This experience has changed our lives!
I left my rescue German Shepherd with the trainer for five weeks and at the end of the time she was a different dog. The regular videos and messages allowed me to follow some of her training and the two hour handover at the end of her stay allowed me to begin to change my behaviour towards her. I learned a great deal about how she was interpreting some of the messages (the wrong messages) that I was unconsciously conveying to her and both our lives have changed for the better. We are now going on long walks and if we meet another dog I feel much more confident to deal with the situation and keep her stress levels to a minimum. The trainer was very professional and well-informed and I have been delighted with the outcome of her stay. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone with a difficult or reactive dog.
Fantastic 3 week puppy training
Our Cockerpoo puppy had a 3 week training stay with Natalie from Adolescent Dogs, starting at 10 weeks of age. It was a bit of a wrench to part with our new pup but Natalie obviously loves dogs, loves training them and treats her charges as part of her family. The training she gave set our puppy up with great foundations in recall, lead walking, socialisation, and basic obedience skills. When she came home problems e.g. nipping were vastly improved and we have enjoyed having our puppy much more because of the training Natalie provided. It has been a really worthwhile investment for our family, and has a achieved a level of training we never would have managed attending puppy classes. It is also reassuring to know that someone is there for advice if we need it as our puppy grows up. We would highly recommend Adolescent Dogs.
Fantastic Puppy Training
Poppy is a lovely golden retriever puppy and although we had been to 2 different sessions of puppy classes we were struggling to follow this up out of the classes. As she was getting bigger and her jumping up at everyone was becoming a problem we decided to get some help and having read many reviews decided to proceed
From the first contact with Andrea the experience has been amazing. Everything was explained clearly to us and we understood what we needed to do. She supplied us with loads of pictures and feedback whilst she had Poppy and we felt happy to know where she was and what she was doing. It is lovely to see that Poppy was treated as part of her family and cared for so affectionately.
Poppy now consistently sits/down/wait/stay and no longer jumps up or steals food. Her recall is improving all the time and we are continuing to follow the trainer’s rules to achieve this
We have had 2 handover sessions as we were struggling a little with Poppy’s recall and the trainer happily gave us some more help and tips and has said we can contact her anytime if we need further help.
I would not hesitate to recommend your service to other people as I feel we are now able to enjoy our beautiful dog even more.
From manic puppy to a calm support dog
Back in March we introduced a working cocker pup into our family with the hope of working the dog with some of our hawks, she quickly decided to latch onto our toddler who is autistic and is currently awaiting major brain surgery.
It soon became very clear that the pup was his best friend and they became very attached to each other, our hopes of using her for flushing vanished and we quickly realised what a positive impact she had on our child.
He struggled to interact with us and was pretty much non verbal until the dog came along, he started interacting and playing with her and she seemed aware of his needs and would lie with him gently nudging him if he had a meltdown. Our biggest problem was she was such a lively pup and would barge her way out of doors at 100mph regardless of who was in the way, we knew that with our toddlers upcoming brain surgery we couldnt risk this and after many hours of research and debating what was best for us and the dog we decided to send her for training.
It wasnt an easy decision, we knew how close the bond was between the pair of them, we just wanted to ensure she was calmer around him and had good manners.
From the original email to the handover training session we have been delighted, Lila our trainer took it all on board as to how the dog needed to be calmer and to be his service dog, throughout her stay Lila sent us pictures and videos for our son as he found the seperation from his dog difficult to deal with.
The end result is absolutely fantastic and we are amazed at her progress!!
She is so much calmer, walks closely on the lead, doesnt charge around the house like a loonatic and her manners mean our little boy is safe around her.
Her training has exceeded our expectations by far and we highly recommend adolescent dogs and have already done so to other parents with special needs children who want the perfect buddy for their child.
A huge heartfelt thankyou to Lila for making our sons best friend a top dog!!
Highly recommended
My dog has recently returned from a 4 week residential course. He received wonderful care and training throughout his stay. The excellent communication between the lovely trainer and myself gave me peace of mind whilst away. I can see the results of the training, and am supported by great advice/feedback from the trainer, the staff at Adolescent Dogs, and the training manual and videos. Thank you for looking after and training my lovely dog, and for helping me develop my skills.
Adolescent Dogs are Excellent
Luna and Naomi
Naomi from Adolescent Dogs has worked miracles with my Dog Luna.
Could not recommend her enough.
Thank you
Thank you so much
Adolescent Dogs took Nigel in as an untrained street dog on behalf of a charity. Living with his trainer meant that he was given intensive training accompanied by great care and love to give him the all important boundaries for living in a home. One month on from their initial handover to us and with a second brilliant handover to follow-up, his transformation is incredible, all thanks to you. He's a perfect fit for our family and we have been supported so brilliantly by you at every stage, we cannot thank you enough.
We would thoroughly recommend…
We would thoroughly recommend Adolescent Dogs - the service we received from our first enquiry through to the incredible training they did for our puppy and the handover and after care has been incredible. You can tell that they care so much about dogs but also about the individual needs of each dog and also their owners. Our trainer Ola was superb and she has transformed our Labrador puppy - she has been so supportive and provided frequent updates and pictures throughout the training and also detailed follow-up notes. We now have an incredible well behaved dog and real confidence of what we are doing to continue his training.
Thoroughly and highly recommended
Having a boisterous boxer puppy that was growing rapidly was starting to cause concerns for my wife. Solid muscle, full of energy and hard to control. She was walking us, not the other way around.
So a bit of web surfing brought Adolescent Dogs to our attention. Seemed quite expensive at the outset, but reviews were good and we made a commitment to our boxer when we bought her.
From the first enquiry, and the way in which our queries were handled, we started to get more comfortable. And we made a 4 week booking within a few days.
We were also nervous about ‘losing’ our dog for 4 weeks, but from the first meeting with Ola I could tell that our puppy was in safe hands.
From the run-up we were aware that we would get once weekly direct contact, plus weekly updates from Facebook. However that wasn’t the case. We received regular updates and pictures through WhatsApp, and some of the contact was in query to the puppy’s health and well being. For example we had provided a coat that covered her back, but this was through the period of snow and we were informed that this won’t cover her stomach. Ola provided our pup with a better coat through her stay, with advice for us on what to look for in a replacement. The food we had provided was too small for a dog of her size (small kibble), so again we were put on the right track. All in thee right way, and all done with the pup’s welfare in mind.
When we picked the pup up 4 weeks later, we had a 2.5 hour handover to show us how to continue and build upon what had been taught. Another 3 hour handover since then, and another one this weekend because we have one or two minor struggles.
Did we get a perfect dog back? No, but that would be impossible within 4 weeks. We do have a boxer puppy who can walk ‘loose lead’, come when called, has calmed considerably and is far better than we could have imagined. Less stress, calm yet playful puppy and absolutely no regrets for taking this route.
I’m not a review writer as standard, unless there is an exceptional reason for doing so. This is one of those rare instances that fully warrants the time and effort to do so.
Great puppy course
My puppy and I learnt a lot in 8 packed weeks. Great team, with Libby being a very patient teacher. Katie was also very helpful and gave me a lot of useful advice. Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for a puppy training course.
Hi Libby & team from Willow
Hi Libby & team ,
Willow here , just want to say thanks for my present and the classes , really enjoyed it and my parents now know a lot more then when they started, but I keep them on their toes ;-)
As for the the puppy sit-ups I think you humans would say Fi and myself “smashed it at 20” ;-)
Must go , as I’m off to play in the snow as I love it and if I wind them up too much I might be calling on you ;-)
Amy Australian Labradoodle
A big thank you to Lila for showing what can be done. Amy is getting on very well, now she has settled down. As predicted, she was somewhat resistant and challenging for a few weeks but then she became calmer and biddable. I describe below what I feel has been achieved.
Before boot camp, Amy was reasonably well behaved, but she got hysterical when she saw or heard my 2 cats. That was my main reason for sending her away for training. She spent just over 3 weeks with Lila, learning to be calm around her cat and improving her other behaviours as well. It is obvious from the video and from her behaviour around Lila that she really enjoyed the experience. It is fair to say that, as warned, there was still a lot of work to be done when she got home, reinforcing and practising the commands. Now, 2 months later, she is excellent on recall, she stops on command and waits on command, even when she is playing with other dogs. Her other challenging behaviours have steadily diminished and are no longer a problem for me. The cat issue is a work in progress but she is much calmer and I am confident we will get there.
I would not hesitate to send her back to Adolescent Dogs if she needed a top up - and I am sure Amy would be thrilled to work with Lila again
2 weeks training with Sarah
We are delighted with the change in Oreo after just two weeks of training with Sarah. Her behaviour when she left us consisted of very excited weeing everywhere, jumping up, poor toilet training, poor lead walking and minimal obedience. She came back having mastered SIT, LAY DOWN, WAIT, and LEAVE IT; and was greatly improved on toilet manners, lead walking and not jumping up. We have been able to build on this over in the weeks that followed and she is turning into an extremely well behaved and obedient puppy. Thanks so much Sarah.
Would Highly Recommend!
I have to say we were really pleased with the results when Bobbi came home after his stay with Sam. We weren't really sure what to expect but it was immediately clear that he was a much calmer dog. Sam was very clear with her handover as to how best to deal with Bobbi and also showed us the training methods used. We're getting on well - some excitement started to creep in a little but we're managing this well. We had a follow-up session with Sam which was very helpful as she gave us a few additional hints and tips. Bobbi was so happy to see Sam which was great to see.
Overall we've been really pleased with the results and would definitely recommend Adolescent Dogs to anyone considering residential training. While it may not be the cheapest, the most important thing for us was for the stay to be in the home rather than in kennels and for the training to take place over a period of time which would mean greater success, so this suited us well. A lot of friends and family have commented on how much more relaxed Bobbi is which is great to hear.
Cuts, rope burns and a bag of bones!!
Cuts, burn marks and a bag of bones!!!!!Waste of money and time! I would not recommend this company under no circumstance to anyone. Receiving my Belgium Malinois Max who came back worse and false advertisement on your website 'Max has now learnt to focus on his trainer, no pulling on the lead and the remaining nonsense you have plastered on your Facebook page' the only reason why my dog done what he was suppose to do with the 'so called trainer' was due to a lack of food your trainer was feeding my dog! My 29 kilo dog return back home a bag of bones, ribs/bones showing and no muscle left what so ever in fact I was that concerned I took my dog to the vets a couple of days later who inform me that he had lost too much weight in such little time. According to your contract it states that the trainer WILL make contact if there are concerns over weight... where was my phone call? If anyone wants any pictures or vets Heath checks email me. Also after bathing my poor dog who was a Skelton I found rope burn marks and fur missing under his neck where the slip lead was too tight and used with force...again if evidence is required feel free to message me I have the images. When collecting my family pet I was disgusted to find him covered in horse crap where by the looks of it he was staying or kept for a period of time, I arrived an hour early just out of pure luck and noticed the trainer arrive approximately 30 minutes after me...if my dog was with a trainer tell me why did the trainer have to get him out the stables or a building? Surely he would be in the same transit van with the trainer he was apparently staying with.
Do not respond back with a pointless reply of recommending Max to revisit Adolescent as this will never happen, I am absolutely disgusted with how my dog has been treated.

Training a Boxer puppy!
We handed our 12 week old boxer over to Sarah at Adolescent Dogs for two weeks residential training, not expecting miracles. Our vet did say "well you have a boxer!".
We were absolutely delighted with the results, Sarah had obviously worked hard and given Sullivan (our dog) a lot of love and attention.
We continue our obedience training every day as instructed and he is coming along in leaps and bounds.
None of this could have been achieved without the guidance of Adolescent Dogs, I would recommend their residential training to anyone with a puppy or dog that needs retraining.
A great start for our puppy.
A two week residential stay got our puppy off to a great start. We received daily photos from our trainer, Katie which really helped our autistic daughter feel happy about the puppy being away. We have had wonderful support since coming home and we know we can contact Katie for her advice with any issues we are having. We are now doing the 12 week puppy training group and our pup loves seeing Katie each week. This group is helping us with our pups socialisation. I would recommend Adolescent Dogs to any new dog owners.
Amazing progress and results with challenging mini EBT
Amazing progress and results with challenging mini EBT- George spent 4 weeks with Alex who had, despite very difficult start in the first week, achieved results we did not dream of. George was a happy, obedient and playful dog, however after he suffered with skin condition for months, he became nervous and anxious dog which resulted in not enjoying being petted, listening to any commands and getting aggressive when he did not want to do something. By the time George’s skin improved, bad habits remained and some of them worsened. Whilst we were working hard on training and correcting bad behaviour, we were getting nowhere and started to seek help with various trainers, behaviourist but concept of day home visits or skype consultations costing few thousands of £££ were not viable options. We then came across Adolescent Dogs and their concept of residential training was more convincing than anything else we came across and after finding out a little bit more about them we felt this could be the way forward and enrolled George for 4 weeks residential training.
Whilst we did not expect much from the training, it seemed to be the only option for us to try and we truly believe this was the best decision we have ever made for George and for us. All credit goes to Alex who has found the way to deal with the challenges we have had with George and we are well aware this was not an easy task and required someone very special. Alex’s perseverance combined with his talent and skills definitely paid off and we now have a happy dog who enjoys his training, obedience, he fetches which for anyone with a bullterrier is often unthinkable task. On the first day we brought George home we noticed a vast improvement in George's behaviour and he responds to us the way he would not have before. He is nowhere near as nervous as he used to be, no signs of aggression when he does not want to do something he is being asked to. Alex gave us some very valuable tips and the training techniques which we have stick to and it is really rewarding for us all. We know that it will take more time and consistency for us and that George will continue to test us but we both feel more confident with the way we should handle such situations and knowing we can ask Alex for an advice is very helpful. We could not be more pleased with the results Alex had achieved with George and we would not hesitate to recommend Alex to anyone with challenging dog. I only wish we have found Alex earlier.
Best decision we made!
We rehomed Leila, a 6 month old working cocker spaniel, who up until that time had not really be walked on a lead nor learned any form of recall. It soon became apparent that she had learned so many bad habits which we were struggling to undo, and in all honestly, however sweet tempered she was, she was a bit of a nightmare in many scenarios - stealing, running away, jumping all over people and other dogs and generally running riot 24/7 whilst turning 'deaf' to us. We felt we really needed professional help with her, as much for her sake as ours, as we couldn't walk her off lead etc, so felt she was missing out on the best life she could have. We favoured residential training over weekly classes for this little girl, as we so wanted to get her on the right track and residential training ensured she would have 4 weeks of total consistency. The idea that the dog lives with the trainer rather than being kennelled, sealed our decision to send her to Adolescent Dogs, as we knew she'd be comfortable and loved whilst away from home.
The trainer Libby was exceptional. From the moment we met her, during the handover and going on a walk together, it was obvious Libby had great knowledge about different breeds and their specific behaviour / training needs. She was also so kind and loving towards Leila, that we knew our pup would have no trouble settling in at her temporary 'home'. We had twice weekly updates and so many fantastic pics, we knew all was going well and our dog was happy.
It wasn't the cheapest option, but my husband and I both saw it as a long term investment, paying dividends over the lifetime of our pup.
When Leila came back to us, the improvement was amazing. Her obedience was remarkable, and she had obviously formed a very strong bond with Libby which was lovely to see. It was also great to see that Leila had retained all of her joyful personality, though now we could harness her energy and willingness to learn. We didn't receive a robotic dog back of course, we still walk her on the long line, have to be one step ahead of her if we know distractions will pop up, and practice commands every day - it's very much up to the owners to commit to continuing with the training.
During the handover at the end of 4 weeks, Libby went through not only the commands, but also how to deal with any scenarios which may arise, and devoted lots of her time to us before she left. She was very clear that if we felt we needed further help to call her as soon as possible. Indeed I called Libby the week after as was getting worried about Leila not listening during recall, and Libby was back at our house, coming for a walk with me, reminding Leila (and me!) of the rules and showing me again what to do in various situations. Leila behaved like a dream and I was equipped with more knowledge and confidence to keep up with training. It's very comforting to know I can contact Libby in the future if needed, and we'll be booking a top up stay when we go on holiday towards the end of the year.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Adolescent Dogs. They really know their stuff, care about and understand the animals in their care, work on the basis of positive reinforcement and quite honestly were a lifesaver for us.
Libby, thank you!
(As a footnote, when Leila was in training, I followed Adolescent Dogs closely on Facebook as really enjoyed seeing all the updates and videos of the dogs in training. One particular dog was very agressive with their owners, even in day to day scenarios. By the end of its stay, it was on its way to becoming a confident, happy and calm dog. It really brought a tear to my eye as without such professionals, there is every chance that dog would not have had a future. Another shining example of what these professionals can do.)
Invaluable Help and Incredible Results
We were reunited with our dog this morning and I am absolutely blown away by the change. I can now feed him in his crate, get him in and out without problems and have strategies in place to ensure we continue to build on the positive changes that Alex achieved.
Alex has been absolutely brilliant at a time when we, as a family, were at the end of our tether and starting to wonder if we would ever be able to live with a dog who was so very aggressive. Alex has gone above and beyond to help us at a time when we were beginning to believe there was no hope. We now have the confidence and knowledge to continue to build on the amazing work Alex has done with Kasper. He is clearly very talented at what he does and so very patient in helping us understand how best to work with Kasper. We truly didn’t believe anyone could change the downright dangerous behavioural problems Kasper had and could not be happier with the help and support we received throughout.
We would not hesitate to recommend Alex to anyone who is having problems with their dog, no matter how serious. If he is able to help us I’m sure he could help anyone!
