Horrible customer service
Horrible customer service. Nickel and dime. Charged us $40 because for inactivity. They have our money and are using it, yet want to charge us for doing absolutely nothing. Terrible attitudes extremely unprofessional. Worst credit union ever. Charged $30 for three pieces of paper.
After banking with ACU for more than 20…
After banking with ACU for more than 20 yrs, the day has come that I have to start banking with someone else. ACU has been great for me and my banking purposes until today. Today, I learned that I have a withdraw limit on my debit card and that ACU refuses to raise that for me. The thing that irritates me about this - this is MY money. I shouldn't need permission, or jump through so many hoops, to withdraw as much of MY money as I want. I get that customer safety is number one but ACU needs to recognize the customer's rights to their money. So after 20+ yrs, I must say goodbye and move on to a more customer friendly credit union/bank that recognizes a customer's ability to manage our own money.
And before I get a response from a bank manager on this review, I understand I can walk into your location and withdraw cash but that does me no good for my digital transaction needs. I should be able to withdraw as much of my money as I want from my debit card at a moments notice. If you have protections in place to prevent fraud, that's great; you should also have something in place to allow us to take full responsibility for our withdraws.
Do better ACU.
Arapahoe Credit Union - Bogus Fees
I recently experienced an extremely frustrating situation with Arapahoe Credit Union that I feel compelled to share as a warning to others. Their overdraft fee policy is not only unfair but borders on predatory.
Here's what happened: Venmo attempted to pull a payment from an incorrect account with my credit union - an account that didn't have any funds in it. Instead of simply processing this as a declined transaction (which would be the logical response to a request for money from an empty account), the credit union "returned the payment" and then charged me an overdraft/returned item fee for this rejection.
To be clear: this was an empty account that Venmo mistakenly tried to use. The credit union didn't advance any funds or cover any shortage - they literally just said "no" to the transaction, as they should have. Yet they still charged me a fee for this! To make matters worse, this rejection caused Venmo to assess their own returned payment fees against me as well, resulting in double charges for a transaction that never even happened.
This practice feels deliberately designed to extract maximum fees while providing minimum service. The credit union didn't front any money or take any risk - they simply declined a transaction from an empty account, which costs them virtually nothing to do and is exactly what should happen with an account that has no funds.
What's particularly frustrating is the lack of transparency. Many members don't realize that credit unions can charge these fees even when they don't actually cover any payment and even when the attempt was made to the wrong account. It's essentially a "fee for saying no" rather than a fee for a service provided.
I strongly urge Arapahoe Credit Union to reconsider this policy. A financial institution that claims to be member-focused should not be profiting from declined transactions that cost them nothing to process, especially when the transaction was attempted against the wrong account. At minimum, they should waive fees in situations where payment attempts are clearly errors.
For anyone considering this credit union, be extremely careful about which accounts are linked to payment services, and understand that you can be charged significant fees even when no money is advanced on your behalf and even when the transaction is attempted against the wrong account.

Possibly the best small credit union in CO! Friendly staff with little hold time compared to the bigger institutions. Great products and rates. Account Security is taken very seriously as well!

Arapahoe Credit Union was absolutely amazing, I couldn’t have asked for a more seamless process when refinancing my vehicle! I purchased my Hyundai Tucson shortly after having to claim bankruptcy, I haven’t even owned the vehicle for a year and Arapahoe Credit Union was able to refinance my loan, lower my interest rate by almost 9% and in turn lowered my car payment. If you are looking for an easy loan process and being treated like you are a valued customer regardless of your credit score this is definitely the place to go!

I was very impressed for getting a welcome letter and detailed information about my account as well as a bunch of options that helps me understand my loan and links to places that gives me a wider range of what Arapahoe offers for customers with a loan.

Arapahoe Credit Union is Great
I started doing business with ACU over 5 years ago and just kept going. First a used car lone for myself then my daughter. I just did another car lone for my wife shorting my time to pay and saving on interest. And cut my CC interest by 1/2 by consolidating outstanding balances with ACU. Customer service is just icing on the cake.

I recently approached Arapahoe Credit Union for a car loan and was amazed that, even during a pandemic, they were prompt, pleasant, and accommodating. Extremely professional from start to finish! Highly recommended!

Great advice and service!
Today I sought advice about opening a Kasasas account. Before I made the trip to the bank, I chatted with Scott McKerley, online bank manager. He was very knowledgeable and thorough. He answered all of my questions, and helped me feel sure that this was the correct route to take in order to make the most with the money I had to invest. Once I got to the bank, I met with Yadira Duran, and she was also very helpful and patient, educating me about both the Kasasas checking and savers accounts. I am amazed at the amount of money that I will earn in interest each month, and this is going to help me make a decision about retiring earlier than I expected. Very pleased with the service and expertise of ACU!
