A steep learning curve but it got easier and overall it was a positive experience
It was very good to have a link to a video as I watched it 3 times and took notes on the second viewing. My notes were invaluable. Being told how everything worked would have been much less useful as I'd have forgotten a lot of it. You should keep using the video once Covid restrictions preventing a face to face handover are relaxed.
I was on a very steep learning curve and having to drive such a large vehicle and get used to so many different things was quite stressful at first. However, it got much easier as the week progressed and everything became more familiar.
Overall it was a positive experience and I am now looking to buy my own mobile home.
Positives: much easier to drive than I had expected/the loo emptying wasn't as awful as I'd expected!/plenty of storage space/very warm inside.
Negatives: the hose didn't have the right connector piece at the end to fit onto campsite taps and I had to get one from the first campsite/the hose needed to be a lot longer to reach taps on campsites/a reel for the electricity cable would have been useful as I always ended up with a tangled mess/the mattress moved forward when I was driving about and it was very heavy to move back again in a confined space (and I was on my own) - some way to keep it in place on the base of the bed would be good.

We're glad that you had a positive experience and that the motorhome familiarisation video was useful for you. We will be keeping it alongside any handovers we do in future. Also, you are absolutely right. It's a different experience driving a motorhome, but not so scary. They are easy to drive and van life is great fun when you get used to it!
Thanks also for your feedback. We'll have a look at connectors for the hose. We try to use a universal fitting and this seems to work fine most of the time. Also, the hose is 5m which on most campsites seems to be OK. The mattress is one we haven't come across before, so that's useful. We review all customer feedback at the end of each season, so maybe we could look at attaching the mattress with a couple of Velcro strips to prevent any movement when travelling. We'll also consider the idea of a reel for the electric cable.
Overall, it must have been good if you're considering buying your own. And in the meantime, we would love to welcome you back for another #spaceshipsroadtrip - and this time make it a 5 Star experience!

We rented a motorhome for 5 days and all the admin was fast an easy, good customer service. Even we needed to extend the hire for 1 extra day and it was so easy with them.
The motorhome was clean and everything was looking good.
We had a fantastic time in family exploring the west of Scotland coast.
Cannot wait to do it again.

A great company to deal with, everything was easy and they are very customer focussed. Service was great and even though lockdown procedures in place you felt supported. Motorhome was great and video instructions were clear.

This year, we took the difficult decision to go with contactless collection/drop off. Following the pandemic, we believe this is the best practice in terms of the health, safety and welfare of our customers and staff. We send individual vehicle familiarisation videos that go through every aspect of the operation as well as providing driving tips and general advice prior to collection.
We are unwilling to take the risk of one customer being infected with Covid 19, which could then potentially infect a staff member and the next batch of customers we deal with. We miss seeing our customers face to face, and it is a bit weird for us too, but for now, we hope that is a responsible stance to help prevent and reduce the potential spread of Covid 19.
Maybe next time all this will be different and we can make it a 5 Star experience for you!

The motorhome was comfortable, well equipped and spacious with loads of storage. It was great having a good sized fridge/freezer and oven. The heating was great when it was chilly at night. The only things that bothered us were the hose supplied had a hole in it and could have been a bit longer, levelling blocks should be supplied and the mattresses were hard and uncomfortable. Despite these small issues, we would definitely hire again from Spaceships.

We appreciate your recommendation and also value your feedback. We're pleased that you enjoyed the motorhome and we'll pass on your feedback regarding the mattress to the manufacturer. They are supplied with the motorhome and are made to measure, so it's not something we can change.
Apologies that the hose had a hole in it. We carry out a multi-point check in between hires, and maybe this is something that was missed on this occasion. Also, we have looked at levelling blocks in the past. We have a slight concern about the safety of using these, and have been reluctant to supply them in case they break and damage the vehicle, or worse still, cause an injury to the user. It is something we will reconsider for the future though, so thank you for your comments.

Luxury motorhome hire. Scotland trip
We hired a van from spaceship from start to finish they must be complemented on there efficient admin and organised booking system. They kept in constant email contact with easy instructions how to pick van up and drop off etc . The reason I didn’t give them 5 stars because we were really disappointed with the size of the inside the island bed layout was a total challenge you couldn’t shut the toilet door when the bed was fully out and the space to get to the toilet was not for anyone above a size 14 !! We mastered the slide and crawl back in bed technique !! A few problems with grill and tv . Having said that 5 stars for the van was so easy to drive and really good on diesel . We really enjoyed our road trip. But next time we need more living space very small ..

We're glad you had an enjoyable trip and that the booking system and our communications worked well for you. The motorhome is amazing and a great drive as you say, but if you are new to motorhoming, you do have to adapt to life on the road.
The bedroom contains a double island bed with a separate loo and shower. It's a clever compact design and Adria are renowned for their interior and layout, but we will pass on your feedback.
Maybe next time you should try our Family motorhome. This has an over the cab double with a larger living area. The washroom is located towards the back of the motorhome.
With the different configuration, maybe we can make it a 5 Star #spaceshipsroadtrip for you next time!

The only reason this has one star is…
The only reason this has one star is because I couldn’t begin the review without giving it a star rating… Spaceship rentals don’t even deserve one star.
The first omen was an email about half an hour before arriving thanking us for renting ‘Kirk’ followed by a list of photos showing existing damage. We turned up to pick up the “luxury” camper van in Scotland, our first ever experience with camper vans. No one shows you how anything works or what you do, you’re given a video. About a couple of miles down the road we noticed water running through the main galley. When we took it back we found someone to have a look at it but he didn’t really have a clue where it was coming from or what to do, suggested water may have got in when pressure washed…. so not a confident start!
In the evening we went to make up the bed, there had been a half hearted attempt to put a cover over the mattress but on closer inspection the elastic had gone on the edges and as a result the cover didn’t stay in place. We removed the cover to then reveal a heavily stained mattress and what looked like urine stains plus hairs in the middle. The bedding provided was equally badly stained. Needless to say we booked into a hotel and the following morning customer services and the operations Director were extremely unhelpful. We were told to go out and buy a new cover and bedding and that we’d be reimbursed but that didn’t take away from the fact that the mattress was in a revolting state. The operations director informed us that the mattresses occasionally get dry cleaned. I suspect probably at the end of a busy summer season but bearing in mind that there is still a COVID pandemic going on they should be steam cleaned between each rental.
We returned the camper van the following morning after a six hour round trip and got a refund. Honestly I would never consider renting from Spaceships again, the state of the camper van and the level of service we received was deplorable, and not cheap! Friends of ours, the same week, rented a van from one of their main competitors and they said they were shown and demonstrated everything and they bent over backwards to be helpful so there’s no using COVID as an excuse not to exercise good customer service. Seriously have a good look round before even considering using this company.

If I may respond to some of the points you raised.
It is standard practice within the vehicle rental industry to show any minor damage to the vehicle prior to a customer hire. This is so both the rental company and customer are aware of this, and that the customer will not be held liable for those damages. Just like a car or van rental, it is not possible to repair every scratch or minor dent between rentals.
This year, we took the difficult decision to go with contactless collection/drop off. Following the pandemic, we believe this is the best practice in terms of health & safety and the safety and welfare of our customers and staff. We have individual vehicle familiarisation videos that go through every aspect of the motorhome's operation as well as providing driving tips and general advice.
This is sent to all customers prior to collection and we recommend that you download to your phone in case you need to refer to it on the trip.
Other operators may still walk through the motorhome with customers. We are unwilling to take the risk of one customer being infected with Covid 19, which could then potentially infect a staff member and the next batch of customers we deal with. We hope that is a responsible stance to help prevent and reduce the potential spread of Covid 19.
We checked the minor water leak for you and found no leak.
You contacted us pointing out marks on the mattress. We explained that the mattresses are deep cleaned and have a custom-made sewn in mattress cover. The marks are from the cleaning process. Despite that we gave you the option of buying a new set of bedding at our expense with us shipping a new mattress cover out to you. At that point you asked if we could deliver a new mattress or replacement vehicle to you in Inverness. Unfortunately this was not possible as we had no spare vehicles and following the impact of the pandemic on the supply chain, there is a delay in the supply of motorhome mattresses which are produced by the manufacturer.
We then offered you the alternative of returning the vehicle with a full refund. That is the option you decided to take.
In the light of the above, I'm not sure how much more we could have done for you.

Booked on line with ease. Had confirmation with with van details and videos on how to operate.
I checked in online and the day before, I received a code to the lockbox with keys in. On return they're was a Dropbox for keys.
The vehicle was clean and very spacious. 1st time driving one, and found it quite easy, even on the Scottish back roads.
My only annoyance, same with any hire company, fuel should be full and returned full, not half way or a quarter.
Had a great time in the motorhome, and I would definitely use Spaceship, Edinburgh again

Thanks for the feedback about the fuel. It is something we review regularly, but we feel that if you return the vehicle with the same fuel level, you only pay for the fuel you use. Unfortunately, the "full to full" option relies on every customer doing this, which isn't always the case.

The good the bad and the smelly
The good: Website is fairly easy to navigate, the email communication is prompt and the videos explain how to manage all the facilities of the van. The van itself was a good specification and the pick up process was easy.
The bad: Within 20 minutes drive the ESR stability warning light came on. Switching off the engine reset it but not the most comforting thought when you are driving the largest vehicle you've ever driven.
The technical support line took the call but there was no follow up.
The 3rd day into the trip we had a 30 minute drive from the camp site and the toilet leaked - the cassette closing mechanism was faulty. Even after cleaning up it meant the van smelt like the inside of a really bad festival portaloo.
I did exchange emails with the team , which were prompt in replying but basically of the attitude of "oh dear".

We're glad that the vehicle and communication was good for you and we hope that you had an enjoyable trip.
I know that our customer service team were in touch with you during the trip and explained that the toilet cassette operation was fine on the multi-point vehicle check for our pre-hire inspection. Unfortunately you may have inadvertently damaged it during opening or closing. Sometimes these things happen and sadly are largely beyond our control. We hope this didn't spoil your trip for you.
The ESR/ASR warning is a traction control warning. This may simply show as the result of one or more of the wheels slipping on the road surface or possibly by accidentally hitting both the brake and accelerator pedals at the same time. It is not a mechanical fault. Our vehicles also undergo a mechanical pre-hire check and are serviced more frequently that the manufacturer recommended service intervals.
Thanks again for your feedback. We will take that on board and try and provide a more thorough response and explanation to this type of on the road experience.

We hired a family motorhome from spaceships. We had a very smooth and easy experience. My wife arranged the bookings and was really surprise with the good price spaceships offered. We booked 1 month before our trip to Scotland in August.
Communications were spot on. Key safe code sent by e mail to pick up the van keys, flexible in arsion Easy to watch and understand videos about the features of the van.

Excellent service from start to finish.
All very organised through the online application process. The information received, including videos, were more than enough to ensure we had everything that was needed to use our campervan.
The pick up and drop off service was very efficient. There was no time wasted in picking up as the "check in" process was done on the website, alongside all other information on account management.
The campervan was well equipped and perfect for our trip.
