A fabulous stay.. We thought the food was wonderful despite a few negative feedback reports we've read.. We had a lunch and an evening meal with no complaints whatsoever. Food I would give 10/10. Staff are friendly and extremely helpful. All a credit to the business. Now for my only criticism, we booked a double room which was very tight to maneuver but bearing in mind the age of the building it was okay although update wouldn't go a miss. overall a wonderful stay and would highly recommend.

Nice setting and staff were polite. However the food left a lot to be desired. We booked for six for Sunday lunchtime. I had the soup of the day which was Luke warm. I ordered roast pork. All of our leaks were actually raw, my crackling was soggy and chewy, all of our Yorkshire puddings were burnt and the vegetables were all cold or lukewarm warm. It was unfortunate the food did not match the setting.save your money and try somewhere else.

Looked at the usual Sunday menu which was £30 for 2 courses. Went on Mother's Day, and found that the menu for rhe same food was £39 for two courses. Really? Food was plentiful, but the veg was cold, and not cooked, and the whole meal was cool, like it hadbeen plated up, and left out too long.
Parking is awful. An example of a small village pub that has delusions of grandure, and got too big, and spoilt the charm of what was a nice place.

Our Daughter booked this as a surprise for my birthday as I had seen it advertised and really wanted to go, the table booking was 4.30 on a Sunday for 6 people, as we were seated were offered to order drinks and given menus, we ordered fairly promptly starters and mains with the starters arriving fairly swiftly, but that's where It all went very wrong some of us were only half way through our starters when our mains arrived then being told the kitchen is closing in 15 mins which was completely news to us all, hence rushed down our starters to eat a cold roast dinner which was not pleasant at all, never before have anyone of us experienced this, we were not pre warned of this at all, why take a booking at that time of day and not inform us that the kitchen closed at 5 pm, we were rushed into eating and didn't really enjoy any of it to be honest,no one offered us any drinks either, we did not complain at the time as our friends had travelled a fair distance just for me, we spent approximately £300 and we're very disappointed to say the least it really put a dampner on my day, if we had been pre warned about this we would never have booked.

We have visited this lovely pub on and off for many years and used to stay with a great friend who lives opposite. He now finds it difficult to accommodate us when we visit, so my wife and I decided to stay at the Chestnut Horse for a couple of nights
It has been very tastily done up and the food and restaurant are first class. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The bedroom was excellent, although the shower drainage could have been better! We are now both elderly and it was difficult to negotiate the very narrow old staircase to our room. The staff very kindly carried our luggage both up and down for us. there were two disappointments, which is the reason that we could not give 5/5. Firstly, the breakfast offered is coffee and a pastry and also available at extra cost are bacon/sausage baps and croissants. Secondly, there is no room service. We realise that this is not a hotel, as was pointed out to us, but it would greatly improve the establishment, if they could provide a more substantial breakfast and room service. Bar these two problems and we appreciate that there are probably difficulties in recruiting staff for these matters, we were very satisfied with this lovely friendly pub in such beautiful surroundings

Unfortunately the food did not live up to expectations. Went as a family of 4 for Sunday lunch albeit slightly later at 4:30pm and the staff were packing everything down/dimming the lights and curtains so felt a bit of a burden.
Food was average at best with cold Gravy and beef and to add insult to injury there was an added 20% service charge to the bill Totalling £182 for four people so dod not think this was good Value at all. Left disappointed given the high hopes….

The chestnut horse does not live up to its pretentions in food or service. We ate in a party of 5. After having to find menus ourselves and ordering we waited an hour before asking when our meal was going to come. When it arrived it came in parts, the last people served a long time after the first. The food was disappointing, the pie of the day had a crust that was impossible to cut through, the salads were drenched in the cheapest oil and the steak tough.

A nice atmosphere but the rest is sadly lacking

I seem to make the mistake of eating and drinking elsewhere and having my expectations of other establishment trashed. The Chestnut Horse always seems to provide great food, great service and a relaxed familiar atmosphere. Note to self - stop going elsewhere and stick to what you know is great food and value!
