Device never worked + poor Customer Service = Waste of time and money

My device NEVER found the network assigned to it on the device so the password of course didn't work either. This means the service I contracted to get was not delivered.
In addition, communication with Airport Wifi Hire was poor. It took at least 24 hours to get back to me after I emailed with questions and complaints. Questions were never answered. In fact, AWH insisted that I "talk" to them through my Confirmation email. I only had a paper copy of this with me in UK. I took a screen shot but that was not good enough for them. I asked repeatedly for a quick phone conversation but they (finally) said, no they could not do that as they are only on online company. (However, there is a phone number I learned when they sent a final invoice).
Finally, I got someone in the US to go into my PC computer and forward me the email (that was not on my Iphone- ever) and finally they were willing to "talk." At that point they wanted me to tell them what was wrong- I had already done this earlier = incredibly inefficient. All of this was taking way too much time and energy on my vacation so I dropped it off at a post box as they suggest. Guess what? It doesn't fit in the UK post boxes. So, then I had to find a Post Office, which are only open when I could not go (touring in countryside all day). I finally paid a hotel person to bring it to the WHSmith store PO to return. Two other people on my tour also hired from AWH and they were also very dissatisfied and so returned the devices early. I would never recommend this company.

Disappointing Experience with Airport WiFiHire

Overall, my experience with Airport WiFiHire was marked by poor product quality and unsatisfactory customer support. Given my experience, I cannot recommend their service. 

I rented a portable WiFi device from Airport WiFiHire.co.uk for a trip to the UK, Spain and France, locations, they assured me, the device would work in. My troubles began when I traveled from the UK to France and the device connection did not work in the new country. I contacted their support team several times but was met with repeated requests to reply to a specific email thread that (to the best of my knowledge) they had not sent me originally. Finally they sent me the original email and I was able to message and get support. On the backend they perhaps restarted/reprogrammed the device and it was able to connect from that point. This delay trying to identify the email thread to reply in wasted several days of my trip.

Unfortunately, the WiFi device rarely functioned as expected, often requiring constant restarting, charging, button pressing, or adjusting the cord to maintain a connection. Even with troubleshooting suggestions from their support team—mostly involving checking the lights and wiggling the charging cord—the issues often persisted. They also often mentioned that some locations would have poor signal and that it was uncontrollable. I understand signal availability can be variable and recognized when that occurred, however I believe these problems were largely due to the device's unreliable performance rather than location-specific issues. In their defense if it had really been customer error the device only has 4 lights that flash and show various colors to indicate status. It can be confusing and time consuming to understand all possible statuses and seems a bit outdated compared to competitors. 

To make matters worse, upon returning the device to a designated post box, a few days later I received an email from wifihire stating that the package was opened and the device was missing, therefore I would not receive the security deposit they took. This was quite disheartening as they hold their customers responsible for something beyond our control, which for me was a sign of their lack of integrity as a business. 

I hope with this feedback the company can work on improving their product and experience for future customers. For users, I recommend purchasing a local SIM card for a more reliable and cost-effective solution.
