A shockingly bad fan, steer well clear....
I should have read the reviews before purchasing, rather than assuming that a big name in the extractor fan industry produced decent quality fans. The fan I am reviewing is a 150mm fan from the Xpelair Simply Silent range. It is anything but silent, in fact it was very noisy from the start, it could quite easily be heard from anywhere in the house. It didn't seem very efficient at removing steam, even though I had gone for 150mm version, and then it packed up altogether on month 13, 1 month out of warranty (which was actually a relief). I have now fitted a Envirovent Silent 150mm fan which cannot be heard outside of the bathroom, and comes with a 5 year guarantee.
Four failed extractors in four years
I had four of the simply silent models with just the timer installed and the timing capacitor on all of them has burnt out within 4 years, the first was at just over a year. The more expensive one with humidistat seems more robust but the cheaper model is just waste straight to landfill.
Purchased 4 inline 100 Expelair fans…
Purchased 4 inline 100 Expelair fans (checked them before installation and they where working) within weeks 2 of them failed totally. One is working and the other one is waiting installation. So disappointed with a company that is meant to be a good standard. Never again Expelair is substandard. From an experienced electrician. Ps check other reviews.
Simply Silent Fan is NOT that
Simply Silent Fan is NOT that. My electrician fitted one and it was 42 dB on the slow setting!! ie talking volume. How can this be silent? Replaced with an Air 6 Cloud and that is simply silent. 28dB
Very disappointed in the description not fitting the reality.
Smooth baffle fan failure
Bought a smooth baffle extractor fan from TS. It was always noisy and after 13 months it failed completely. TS refunded me and I bought an Airvent fan which is so quiet I had to perform a smoke test to see if it was working!
DS150PS
Don't buy...really bad quality product. First one purchased online Amz .lasted 2 months got noisier and noisier then stopped rotating. 2nd one same purchased Screwfix lasted 3 days got noisier and noisier then fan blade assembly fell off shaft
Rubbish - invest your money elsewhere
If I could give the Xpelair C4HTSR Simply Silent Bathroom Fan with Humidistat a ZERO I would, but this would be superceded by a MINUS TEN for customer support who are useless and try to blame customers for the racket that this fan was making in my newly refurbished bathroom for the past few weeks/months!!
In my case they attempted to blame everything EXCEPT the design of their product which looks good on the outside, but is woefully poorly designed.
They twice mentioned that I should either contact Citizens advice or the Dispute Ombudsman which tells me that all of these 1 star reviews are due to their sub standard products and their inability to resolve issues.
I really hope you read this and other reviews before you buy any of their fans. I had to spend x5 times more on electricians to resolve the issue than I paid for the fan itself!!
Unit only lasted 2 years
Unit only lasted 2 years
installed exactly 2 years a Xpelair Xplus Mev unit this was meant to be a top of the range unit however it gave up completely exactly 2 years after installation,
its a pity as it worked well until it stopped
not good enough It's not a cheap unit either
Fans Fail...
In the 18 years I have been in my house I have bought 5 xpelair extract fans for 2 rooms
They are useless... They all fail after a few years... The original Vortex extract fan in the bathroom is 18 years plus old and never failed.
Won't be getting any more xpelair... The electronic board fails so you have to buy the whole unit again.
Market strategy...?
Not sure.. But loads agree here they fail..
Expelair was once a brand you could…
Expelair was once a brand you could rely on, and having used their products for many years, I purchased a 4” silent fan with a timer and humidity sensor. Initially, it worked fine, but over a period of four years, it gradually stopped extracting effectively to the point where the customer’s bathroom has now become a steam room.
I contacted Expelair to report the issue, but their response was far from satisfactory—they simply stated that the fan was out of warranty. Given the price of the product, I expected better support. Despite being promised a callback after the issue was escalated to their complaints department, I am still waiting to hear back.
The brand’s quality and customer service have declined significantly compared to other manufacturers, most of whom offer a standard 5-year guarantee. Brands like Blauberg, Tornado, Airflow, and Vent-Axia now provide far more reliability and assurance. Moving forward, I will exclusively use these alternatives, as there’s no point reasoning with a company that shows such little regard for its loyal customers or end users. Expelair’s reputation for quality and reliability is, sadly, a thing of the past.
I purchased aa Xpelair DX100HPTS fan…
I purchased aa Xpelair DX100HPTS fan from (100mm 4" Simply Silent Fan Humidistat, Pullcord, Timer and Wall Kit) from CEF and before I installed it I bench tested it to ensure it was working i.e. wired it up and switched it on. The unit did not switch off on the timer, or the pull cord, and was faulty. I explained this all to CEF Norwich who were brilliant and exchanged the fan the same day - the replacement was also bench tested and worked correctly.
This is in marked contrast to Xpelair who when I phoned them and explained the situation to them wanted me to to employ an independent electrician - at my cost - to verify what I had told them was true - lousy service from what I thought was a reputable company - this is the last time I'll be buying their products as they do not stand by them - I would advice others to learn from their attitude.
GXC6EC
Bought as a replacement for an old GXC6.
What a load of tat.
Instructions are desperate. An addition was supplied with the manual on how to fit the front grill enabling the louvre to work. Good luck with that. After an hour of trying, gave up trying and removed the spring to keep it open.
Price is not proportionate to the quality.
Will look for an alternative manufacturer next time
Xpelair 100mm SS Contour Timed Fan
Batch fault of Xpelair Simply Silent 100mm Contour Timed Fan. Purchased qty 2 off these. Neither of them worked. 240v supply correctly wired, no operation.
This cost us 2 hours labour @ £60 per hour. We will no longer specify or use Xpelair Products. Quality Control at Xpelair has major issues. Fitted Vent-Axia products instead. No problems. We will be invoicing Xpelair for our costs.
Bathroom humidistat Fan has stopped…
Bathroom humidistat Fan has stopped working around a year after having it installed. Tried to find help through the xpelair website but it’s set out so badly so you can’t talk to anybody to get help. Steer clear of xpelair products. Not worth the hassle.
CT6HTS and CT4HTS problems
I have two Xpelair Contour 'silent' humidistat fans and both are erratic. Both are set with the controller fully clockwise (to shut off with higher humidity). One ran all night last night but worked fine after I turned it on and off. The other suddenly started in the middle of the night after seemingly working OK. I had just been replaced by Xpelair as the first one died within days.
The 6" fan is pretty noisy (58-60db), whereas the spec says 44.6db. I put the dehumidifier in the bathroom and it still hasn't turned off despite 59% humidity. I think the answer is to remove the humidity sensors.
I thought Xpelair were a reliable brand with a good track record. This no longer seems to be the case.
Tried to fit a Xpelair Window Fitting…
Tried to fit a Xpelair Window Fitting Kit, no thread to take screws, which I got re-threaded after weeks of waiting, only to discover that the next step couldn't be either! Been sending emails, yes they reply, but with no explanation or result.
Now been 12 weeks, and they're saying to remove it and return it.
THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE RECALLED.
Meanwhile a brand new bathroom is getting damaged by the moisture not being removed.
Zero Stars, for Product, and Customer Services. An absolute joke for such a simple fitting job!! Laughable 🤣
More than happy with this company
More than happy with this company. I recently bought a couple of bathroom extractor fans. One of the items was faulty and i had to contact their customer services, Without any fuss the CS replaced my item within a matter of days. Well done.
Xpelair GX6EC Extractor Fan - A joke!
The back draught shutter/grille of the GX6EC is almost impossible to install/de-install for cleaning purposes. Pull-cord plastic guide is loose fitting and almost impossible to locate. Total disappointing experience, £100 down the drain and last time I buy an Xpelair product.
Bathroom fan Contour C4
I really wish I had read the reviews before purchasing my Xpelair bathroom fan!
I paid extra for the top of the range model with timer and humidistat.
It’s the “silent” model and yes, it is quieter than most, but then you realise by default it is set to low speed. Set it to high speed (so it works) and the volume increases.
There are some one way baffles on the rear which are supposed to keep draughts out. Mine fell off during installation.
My fan doesn’t turn off unless I disconnect the humidistat, so that’s £20 extra I needn’t have paid.
Be warned that buying Xpelair is buying junk; never again…
Don’t buy anything with LED
Don’t buy anything with an LED as they don’t last long enough and replacement is around £70 for the small LED… customer service isn’t good either. Buy a cheaper alternative.
