Ubuntu can be very good depending on what flavor you go for. I used standard Gnome Ubuntu & found it too buggy. But I have tried Ubuntu Mate & I think Ubuntu Mate is way better than standard Ubuntu. I haven't tried Kubuntu or Ubuntu Studio yet but I had very good experience with KDE Plasma & I'm planning on trying Ubuntu Studio one day. Ubuntu can be very good be you have to pick the right flavour for older & low end hardware

Ubuntu is personalizable, it's not a clone of Windows 10, works perfect, i was changed my operating system to Ubuntu because my Windows 10 was destroyed because a reset... So I wanted Ubuntu because never i was installed Ubuntu... I love it! I recommend it!

Ubuntu OS ist leicht und schnell zu installieren, und das OS läuft sehr stabil und schnell. Ist für Benutzer die nur Internet und einfache Büroarbeiten machen wollen eine gute kostenlose Lösung. Wer aber zum Beispiel Musik produziert, kann Ubuntu nicht gebrauchen, da es kein Angebot von externe Soundkarten gibt die mit Linux funktionieren. Wenn man auf ein Problem trifft dann ist man total aufgeschmissen da man über das Terminal kaum ein Problem lösen kann. Zum Beispiel hatte ich "Gnome Boxes" installiert, wollte es deinstallieren aber das war nicht möglich - musste das ganze Ubuntu neu installieren. Dann habe ich VirtualBox installieren um Windows 10 zu emulieren; nur Probleme!! Das System meldete ein Fehler nach dem anderen, hier fehlt was, da fehlt was, man müsse dies updaten, das installieren, MOK Management.. Ubuntu ist noch nicht ausgereift, vielleicht in 5-10Jahren nochmals versuchen.

I'm not too excited about Ubuntu. I installed it as an alternative to Windows 7. These are the things that bother me enough to rarely use it on my dual-boot Windows 7/Ubuntu system:
1.Why does the boot selection menu assume you want to boot Ubuntu by default, not Windows? And why is there not a way to change the boot order as a menu item in the list? You have to google instructions on how to change it, and after a while it seems to revert back to the original configuration without being asked to, probably during a system update I assume. Let me choose my own default boot OS, don't force yourself on me Ubuntu.
2. The graphic interface is, well, "chunky" and unattractive. Icons are too big, and the way they "wiggle" is way too cute, not in a good way. And screen blanking or putting the PC to "sleep" gets you random monochrome squares when the display re-awakens. More than a few people experience this problem (according to various forums), and a clear solution isn't apparent.
3. Opera browser never remembers windows size from the previous session, and always starts up with the same arbitrary sized and positioned window each time.
4. Compared to Windows 7 on the same system, Ubuntu runs slower than molasses in winter. Painfully slow.
5. Apparently the software store application never shuts down and therefore the system complains it can't apply pending updates, unless you spend a half an hour on the internet figuring out how to terminate the application via command line. A USER should not have to facilitate routine interactions between the SYSTEM and what is basically pre-installed SYSTEM SOFTWARE.

And then there's the time issue: Windows assumes the system clock is local time, Ubuntu assumes the system clock indicates UTC, and applies an offset depending on your local time zone. Back to google and the command line. If the creators of Ubuntu want Windows users to migrate, why don't they make an effort to smooth the path a little?

All in all, a fail. Which is why I prefer to set the default boot OS on my system to Windows 7 (which Ubuntu makes difficult to do, of course).

Linux Ubuntu is excellent, stable & easy to use, updated regularly, has built-in security/anti-virus protection, never crashes my laptop & they have a lot of free software applications available. You can use the graphical user interface or use command lines. I had it installed on my laptop in December 2019 (after I had a message from Microsoft saying they would stop supporting the 3rd version of Windows I'd had on a laptop within less than a month - when they stopped supporting the previous 2 versions of Windows they killed my laptops at the same time, so I lost all my files, & there were constant problems caused by Microsoft all along, so I decided I must immediately get rid of Microsoft entirely & not allow them to destroy a 3rd laptop). I got a local computer repair shop to save all the files I wanted to keep, remove Microsoft from my laptop and install Linux Ubuntu. Linux Ubuntu is free & I only had to pay 30 Euros to the computer repair shop for their service. I recommend Linux Ubuntu to everyone, I'm really glad I got it installed on my laptop. Thank you very much to all the people at Linux Ubuntu for providing such an excellent and stable operating system, and for making it available for free.

Recently Installed Ubuntu to test it out. It seems far more mature than the versions of Linux I tried as a teenager.

As someone who has used Ubuntu on all their machines since 2013 I can vouch for the amount of effort put into this breathtaking distro. Each major new version of Ubuntu adds to the experience with amazing new features and brilliant performance adaptations. The amount of work and dedication the team have put into Ubuntu really shows.

almost perfect, but still problems with drivers for graphic cards, fullscreen lag and black screen always problem on Ubuntu, but if i will rate really Ubuntu and not Linux modules then Unity UI should be more adjustable, i want install and use and don't download Xfce and etc..another problem is resources, consuming so much RAM

It is a great sistem for people that are new to linux and aren't looking for anything to fancy. It is simple and really easy to use wile also being really light (Making it also good for VMs).

For people looking for some more advansed and custimizable sistem ... well it does the job, but in that case i would say there are a few linux sistems that do it better (Tho most require more setting up).

Terrible server operating system! Uses up all your ram and cpu and has some sketchy practices. I would stay away and use debian for servers.

I have a Dell XPS 13 circa 2012 (4GB memory) that was becoming a fire hazard running Windows 10. The fan ran continuously, it was too hot to use as a laptop, and could hardly do anything with the CPUs pegged. I decided to try Ubuntu Desktop 20.04. It installed effortlessly (thanks to Rufus), and provided all the fundamental features I wanted. Now the System Monitor shows the CPUs running in single digits, and the laptop seems new again. I am delighted with the experience!

Contrary to popular believe though, Linux is not for everyone.

You need to put a lot of time into Linux and you WILL love it. If you are not down for a massive investment of time, don't bother.

Amazing. I wish I had switched to Linux and Ubuntu years ago.

You need a bit of technological confidence to transition and set up. I managed it. Installation of hardware like an external WiFi receiver on an old desktop is tricky.

But now everything is set up, I'm delighted. Its fast. Things like Dropbox work far better then on windows 10. No need for viral software. Free installation.

The only people that need Windows are if you use full spec office software. I use find the free software a bit naff, but now, they are actually pretty good for spreadsheets and word. My hyperlinks all transitioned over well!

Enjoy that its debian based, but never a fan of GNOME and Unity was ridiculous. Its an overweight build, albiet with a friendlier community than some distros.

Best linux distro by far, anyone who rates ubuntu as 1 star is just because they dont know how to use linux.

I'm having a bad experience, will change my review if I can get it resolved. I am not able to connect to the internet and the company won't help me for free since it's a free app. They refer me to forums where I get different answers and don't want to hack it up, so its useless. Now I don't even know how to remove it. Waste of time. Very frustrated.
