I have to admit I was quite surprised to read this, particularly as we had a perfectly polite conversation on the telephone this morning and I came away believing we had resolved the issue.

For the benefit of anyone reading this, your attempts to contact us over the previous two days were made over the weekend, when our office is closed. During the beekeeping season we work extremely long hours, but like most agricultural businesses we cannot provide a full telephone service seven days a week.

When you called this morning, I was in the middle of preparing and candying queen cages for dispatch. This is a time-critical process and I was unable to answer the phone immediately. We have recently introduced an automated answering system for occasions exactly like this, so that customers can leave their details and receive a callback rather than simply reaching an engaged tone or no answer at all. The system is not intended to replace customer service, only to ensure that nobody is completely ignored if we are away from the desk or working with live bees.

I returned your call as soon as I was able, approximately 30 minutes later. During that conversation, I apologised for the delay and we discussed the issue you were experiencing with the website. It became clear that the problem was not that the website was changing your order, but that you were attempting to add a greater number of queens than we had available in stock. The website was correctly restricting the quantity and displaying the maximum available.

You also advised me during our call that you had already purchased queens from another supplier, which is of course entirely your choice and I wished you well with them.

What I find disappointing is that, despite us speaking directly, despite an apology being offered, and despite no purchase actually being made, you have chosen to leave a 1-star review describing us as unreliable. As a long-standing customer, you will know that we are a working bee farm handling millions of bees each season, not a large call centre, and there are occasions when practical beekeeping work has to take priority for short periods of time.

Looking back over our previous correspondence, we have always tried to assist you and resolve any issues you have raised. We work incredibly hard to maintain the level of service that has earned us our reputation and thousands of satisfied customers, so it is disappointing to see that one conversation, where a callback was made within a short time and the matter was discussed, has resulted in such a damaging public review.

As no order was placed and the issue was fully explained over the telephone, we do not feel that this review fairly reflects the service provided and have therefore asked for it to be reviewed by the platform.

Nevertheless, I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations, and I genuinely wish you every success with your season ahead.
