I sent 93 books to World of Books via their Sell Your Books service. Of those, 55 — around 59% — were marked "Not Received," meaning I was not paid for them. A further handful were rejected for condition issues, which I accept. But the Not Received figure is extraordinary, and I am certain every book on the manifest was packed and sent.
Several of the Not Received items were higher-value books in good condition, including titles worth £5–6 each. When I raised a formal complaint, the initial reply addressed only the rejected items (which I hadn't disputed) and restated the standard terms. My actual questions — about their reconciliation process, whether parcels are weighed on arrival, whether Not Received means physically absent or just not scanned — went unanswered.
Their terms state that rejected items are "instantly recycled" with no images retained, their decision is "final," and they "will not enter into any discussions." In practice this means they can deny receipt of your books, claim to destroy them, and refuse to explain. I'd encourage anyone considering this service to be aware of that before sending anything of value.
I am still pursuing this through their complaints process. I'll update this review if they resolve it fairly.
Very disappointed. Sent some fabulous books in 2 packages and they denied receiving 3 of the best books. They were 100% in the parcel. I feel it’s dishonest and very unfair. They don’t give much for books and to be denied payment for books I know were in the parcel is not on.
A great way of getting rid of your ever increasing collection of books
Scammers! The 2 higher value brand new books in this trade were rejected & not paid as (1) pages not clean (brand new book), and (2) not received (in same parcel as the other low value books received).
Value of books was just over £10, and I feel World of Books has stolen this promised money from me, and will still be selling my books.
What appalling dishonesty, worse because the 2 books were expensive Bibles... what sort of people behave like this for profit?
I'm deleting the App, and will never use this company again, nor buy used books from them.

There have been middling issues with this company before. One book in poor condition when it was described as 'good', one book never delivered. I haven't reported these to them (although if anybody from WoB wants order numbers and photos to prove these, happy to provide.) In WoB's defence, I never reported these due to a family situation that was happening concurrently. So would they have rectified this? Who knows.
This time is different. I ordered a book which arrived in excellent condition, but that had an overpowering smell of solvent. Tried ignoring it and ended up with a headache and nausea after using it for only 10 minutes. Thought it might air off, gave it a few weeks. No dice, still a strong solvent smell that messes with me and everybody else amongst my friends and family who try to use it.
Now I'll grant you, this does not fit neatly into any terms and conditions regarding returns. Given the presence of a what seems to be a chemical that affects people this way, however, I thought WoB would be concerned enough to at least look into this.
No. No they are not. The customer service agent (self-described 'Customer Service Hero' dear effing god), is presumably AI as it repeats the same script. There's no phone number to talk to an actual human. AI AI AI.
If one of your suppliers has sent out a possibly contaminated book, you investigate. You apologise. You replace the book and pay for the bad copy to be returned. You don't tell somebody their issue falls under 'no longer wanting this item' and charging them to post it to you, presumably to be sent out again to some other poor sod later on.
Would rather have dealt with this via customer service but there we go.

They lied and said half my books didnt arrive even though they were all in the same box. Took weeks from when I sent them to the payment. Terrible! Wouldn’t use again

Packaging is terrible - just a thin plastic pag with no protection against damage, especially to book corners when dropped.
Not reecommended.

They are the best you can go through!! Go to your bookshelf scan all of your books easily using your smartphone and it will just automatically tell you how much they'll buy it for. You don't have to talk to anybody which I love, it's a free process and then I was able to easily print out the label there was like no waiting, the label fits on a free lrg flat rate box from the USPS is the fastest easiest way, and things are very streamlined you could tell they know what they're doing I am so happy I sent my books off and within just within no time they were received and within absolutely less than that they were quickly processed and I was cut my payment so fast I am so happy I have nothing but great things to say about this business and just thank you so much I will be a customer for life here's me in the thrift store scanning barcodes to make sure I can't make a dollar cuz in this economy you know that that's what's up thank you!!!!!! you guys are awesome!!!!!!!!!!
Keep reducing the offer after items received
Trade 11017886 was only brand new books. However, world of books deemed that some of my books had dirty pages, so didn’t pay the amount promised. It seems every trade ends up being less than the small amount they agree to pay. They will not send back the books sent, as they are now ‘their property’. Not sure that’s legal.?

I wish I had looked at the reviews before I used this company to sell my cds, books and games. I checked all cases before sending and packaged in 2 boxes. All the higher priced items were rejected. Funny that! I am waiting for a response, in hope they will return the items they have rejected, as the cases were fine. I will persevere out of principle. Very disappointed with this service. Feel like I have been conned!!

Very easy to use the app to scan the books. Clear instructions and free pickup. So pleased that I can recycle my books so easily and have money to purchase more from World of Books.
after processing, they said 2 of the books were ‘not received’. utter rubbish, they were all in the same box!!

Then when I wanted to ask someone I can't get the chatbot Nora to direct me to an agent. There is no facility it seems for asking for this. You can only select predetermined subjects. Typing 'talk to a person' doesn't find anything either. How on earth do you get support for issues that are not covered by the FAQs?

Do not and i repeat do not do business with them! See all the other reviews they are true. I sent a book in for payment and the book is in very good condition its a book worth over 300 and they rejected and refuse to provide any answers. Crooked and shady and they need to be shut down!
