My son has been doing rocksteady for over 3 years, it has been a great experience for him, he has learnt to play different instruments and has grown in confidence, especially when he performs in his concerts.

Poor experience with billing not…
Update: Following the company response, it has now been clarified that the remaining £10 credit was intended to be applied against a future payment. However, as my subscription has since been cancelled, it remains unclear how this outstanding amount will be refunded.
Poor experience with billing not reflecting the service provided.
I was charged £44.68 on the 1st of the month for what is normally a package of 4 lessons. However, only 2 lessons were scheduled for that month, despite the full monthly fee still being taken.
This was during a period where the school had already confirmed they would be ending their arrangement with Rocksteady Music School at the end of the academic year, yet the level of service had already reduced.
There were also instances of last-minute cancellations, with assurances that lessons would be made up and reviewed at the end of term. However, from my experience, this did not result in a clear or timely resolution.
In addition, a £20 refund had previously been agreed, but only £10 was actually paid, leaving £10 still outstanding.
I raised these issues directly but did not receive a proper resolution and ultimately had to go through my bank under the Direct Debit Guarantee to recover the overpayment.
Based on my experience, the billing did not align with the service delivered, particularly during a period of reduced provision and cancellations. I would strongly recommend that other parents carefully check how many lessons are actually being provided compared to what they are being charge

Thank you for your feedback and we do apologise that your Rocksteady experience hasn't been the positive one we aim to provide.
Your monthly direct debit spreads the total cost for the academic year evenly across 11 equal payments, with no payment taken in August. This is because the number of lessons available each month varies depending on school holidays and bank holidays, so the subscription evens this out rather than charging per lesson. Across the academic year, this guarantees a minimum of 33 lessons in total, including termly concerts.
We're also very sorry for any disruptions to your child's band lessons this term. Whenever a band leader is unable to teach, we will always look to arrange a cover teacher to minimise disruption to your child's lessons, but unfortunately this isn't always possible. To make up for this, a £20 credit has been issued to your account which has been allocated against your regular May and June direct debit payments - therefore you can expect the second £10 credit to come off your next payment.

My son has been doing rocksteady for 2 years and Thursday was his favourite day of the week as his lesson was on Thursday. Unfortunately, we had to drop him out because of some situations but I would recommend it. And his teacher Will was so nice and friendly.

Rocksteady has been amazing for bits of…
Rocksteady has been amazing for both of our children, they are both autistic, and will has been incredible for them,he's kind, considerate and understanding and teaching them at a pace they are both happy with.
They have grown in themselves, and in confidence with others aswell, and have made some fantastic friends in their bands.
Highly recommended if your children are quite and withdrawn from social interactions, this helps they to grow in so many ways.

I have observed that my son has greatly benefited from learning the drums and being part of a rock group, which has notably enhanced his confidence. I can’t rate rocksteady enough
I can’t rate rocksteady enough. Communication is fast and friendly. No bombarding. Paulie’s teacher is amazing with him. I never in a million years would have expected Paulie to get up on his own in front of his whole school after like four sessions but the encouragement was gentle enough he did it and am a proud mum.

Great, positive introduction to Music.
My daughter has been attending Rocksteady for over a year and she loves it! It's really helped her confidence and she's in the same band as her friends so they all have fun together. Dan, the instructor is great with all the children and it's the only school club my daughter has wanted to attend for longer than a term. She's also recently achieved a Trinity College certificate which feels really special, especially at 5 years old.

I've been paying for my son to learn…
I've been paying for my son to learn how to play the keyboard for a year now at nearly £50 per month. I got a keyboard out of the spare room last weekend and a music book to go with it. He looked horrified. He's never seen musical notes and asked what they were. Just what have this company been teaching my son for the past year?. It seems they pick a some and teach the children different parts of songs with different instruments and then put them together to do a performance.
There isn't any instrument learning at all. Don't waste your money. It honestly isn't worth it.

Rocksteady teaches children to play music together as a band by focusing on fundamentals such as timing and synchronisation, alongside introducing instrument technique and performance skills. This approach teaches music as a language through listening and playing, rather than through traditional music theory or notation, which is what makes it accessible and engaging for all children - regardless of previous musical experience.
By learning alongside their bandmates, children not only build musical skills but also develop confidence, teamwork and social skills that go well beyond the instrument itself. Working through a unique curriculum of up to 300 instrumental, musicianship and performance skills, all Rocksteady children also have the opportunity to achieve an exam-free music qualification, accredited by Trinity College London.

unprofessional and not consistent experience
band leaders consistently fail to attend the classes leading to them having to be rescheduled and provided by cover teachers. they definitely don't progress as much as they could and then you have the leader saying they didn't have much opportunity to practice when they do their shows. Very unprofessional. nice for kids to have a first contact with the different instruments but don't expect more than that.

Whenever a band leader is unable to teach, we do everything we can to arrange cover to minimise disruption and ensure bands feel prepared and confident for their end of term concerts.
Our dedicated cover band leaders are extensively trained to pick up a class at short notice and deliver lessons in line with Rocksteady's unique curriculum, so children can continue to enjoy the high-quality band lessons they're used to - unfortunately it isn't always possible to arrange this cover and we're so sorry for any missed lessons this academic year.

My Grandson has been part of Rock…
My Grandson has been part of Rock Steady for some while.
He throughly enjoys it and loves performing in the end of term concerts when we as parents/carers get a chance to see all his progress as do all the children and teachers at school, it’s always a happy event!
The tutor Jacob is particularly brilliant and his enthusiasm, encouragement, support and care for the students is particularly outstanding!
He commands respect without any need for unnecessary firmness as he engages the children in such a way they remain focused.
I find Rock Steady a company easy to deal with and quick to respond if I have a query.

My daughter attends Rocksteady, she’s gained so much confidence during this time outside and inside school all her teachers noticed the difference in her. Tom has been incredible with helping my daughter with her nerves when she is performing he has an amazing way with the kids and I cannot fault his energy that he brings for all the kids.

Rocksteady truly go above and beyond in…
Rocksteady truly go above and beyond in helping children grow in confidence through playing in a band. It’s become something my kids genuinely look forward to every single week.
After years of being part of the programme, I recently experienced some financial hardship and reached out to customer services. They were incredibly understanding and supportive, offering a bursary until the end of term. This made an unbelievable difference to my children’s wellbeing and meant they didn’t have to miss out on something they love.
I’m so grateful for their kindness and commitment; not just to music, but to the children and families they support. Highly recommend!

Learning something they want to learn!
My son has been going to RockSteady sessions since January - he missed the first term due to needing some surgeries. Customer service was amazing, they were kind and caring, and refunded our tuition fees without us even asking - they called to check up on our son’s progress before restarting our direct debit. Now to the sessions - our son loves them! he’s not just learning lyrics and how to perform them, he’s made new friends, he’s learning how to work with the rest of the band for the best sounds, he’s learning to listen (!!) and he’s learnt to believe in himself! We watched our first concert today - all of the bands did amazingly, the energy of the teacher (Duncan), the smile on their face watching their bands perform and they way they communicated with each child totally warmed my heart! Our son and his band were up last, and to see our boy and his friends loving performing and oozing with confidence is so nice - school is hard, the pressures of growing up are hard, and this gives them all the freedom to be themselves, and to learn something because they want to learn it… Highly recommend!!
