Absolutely useless, very worrying
Once upon a time Teachers' Pensions was reliable and helpful, now it is absolutely dreadful. My benefit statement for re-employment has not been visible online for well over a year and apparently IT are still trying to sort it!? I am also affected by the transitional arrangements and have been promised for over two years that it is being sorted out. I have not even received the form to fill in yet and the agent on the telephone said she had no idea when they would get to me as they have so many people to sort out. I retired in 2019 so they have had considerable time for this! I have phoned many times and each time I get a different answer, basically they fob you off with some excuse and do nothing. Secure messages get answered after a few weeks but most questions are unanswered! Let's hope the new pension provider can sort it out, Capita obviously can't! It really isn't fair that people don't know what their final pension amount is. It's very stressful and hard to plan retirement.
Appalling Lack of Support
Sadly I have to agree with the mountain of one star reviews already on here. Shockingly bad service, ignored messages, long delays, and zero effective help, leaving you feeling completely helpless! Having to go to Ombudsman now.
The TPS are staggeringly bad.
The Teachers Pension Service are staggeringly bad. It is now ONE YEAR since I applied to receive my pension and have got nowhere. Over the last six months, I have tried lodging complaints and am still waiting for a vague response about their investigation taking longer than expected.
Am still waiting for a response to a…
Am still waiting for a response to a complaint made on the 24th September. The depth of uselessness with which the teachers pension is handled is mind boggling. Organising jolly times in breweries springs to mind.
Hang your heads in shame TPS
At last you are being exposed for the broken and unaccountable company you are. Well done BBC Watchdog.
Utter ineptitude
Like others, regrettably I can't give a 0 rating. I requested a CETV a year ago, and paid for it in Jan 2025. I was then informed I was affected by the Transitional Protection issues and would need a Remediable Service Statement (RSS) first. I have sent multiple secure messages online, and a number of complaints asking when I'll receive my RSS, but only ever receive a 'holding' letter, if I'm lucky enough to get a response at all. They've had my money for a CETV for 10 months but are nowhere near providing it, so why demand payment from me, then? It takes an hour plus, each time to get through on the phone and then they say they can't give timescales for delivery, or even for answering formal complaints. How is it possible to be so completely inefficient and unprofessional, and inadequate as a pension provider, and not be hauled over the coals by the Government?! Meanwhile, thousands of us are suffering financially and emotionally through no fault of our own. I honestly don't know what to do next as I'm at the end of my tether.
Non-existent customer service.
I have been trying to get a resolution (which should be straightforward) to an issue I raised in April 2025. I am still waiting to get this resolved. The communication has been dire. When I call the operatives have no clue and are keen to move you on with (broken) promises that the ‘team’ are on to it and it will be resolved soon. I have made 3 official complaints and still nothing. In addition I am affected by the transition arrangements and was promised a resolution letter (18 months ago) by the end of September. No letter has arrived and no communication has been made. This is seriously affecting my ability to plan for my future and has caused a great deal of stress.
Frustrated. Disillusioned. Concerned.
Like everyone else on here I am just adding my voice to the dreadful lack of service and communication at Teachers' Pensions. I recognise that I am in a more fortunate position than many, as I have received the pension due to me at 60. However, since then, I have been unable to access my remaining pension statement/forecast for pensions due at 65 and 67 respectively, so am in limbo over the next stage of my retirement. Like many, I can't make any financial decisions regarding continuing to work or reducing hours further. As with all the other reviews on here the online messaging service receives no answers.
Appalling customer service
I have been shocked by how poor the customer service has been. I reached out back in April 2025 regarding an issue and it has only been resolved today, 7th October 2025. During this time, I sent multiple contact requests which were just ignored, including two official complaints which have still not been responded to. I sent another message in September 2025 to which I did receive a response - however this was responding to a message from April 2024 and asking if I still needed help with it and if so, I needed to open a new contact form. A year and a half later! When I finally did get a response, which was only when I raised a complaint outside of my teachers pension, there was no apology or even acknowledgement of the stress and worry that this has caused and even now not all issues have been answered. I am incredibly disappointed with the customer service and am still dissatisfied with where I have been left today.
Why are we missing out on our money?
Like many others I would give a minus. I applied to take a 75% draw down on my pension in February 2025 but there is query regarding my years of service which TP seem unwilling or unable to confirm. I am therefore working at a lower salary and receiving none of my pension payments. I have written 2 letters of complaint and sent numerous emails complaining, including many phone calls. I am asked to remain patient.
My mother died 5 months ago but TP…
My mother died 5 months ago but TP keeps asking me to confirm her death with no reply automated emails even though I've now reported 3 times. They ask me to fill out a death benefits form even though she'd been retired for 30+ years and there are none.
When I go to fill out the form (because I can't actually get anyone to talk to me) it won't let me proceed without my NI number but I'm not a UK citizen so I don't have one. I've submitted numerous complaints and guess what, I just get more no reply automated email. All I want is her P60 so that I can do her taxes overseas.
Let's how the ombudsman get them to provide this for me. Look at these reviews. Absolutely disgraceful. The anxiety and distress they've caused me while I'm grieving is disgusting.
Pension still not processed
Pension due to be processed on 1st September (received email on 20th August from Teachers’ Pension saying pension would definitely be processed on 1st Sept) and, over 4 weeks later, still waiting!!!! Sent several secure messages and only had one reply telling me that my pension would be processed shortly (no dates given). Lodged a formal complaint - automatic email sent to me saying I would get a response in 15 working days - appalling. I had to borrow money to finance a planned special holiday to celebrate my retirement, after 37 years of teaching.
Utter sh*te
Lump expected on 12th Sept, received nothing, when I called I was asked "why I needed the money". Called every other day, the response from the "customer facing" call handlers, is "we apologise, we understand" or silence.. I asked will I get my monthly payments, reply was "we can't confirm, sorry".... utter sh*te
Lump sum due to be paid on the 1st…
Lump sum due to be paid on the 1st September, still waiting. It’s now the 29th September. Numerous phone calls, talking to administrative staff who know nothing. They have no knowledge and no information. Having been kept on hold for an average of 30 minutes each time, you are then kept on hold while they email administrative staff who do know something, so that they can repeat the information to you, which is basically, wait 10 working days. I have no wage and I have financial commitments that the lump sum was going to cover. Two formal complaints, numerous phone calls and still no contact or communication from Capita/teachers pensions. So distressing. Bank charges and loss of interest, and one of the the worst things is the feeling that not a single one of them care.
Teachers pension are useless
Teachers pension are useless. Over an hour wait to get any one to awnser . Emails go unanswered for weeks , issues with pension ignored. Virtually impossible to get them to sort anything out
My annual rise in Teachers’ pension…
My annual rise in Teachers’ pension rose by 1% this year. Is this what we are to expect from now on?
Ignored
I have asked for information re the calculation of my pension for over 18 months . Despite numerous attempts to retrieve this information I am still no further forward .
Complaints are ignored , phone calls become disconnected . The representative that I last spoke to agreed that my complaint wasn’t being dealt with and suggested I went to my MP .
Uncommuncative and unhelpful
Uncommuncative and unhelpful. Persistently missed deadlines, did appear to understand their own systems or procedures. Caused anxiety and confusion. They really need to improve.
Claim process is designed to make sure your payment is late.
Warning. The claim process is designed to make sure you do not get your lump sum on time. I applied months in advance, and all seemed OK. Then 3 weeks before retirement (and I retire at the end of September, which is unusual so they cannot claim they were busy) a form dropped into my pension portal online. Conveniently no email was sent to tell me, but this form is essential and must be completed. Now bear in mind they take 10 working days to do anything, and the form has to be posted, no electronic submission allowed. That means with the best will in the word, your form might just get processed on your actual retirement day. So many questions. Why is such an important form not accompanied by a text and maybe a letter (after all you have to submit a written copy)? At what point would they bother to follow up if you have not returned the form? Is their plan to wait until you don't get your lump sum, or perhaps they are just hoping you have changed your mind about retiring and don't want the money? Even the letter with the form is designed to confuse. It just says the form is important and they look forward to your reply. No indication where to send the form, and the instructions about how to download a copy are inaccurate.
All in all a huge waste of time. And don't make any financial plans based on receiving your lump sum on time. I claims my NHS pension last year. They posted the same form 2 months in advance, and emailed to let me know it was essential.
A Dysfunctional Organisation
The Teachers Pensions scheme is without doubt the worst customer expreience I have ever had. I would give zero stars if that were possible. It has taken me two year to finally receive a small sum in lieu of my pension - possibly one of the most simple procedures a pension provider could have!
My initial contact was good. I could get through on the phone and staff were invariably helpful. However, that become increasingly difficult with wait time of up to an hour becoming normal. Trying to get anywhere using the website messaging system was hopeless. Long delays, unanswered questions, the organisations own deadlines usually missed (including for dealing with complaints). I was sent wrong forms and waited months , was told it would take only days once the right form,s were sent, when it actually took several more months. I made and attempted dozens of phone calls and website messages with little progress. It was a very dispiriting experience.
This is clearly a dysfunctional organisation unfit for the job it purports to do. I pity anybody reliant on its services and am very glad to be free of them at last!
