Someone recommended this company to represent me in the sale of my business and I somehow ended up with a chap called Azhar Sacranie who was worse than useless. I ended up with a deal that has effectively prevented me from earning a living for a period of 2 years due to the non-compete clause that ended up in the SPA. I felt completely bullied by my buyers and their solicitors and at no point did I feel assisted or guided by Azhar, even when I complained to his superiors (including Giselle Williams) who didn't seem to care whatsoever as all she did was reply to my complaint and cc Azhar in for him to reply to my complaint (which was highly embarrassing!) He wasted so much time due to his incompetency which caused a lot of stress and pushed back the completion date considerably and then had the cheek to charge me more to cover this additional time! All in all, I do NOT recommend this company.

In particular, Helen O Sullivan and her team have ensured that my numerous, and sometimes difficult, conveyancing matters have been expedited promptly and efficiently. I have no hesitation in recommending AST Hampsons to anyone seeking a cost effective, professional service.

I instructed Zoe and Louise to deal with a sale and purchase. Professional, easy to work with and patient. I have recommended the firm twice already.

My leasehold states that there is a common pathway that surrounds the row of terrace houses where I live. It also states that the leaseholders are responsible for maintaining and repairing the common pathway.
When I purchased my property I was told that no one is allowed to block the pathway in any way. So when the end terrace took the side pathway and enclosed it as part of their back yard with a locked gate I was concerned. This meant that I could not access my back door without going through their locked gate and back yard. This would cause huge problems for me with access as the emergency services would not be able to access my home (they have key access at my back door) no safe place for parcels to be left, can't have a window cleaner and loads of other issues.
I made an appointment with a solicitor at Hampsons and was told that having a locked gate on the pathway was a criminal offence under the Highways Act and that my neighbour could be reported to the enforcing authority, Rochdale Council and the Police. The solicitor sent a letter to my neighbour telling them this.
My neighbour got the letter and phoned the Council to be told that the solicitor's letter was not true.
My neighbour was then accusing me of harassment and the letter has made the situation much worse.
I complained to Hampsons on the 13th December 2024, they ignored my email so I sent it again on the 20th December 2024, by this time they were on their Christmas break.
I got a response on the 13th February 2025 saying their solicitor got it wrong, they have identified a training issue and they will refund my costs. Training issue???? This is a basic leasehold and a solicitor should understand the basics. I asked if he was sure about his advice and he said he was.
I do not think my complaint has been fully investigated or that they have understood the reason I went to them for advice. They seem to think I didn't understand my leasehold, but I did, it is their solicitor who did not understand it and he has made a difficult situation almost impossible.
They then did not follow their complaints policy and totally ignored me and my complaint so I had to report them to the Legal Ombudsman.
Such highly unprofessional people who could not do the decent thing to put things right. I was eventually refunded my fees plus £250 but this was eight months after they made the mistake. They also agreed to write to my neighbour to apologise but I have not seen a copy of that letter so not sure if it was much of an apology or not as the letter of apology to me was not up to much. They clearly think they are better than me but at least I own any mistake I make as soon as I make them and I would never ignore someone the way they ignored me. They are shameful.

During my house move I suddenly had to change solicitors. My mortgage adviser told Anna about my situation and within the day she had rang me, the old solicitor and the mortgage company and took the reins of the move.
Im not sure I would have done it without Hampsons.
I would recommend Anna and her team to anyone but especially if you are anxious and not sure about the moving process, you will by the end because they will explain everything. 5 + stars

The team were always readily available when I called into the office in person. They were knowledgeable about the steps of a house sale and purchase, and strived to do their very best for us. Helpful advice was given and they ensured that we were happy with each detail before anything got the green light.

Have given 4 stars as we would have felt calmer if we received a confirmation email in response to any emails we sent, just so we knew that the email had been received and would be acted upon (even if it would be a few days before this happened). Also, sometimes when we left a message for a callback, we didn't always receive one the same day. We appreciate that the industry is non-stop and lots of sales/purchases are happening and possibly an email acknowledgement of the need for a callback would have been usefull.

So slow and stressful. Worst legal firm I've ever encountered. They delayed a transaction that all parties wanted to proceed with and caused huge amounts of unnecessary distress

AST HAMPSONS acted for me to obtain a financial consent order following my divorce. My solicitor, Nathalie, was professional, approachable, assertive and empathetic. She worked hard to see my matter through. I was over the moon with the service that I received and the results they achieved spoke for themself! Thank you Nathalie and the rest of the Bury team.

I could not recommend these solicitors enough! We have dealt with James Taylor for both buying and selling our property. He is very efficient, responsive and keeps us in the loop with the process. We are having trouble getting in touch with our buyers solicitors and James has been pressing this issue and has been very honest about the situation. Although the sale has not yet completed, James has made the process of selling a house as straight forward as possible and acted quickly when any problems arose... it's just unfortunate there have been some hiccups on the otherside out of James' control.

I was considerably inconvenienced and negatively impacted financially by the time James Taylor (Partner) took to complete a simple task. A task that could have been turned around in a matter of minutes, took 1 month.
When approached about the matter on the telephone, he was unhelpful and reluctant to speak about it, ultimately stating that his excessive workload contributed to the delay, but making no apology.

We used AST for the sale and onward purchase. Ged and Melanie were fantastic throughout and would definitely recommend.
