I had a great afternoon at SGGT with James for driver and fairway fitting. The facility is fantastic and such a wide choice of heads and shafts to try. James is very thorough and narrowed down the right shaft and then tried different head combinations to refine the fit.

Clubs were ready pretty quick given they are custom ordered and built. Seeing behind the scenes of the build is also great.

Great experience and well worth it. Looking forward to seeing more fairways and better scoring this year.

TLDR; If you are thinking of buying new clubs, then I strongly recommend SGGT to you. It's an excellent business with great personnel and a huge range of heads, shafts and grips so you can find the right combination under their expert guidance.

Recently retired, (age 66, 14 hcp) I found myself with much more time to play and enjoy golf. After many years of using old, second-hand clubs to keep costs down (and there's nothing wrong with that I should say), I decided, as a retirement gift to myself, to commit to a proper fitting process to get brand new clubs that suited my swing and my game requirements. I had often wondered whether buying the latest golf technology and having it properly fitted would make a difference to my game and overall enjoyment of golf (the answer is YES by the way). After doing a fair amount of research on the web, and speaking to fellow golfers, SGGT seemed to be the best-equipped place to go for a fitting. Over several sessions I was fitted for new irons, driver, wood and hybrid. Scott Fraser (iron fitting) and James Wilson (driver, wood, hybrid fitting) were very welcoming and put me at my ease at each session. They made sure they understood what I wanted from new clubs and that I was happy with the outcome each time. I am now playing with and getting used to my new clubs and I can safely say there is a massive difference (in distance, dispersion and forgiveness) compared to my old ones. For that I must give sincere thanks to the guys at SGGT.

A few key points:

* Buying fitted clubs is NO MORE EXPENSIVE than buying them off the shelf.
* You will have a HUGE CHOICE of heads/shafts/grips instead of being limited to the retailer's standard clubs with stock shafts/grips.
* Yes, buying the very latest is expensive but if you really want to give yourself the best chance to play your best golf, you might as well get properly fitted rather than buying off the shelf.
* Club fitting is for EVERYONE, not just young low-handicappers or professionals.

Final word: I spent nearly £3000 (ouch) at SGGT but I don't regret it for a second. Best money I've spent in a very long time.

From initially booking my fitting with Johnny & then having my iron fitting with Aaron i could not fault anything, really friendly & unhurried whilst having my fitting, after trying various different iron brands & shafts options with Aaron we decided on the Srixon zxi5 irons & a Srixon zxi hybrid, I have since received my irons but alas have not been able to try out but this coming weekend i will be trying out on my local 9 hole course, again I would like to thank Aaron & all the staff @ Sggt.

From entering the building to leaving they were friendly, professional and very skillful. Iron fitting was relaxed and humorous and wasn't rushed. Even got a few swing tips thrown in (thanks Scott). The trackman data and visual proof from hitting shots confirmed the right head/shaft combination for me. This combined with some swing adjustments resulted in a significant improvement to dispersion/grouping and distance. I even got a demo of a shaft SST Puring. Looking forward to returning for my wedges and woods fitting. Interestingly, my investment was actually very reasonable considering the full spec over buying off the shelf somewhere esle.

I had a fitting for a driver with James at SGGT in Edinburgh at the start of February and it was a great experience. The setup and facilities at SGGT were brilliant and I actually received the new driver within 8 days of the fitting.

James was very knowledgeable as well as good craic! Most of the session was focused on finding the ideal shaft for my swing and for me, that is the best and most important part of the fitting process as the standard choices available from a local golf pro or retail store may be far from suitable for you. This is why visiting a specialist such as SGGT could be incredibly beneficial and with them also being able to offer many brands, the ideal combination can be sourced. James certainly managed to find that for me.

I will certainly be back when it comes to any future club changes.

2 fittings recently with Scott which were superb. Great facilities and set up; a distinct feeling of being in safe hands and a great service post fitting for receiving the clubs. Scott was spot on in terms of approach, advice and understanding what I wanted and most crucially needed (best to go in with an open mind). Highly recommend and would say the only place to get a fitting.

James did a great job fitting me into my new clubs, process with easy and enjoyable.

It’s a great facility, with modern studios but it would be nothing without the skills of the fitters. Golf is hard enough without using equipment that wasn't suitable for me but now I'm very pleased with the driver that I've purchased. I'm looking forward to collecting it.

This was my first fitting experience with SGGT (driver) but it won't be my last.

I returned to SGGT, Chesterfield 3 months after my irons only 5star fitting experience with Laurence where previously he had dialled me into a specific shaft and choice of 2 heads allowing me to make the final decision based upon performance and my personal preference. Yes there was the cost of new bespoke irons, but they made an immediate improvement on course which matched the trajectory, hight, distance data from the fitting.
So I had to make the 3 hour trip back to see Laurence to asses my wedges, driver & fairways to finish off the bag.
Before starting the new fit, Laurence double checked my irons to ensure they were built as spec'd by him, which they were.
However, the weight, lie & loft of my wedges (fitted elsewhere) were not correct, he made the required adjustments, resulting in perfectly fitting wedges so no need to change.
He also adjusted my Driver to optimise performance, which could then not be bettered, so again no need to change.
Fairway heads required some tweeking, but a change of shaft resulted in improved performance plus an additional fairway for better gapping.
I could have come out of this fitting with new wedges, new driver and 3 new fairways.
However due to the professionalism, experience, knowledge and honesty of Laurence @ SGGT I came away purchasing only 2 new shafts plus 1 new fairway, which saved me thousands.
From my previous experiences this would not happen everywhere else?
Once again thank you to Laurence & SGGT as since my last fitting I have played 4 times resulting in my 4 best rounds of the year, at 72 I'm in love with golf once again.

Had an 0800, cold, early morning driver fitting today with James in Edinburgh. Really fantastic experience and a great fitter. Neither my technique, the time, nor the cold air were helping the ball fly but still he managed to get me +20yds distance but more importantly 60% tighter dispersion - and he made it enjoyable. I know the stats as when I got home I had an email that they had already set up with a trackman account for me where I could go through all options I tried and see the shots. Is the total price more expensive than one of the big golf shops? Yes, a bit, but you get 2 hours of expert knowledge, focused on your swing, from an expert who really knows what he's doing, trying all the best equipment available on the market in a state of the art facility. Plus the club I bought has a custom shaft (that works), a custom grip, the shaft is "pured" as well. If anything, if you count all that as services (and I do) it feels cheaper than the big retail stores where it can be hit and hope. Here, you actually get a product that works many time better. More importantly, they are a lovely group of people, they made me and my wife very welcome and I can honestly say I won't be buying any clubs off the shelf again.

Fitting with James last week. Great guy to deal with and very knowledgeable. Enjoyable experience from start to finish. Wouldn't hesitate in recommending. Bit more expensive than picking of the shelf at your local golf store but choice of shafts and clubs to get you custom fit is vast. All staff great to deal with and very customer orientated.

Had a fitting with Lawrence yesterday in chesterfield and the whole experience from start to finish was incredible. No stone left unturned and no rushing to fit the next customer in. Had irons and wedges fitted and honestly cannot recommend enough. Even Jordan popping in and having a chat created a really friendly environment. I guess fitters are a bit like coaches (and wives) when you find the one you stick with them. I certainly won’t be going anywhere else from now on. Thank you Gents top guys who know their stuff and a pleasure to see you work.

Had a full bag fitting with Aaron at the Edinburgh base. Absolutely incredible experience! Aaron a top guy and so knowledgeable about all the different products. Excited now for the new clubs to arrive. Will never go anywhere else for clubs again.

The fitting process at SGGT is undoubtedly thorough although i never received video or specification of driver fitting as promised. My fitting for a driver with Jordan costs £100. However, the real-world performance benefits, especially for a driver, do not justify the substantial financial investment of £800+ with a mid-range shaft. Despite the comprehensive fitting, the actual performance gains I experienced from the driver fitting were negligible.

The cost of the driver, at over £800 plus, seems excessive compared to the performance benefits. Furthermore, there are hidden costs in the form of the club head, grip none stock, shaft, and delivery that aren’t immediately apparent during the initial consultation.

When comparing this to the prices of a driver directly from TaylorMade, there is a significant markup even for a high-specification driver. Most manufacturers offer customization services for their drivers. For example, the TaylorMade Qi10 Max Designer Series, refined by TaylorMade’s designers, is significantly cheaper at £529 for a fully customized version.

This stark difference in pricing raises serious questions about SGGT’s pricing strategy and whether the added costs are truly justified by the product and service quality. The disparity in cost-effectiveness becomes even more evident when considering that established manufacturers like TaylorMade provide similar or superior customization services at a much lower price point. SGGT’s offerings, despite their fitting process, do not seem to provide a proportional increase in value or performance benefits. For many golfers, the marginal gains achieved through SGGT’s fitting process do not justify the significantly higher expenditure.

I had also booked a 5-wood and 3-wood fitting, but as SGGT doesn't stock the TaylorMade Q10 Tour fairway models and charges a further £75 per session, I've cancelled these. It simply does not warrant the outlay and there is no point trying clubs I do not wish to purchase.

The initial allure of a bespoke fitting quickly fades when faced with the reality of hidden costs. The high costs at SGGT are difficult to justify. In contrast, purchasing directly from established manufacturers presents a more transparent, economical, and satisfactory alternative.

In conclusion, while SGGT offers a thorough fitting experience and fitting fees back when you purchase from SGGT, the cost-effectiveness of the services, particularly for drivers, warrants careful consideration. For me, the marginal gains do not justify the higher expenditure compared to purchasing directly from established manufacturers.

Had an excellent driver fitting experience with Laurence at Chesterfield site and was amazed at the amount of different shafts they stocked. I wasn’t rushed at all and Laurence explained everything about the process, showing all the shot information and advising on how the different shafts affect the ball flight.
I was advised that my driver could take 3-4 weeks to be built and delivered. 4 days later and I’ve had an email to say my parcel should be delivered tomorrow. What a great service. Well done to everyone at SGGT. I will be returning when I’m due some new clubs.

I was fitted for new irons earlier this year by Scott Fraser, then by James Wilson for a new driver this month.
Both were fantastic experiences with surprising, to me, results. No more taking a chance buying off the shelf or eBay.
Scott and James both took time to understand my game, my swing, and my 'wants'. They quickly identified what would work for me but still gave me options to refine things and get the most out of my ability. They even let me try things that I thought would work for me - which only proved that I really did need their guidance.
I ended up with shafts in my irons and driver that I could not have tried or selected without visiting SGGT.
I've shared my experience with golfing partners and would encourage anybody, at any standard, to pay the team a visit and get the best possible set up for your own game.
I'm delighted with my new irons and driver, and had my lowest score in two years on my new driver's first round this week (75 at Baberton if anyone cares). I'm also down to my lowest WHI since last May (6.7). Much (but not all 😉) of the credit goes to Scott and James for their guidance.
But just to warn the team at SGGT Scotland - I'll be back for woods and wedges at some point this year 😉

I was a stubborn mid handicapper who'd been hitting second hand extra stiff Titleist MB's and hoping to one day get consistent enough with them. However the years flew by and I was still clinging onto that hope.

After my clubs got slightly damaged while travelling, I decided to go for my first fitting. Scott knew right away I was no where near consistent enough to justify MBs and I was needlessly punishing myself and my scores. After trying a variety of shafts and club heads, I was quite set on Titleist clubs again. Frustratingly my swing halfway through the session turned to mush and after a run of shanks providing no data to go from, Scott offered to pause the fitting and resume at future date while handing me some impact tape to take away.

When I came back later I was swinging more freely again, and I could not argue with the data. My MBs fantasy went out the window, and the focus was on how the Titleist T100 and T150's felt with different shafts. I'm now a very satisfied owner of Titleist T100's set one degree flat, along with a boost of confidence. Many thanks to Scott for his patience and SGGT with my follow up, I highly recommend them.

I eventually bit the bullet and visited SGGT for an iron fitting and wish I’d had done it years ago. Straight away Scott knew what I needed and after watching a few strikes with my old set. Walked out with P770’s with a shaft which is delivering exactly what I wanted. Easy ball striking with height and without loss of any distance.
