I stick with Trustpilot.)

Background: Rightio came to service our gas boiler on 03-11-2025. The engineer walked in, took the cover off and immediately just by looking at it, said he will condemn the boiler. He did not run any tests and the boiler still looks brand new and runs without any problems. He said he would not condemn the boiler IF I buy a new Gloworm boiler from him and he install it. I call that blackmail! There is a lot more that happened, all bad.

I had a look into how it can be that a company like this, can have a claimed 4.77/4.8 out of 5 star rating from over 2911 reviews on reviews.co.uk, as advertised on their own website, but bad ratings on other review websites. I looked at the reviews they link to on reviews.co.uk and noticed they are still getting 5 star reviews even though it has not been possible for me a customer, to contact them since 04-11-2025. I have only been able to get hold of them today (02-12-2025) when someone answered one of their many phone numbers. That is suspicious to me. FYI. They recognised my phone number because the guy today knew who I was as soon as he answered, I think that is how they were able to block me from getting hold of them.

One gets a different (true and realistic) view of Rightio when you look at their star rating and read reviews on other review websites.

Trustpilot: 3.4 out of 5 however, but read the reviews. Even some of the non 1 or 2 star reviews, complain about the company. I think they mistakenly clicked on a higher star rating.
www . sitejabber . com: 1.3 out of 5. The same (scam) tactic happened to me as many of the reviewers on this website reported. Only at this time, Rightio used the website and name “plumber . rightio . co . uk”, but it is the same guy on the photo on that website, as is on the add in our local Stockbridge pamphlet.

It turns out that the “excellent” reviews referred to on their add and website, may be false ("massaged") because on other review websites, this company has a lot of very bad reviews.

If websites like reviews . co . uk are enabling rogue traders to delete or suppress bad reviews (and it does seem like it to me and reviews), then they are enabling criminals to operate and get away with it.

Asked Confused.com to find quotes for car insurance and although I will not be using tis service I was asked to provide a review of Confused.com by Reviews.co.uk.

The email did not actually have any clickable link to rate from. Considering they only had one job and failed at this, I rate them a one star and Confused.com, yeah, you should be if that's the quality of your partners.

First time using NAC and will not be the last. Needed a quick call out as my gas cooker had stopped working. I was contacted by a very friendly and professional Engineer and visit arranged. The call was excellent, price etc was explained from the beginning and job carried out efficiently and cleanly. Cooker up and working no problem.

Contacted HDS for repair to tv aerial system this morning. Arrived within specified 1 hour. Contacted to inform of their arrival. Engineer introduced himself, hello I'm Curtis. Very pleasant person. Curtis was informed of the problems with the system. Checked all areas. System up and running 100%. Curtis cleaned all areas of dust.
Thank you Curtis for your excellent workmanship. If I could give you 6 stars I would.

Posted a negative review of Origin sliding doors. Uploaded pictures of the fault but they did not appear in the review. Review cannot be edited. Response from company cannot be replied to. Very inferior to Trustpilot IMHO.

I contacted cbdomestics Ltd in Salisbury for a washing machine repair and from the call to a really helpful lady I spoke to on the phone to book the appointment to Paul who did a fantastic job fixing the machine it was an outstanding customer service experience.
I called on Saturday morning and the machine was fixed by 9am on the Monday morning.

The rose arrived safely in a cardboard container. The rose was then packaged in polythene and was in very good condition. It has now been planted in a large pot in the garden. All good.

Excellent service and really professional and quick to sort out any issues great communication through out.
