Recommended by our architect due to previous positive experience. The finished product is stunning (although as yet unfinished). The whole process and communication has been poor. Several delays due to installation cancellation by BSD. Initial set of doors had to be re-made due to discrepancies with agreed design and function. Still waiting for a panel of scratched glass to be replaced. Have had to chase BSD at every stage of the process. No further contact from the company to complete the job for several weeks.

One of the best companies I dealt with as part of my renovation - super responsive, always helpful, turned up when then said they would and a really high quality product. I love the doors - they turned out even better than I imagined!

Building regulations required FD30 fire doors to be installed during total refurbishment of our two bed flat. Fearing this would ruin the whole design aesthetic, I set out to find a solution. Crittall style doors offered the style solution but not within budget. I stumbled across Black Steel Doors and after visiting the showroom in Wembly, the adventure began. From start to finish this company excelled. The Customer Service was very personal throughout keeping me updated and making our project feel special. The fitters were highly professional, clean and efficient and went out of their way to find a solution to an issue with the flooring catch. The workmanship can be seen at a glance and the doors have added a contemporary feature that all visitors comment on. I cannot recommend Black Steel Doors highly enough, working with them was a pleasure.

We have specified products from Black Steel Doors for two projects now and are very happy with the results. The products are of an excellent quality, and the main contractor fed back how professional the installation team were - taking care not to damage nearby finishes. We researched various fabricators for Crittall style products, and found Black Steel Doors were able to give more options than others - which gave us more design flexibility. Lead in times are generally long, which needs to be factored into the overall programme.

Recently had sliding doors installed by this company, and I couldn't be more pleased. The doors glide smoothly, and the finish is simply beautiful. They make such a difference to the light in my home. Highly recommend

After giving salesman the measurements and taking a lenghty video call so he could see exactly what the job was he asked for half the deposit which we did.
They sent the installer out for a site visit and he told us it would not work!!
We agreed to pay the £350 for the site visit which really wasn't our fault and we are still waiting for over £1500 refund been 2 weeks now and everyone seems to be on annual leave.

Some challenges during installation but these were addressed and now happy with the final product.

Wow, I cannot recommend more. If youre looking for classic black framed doors, with the ability to customise the size, shape and layout of the doors, this is the company to go with. The finish of our doors is beyond our expectations, everyone has commented that they look like theyve always been there. Not even a scratch on the paintwork to the left and right of where they have been fitted. To say we are impressed is a huge understatement. 10/10 and brilliant team!

Doors arrived with the wrong handles, missing handle plates, misaligned window bars and wrong colour window bar.
Installation of doors was delayed by numerous excuses and has taken over 4 weeks as the workers are regularly told to go to other jobs. I generally didn’t get the same worker twice. All payments had to be paid up front though!
Items have since been fixed but have since had no communication from the company.

We ordered some fire rated doors in a non-standard bronze colour for our extension & are really happy with them, it’s a high quality product at a competitive price.

The survey was very comprehensive, with clear instructions for our builders on how to leave the opening and then the fitters arrived when they said they would, communicated well over any smaller decisions & left no mess.

We had to chase for a quote & for installation date, but they responded quickly - overall a really good experience and a great product.

We are really thrilled with our steel doors the look really really stylish. The whole process of having them measured and fitted was brilliant the staff have all been very professional, helpful and so polite we would really recommend them.

I strongly caution against using this company following my recent experience of using their services.

I contracted Black Steel Doors Ltd to install one of their products in my home in July 2023. My initial experience of the company through the sales process was favourable. However, as soon as contracts had been signed and monies paid, the level of service quickly changed. Throughout the 5 month period I have been dealing with this company, I have experienced multiple issues which have ultimately resulted in a poor quality product and defective installation.

To summarise the key issues: (1) there is no proactive communication so you will need to chase for all updates, appointments, etc; (2) their teams do not attend agreed appointments so you will invariably give up whole days waiting for them to arrive (including occasions where they do not show up at all with no explanation); (3) the installation timelines cannot be relied upon (I was told to expect a “half day installation” whereas in reality it has taken almost 3 months over 6 separate visits); (4) the installation quality is very poor (hence the 6 visits) so you will need to inspect their work very carefully; (5) they do not install according to the agreed specification and are dishonest until presented with signed drawings contradicting their claims about what was originally agreed; (6) they will attend appointments without all necessary tools and/or materials which will delay the installation; (7) when installation faults are pointed out, the installation team will tell you “that is normal” in an attempt to avoid corrective works, or make sub-standard adjustments that no credible company would deem acceptable; (8) they will leave your property at short notice because they need to attend another job (which apparently takes precedence despite having agreed your appointment in advance).

At times I have been confronted with incredulity for my expectation that the door they installed would simply open and close properly (which it did not) and match the specifications I had ordered (which it did not). After the sixth visit, I now have a door that does open and close but only with force, and the whole installation is visibly misaligned. It is a fire door, so the installation is not fit for purpose. I have given up trying to hold this company to account and chose to sign-off the installation so I could conclude my dealings with them. I have done this with much hesitation and regret, but ultimately the pursuit of legal recourse is economically prohibitive and instead I will now instruct a competent installation company to repair the various faults.

Throughout the whole process, I have received very well-rehearsed apologies and commitments to improvement from the company. However, those commitments were never met and ultimately the service got worse, not better. I wrote to the Managing Director of the company on two occasions but she chose not to respond.

Do not be fooled by the slick marketing and sales process. Once you have paid over your money your experience will be significantly poorer (note: their payment terms require full payment prior to installation, so you have no leverage when things go wrong).

UPDATE ON 3 JAN 2024 IN RESPONSE TO FEEDBACK BELOW: The feedback provided by Black Steel Doors to my original review is shockingly dishonest. While it is true (as reflected in my review) that they attended multiple times, their visits actually resulted in the installation becoming worse, not better and they certainly did not work "diligently" to correct all the issues. The reply below would seem to suggest that, after 6 visits, I should still be willing to accept further incompetence and dishonesty. As I stated in my original review, I strongly recommend avoiding this company unless you wish to waste large sums of money and time.
