Profit over quality! No bottled diet drinks

Profit over quality! Can’t assure quality as you can’t get any bottled diet soft drinks. Unfortunately they seem to be eveywhere now; taking over some good old pubs and losing my business.

Lamb inn Axbridge…

I recently visited Lamb inn Axbridge and had an amazing experience! From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming and vibrant. The decor is charming, and it really sets the perfect mood for a relaxing evening.

The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. I tried the Rump streak, and it was absolutely delicious—definitely a highlight of the night! The selection of beers/cocktails/food is impressive, catering to all tastes.

What really stood out was the sense of community. It felt like a place where everyone knows each other, which made my visit even more enjoyable. I can’t wait to come back.

Highly recommend Lamb Inn Axbridge for anyone looking for great food, drinks, and a fantastic atmosphere. Robert

Overpriced and grubby.

Pub was grubby, staff were arguing and they did not declare or mention the 10% service charge on 2 small sandwiches and 2 pints served at the bar that already now cost me £42. Outrageous price, undersized portions, underwhelming food, hidden service charge, dirty tables and off staff make this a pub or chain I will never return too.

Terribly unprofessional…

Got me in for a head chef trial at one of their pubs, kitchen was I would say a immediate Health and safety failure, fridges unlabelled, off produce everywhere, made me spend nearly three hours of my time unpaid, cooking a steak and oven chips off their menu and then asked me to do a cook off (is it the 90's still) to prove I could cook wetherspoon style food at central London prices. The area roaming head chef had given unbeknownst to me an out of date steak to cook, which in itself was shocking and embarrassing for me. Then because the company executive chef couldnt take a breath from eating to learn a buy of self dignity or respect for others, I continued to struggle on improvising what was expected of me. Then I whipped up a lovely dish out of nothing basically, from their poorly organised fridge for a cook off and then basically got told the exec was too busy to give me two minutes of his time and they would be in touch, the guys clearly thought he was a lot more skilled than he was. They then never had the respect to call me and say, we've gone with another applicant, but thanks for your time. I didn't want the role after seeing how they operate anyway, but a bit of respect to just say thank you after the trial would be common practice.

The staff and food made this stay good. Unfortunately the housekeeping let it down a lot. The room was nice but tired, had a few issues. The room wasn't very clean on arrival, duvet cover was inside out and ripped, no mattress cover so could see stains. We stayed Friday till Monday and the housekeeper didn't service our room at all despite leaving the sign on the door, so we had to find staff to ask for toilet rolls, milk and coffee. Room was said to have a coffee maker and fan but didn't have either.
It's a shame because the staff were otherwise amazing and the food was beyond good.

Great products, awful service.

I placed an order in November. One of the products was a pre-order for a Christmas themed product. It was not clear that the entire order would not be fulfilled until Christmas.

Then lo and behold the order has not been dispatched on the date agreed and therefore won’t be delivered in time. Worse, as they are clearly struggling, at some point in the intervening 7 weeks, they’ve changed the wording.

When raising both issues the fault was clearly mine. No apology offered. Note that I proved with a screenshot them at their courier also agreed with my anticipated delivery timeline yet it’s still me the customer that must be wrong.

Great products, awful customer service. No wonder all breweries ending up getting bought out by two major conglomerates.

Negative experience at Prince of Burford - lovely pub but staff don't seem to like customers!

We don’t like to leave negative reviews, as we believe that good customer service is as much about resolving issues as how good an experience is. However, it's seven days since we emailed Butcombe's Head Office and we've had no response, despite receiving an automated message stating that they would usually reply within 72 hours, so the email definitely reached them.

We stayed at the Prince of Burford for a get-together with some friends we don’t see very often, as they live at the other end of the UK. We usually really enjoy staying in Butcombe pubs and eating in their restaurants, however this experience has really put us off doing so again for the following reasons:

Saturday 28 October

- We followed the express check-in guidelines prior to arrival. However when we arrived, we were told quite brusquely that our rooms weren’t ready and to take a seat somewhere while we waited. They said they were short-staffed so the housekeeper was on their own, yet we were greeted by two members of staff sat at reception - surely one of them could have given the housekeeper a hand? There were other guests were in the foyer also waiting to check in.
- We paid extra for the dog but we were in the smaller of the two rooms which was very cramped with the three of us.
- I booked a table for dinner weeks ago, but when we got to the restaurant we were told by the manager that we couldn’t sit there with the dog. When we booked a dog-friendly room and paid extra, it should have been communicated that the dog wasn’t allowed in the restaurant. Instead, we were told we would have to move to the bar area to eat, where there was a rugby match on the TV and most tables were reserved. I think at that point we were either forgotten about or it was assumed we knew it wasn’t table service, as we didn't receive our starters for at least 30 minutes, our mains until 9:30pm and dessert until gone 10:00pm (our table had been booked for 7:30pm). We had to chase them several times and at no point was there an apology for the lateness of the meal. Whilst the food was very good as always, the experience really impacted on our evening as we were only staying for one night.
- Our bed was broken and sloped down quite far on one side, resulting in a very poor night’s sleep for my husband

Sunday 29 October

- On awakening, we couldn’t make a hot drink - the coffee only came in sachets of ground coffee but there was no cafetiere. Nor was there any milk, so we couldn't make a cup of tea and aren’t big fans of black tea. Our friends didn’t have any milk in there room either.
- At breakfast, when our drinks finally arrived, we were given pots of tea without any lids and told that they had all gone missing. We had to put our saucers on top of them to keep the tea hot, which was less than ideal. This was exacerbated by the fact that there were a number of uncleared tables with teapots on them with lids on - surely somebody could have washed two up for us or given us the option of using the lids as they were?
- It was then some time before our food order was asked for. We all ordered the Full English, but when it arrived, it was announced that they had run out of mushrooms and butter for our toast. Could they not have told us this before the meals were cooked so we had the option of substituting the mushrooms for something else? Or sent somebody to the shop? And surely they normally order enough for the number of bookings they have, at the very least. It was only an hour into breakfast service, so they couldn’t have had very much to start with.

Whilst we were aware that they were short-staffed and sympathised, we unfortunately felt that the general poor customer service and communication and brusque approach of some members of staff went beyond just staffing issues.

It’s a real shame, but we feel it’s only fair that other potential guests have an accurate picture of the Prince of Burford before making a booking.

Unbelievable experience

Had an almost unbelievable experience at the high corner inn yesterday. The manager, who wouldn't give us his name, only "go away", turned our entire party (20 people) away because he wasn't happy that someone in our party had left a 1* review on Tripadvisor after initially struggling to get hold of them to book a table. People are allowed to review experiences and interactions with businesses and if you're not happy with those reviews, then you should sit down and look at why and then as a business, make a conscious effort to rectify those issues.

However, as soon as we entered the pub, the manager asked the lead booker if he was the person who left a 1* review and straight away refused to then serve anyone in the group. We had people in this party travel from as far as Essex to meet at the High Corner Inn for a remembrance lunch and a walk in the New Forest. To simply refuse to serve anyone in the group because the manager didn't like that someone had left a review on the struggle to book a table is shocking. Surely the logical thing to do was to serve the group and then ask to amend the review to reflect the new experience? Instead, the manager had premeditated that he wasn't going to serve us when we arrived.

This is appalling behaviour from a customer facing business. Customers are fully entitled to leave reviews once they've had a positive or negative interaction with a business - that's just life. Due to the actions of the manager you've now gained a few more 1* reviews and 20 people who will never return. How a business can operate in this manor is damn right baffling.

Appalling customer service avoid at all costs. Checked website and then set off driving several miles to lunch. Arrives each table set knives and forks condiments - only a few tables occupied - lady behind bar - order glass of wine and pint of cider and I look for menus - children's menu is out on bar but not adult - say to my husband we are both stood at bar right in front of the lady - only children's menus can you ask for the main menu - she waits put my wine down and then says kitchen is closed until 5pm. She is struggling to get a pint of cider and my husband says as you are struggling and no food only a half and a bag of crisps. We sit down and the table in the corner is served food (it is 12.40pm) - say to each other odd do they stop serving at 12.30pm. Finish drinks and as we go to leave the same lady is handing out menus to another table - we wait and then say you told us kitchen is closed until 5pm - told it is unless you book and you could have had chips - say you didn't tell us that you specifically told us it was closed until 5pm and served us a bag of crisps - told no my fault manager told me to say that. Appalling if we'd been offered chips would have ordered and if she'd told us no food we wouldn't have ordered drinks but she clearly knew that and wanted us to pay for drinks. Nothing on website or in the pub to explain no food unless table booked in advance today. Surprised and disappointed that Butcombe Pubs operates in this way.

Menu has changed wasn’t impressed…

Menu has changed wasn’t impressed really but was there so we had lunch it was ok nothing special we had two cards to get two free coffees after collecting stamps for a very long time to be told we need loyalty card to obtain the free coffees shame the whole time I been Collecting know one told me before hand 🙄 went to pay the bill service charge added without my permission was never asked but was however told it’s optional so I asked for it to be removed if I can’t have my free coffees you can’t have the service charge. I do recall staff used to ask if we wanted to add service / tips charge so now they don’t ask very wrong in my mind not at all professional will never go back there now I’ve lost trust in this new way !!! If anyone actually finds a complaints department please share I’ve looked all over the net and there’s no head office 🤔

Dundas arms

Dundas arms Location is loverly but that’s as far as it goes
Pricing is all wrong overcharged twice
Missing prices on menu

Outside the tables are a disgrace glassware all over tables had to clear our own table

And our fiends finished their meal before ours arrived but ordered same time
Food was cold and the staff over worked and un interested
Really poor experience won’t return

Stayed at Ring O Bells

Stayed at Ring O Bells, Compton Martin.
Pleasant location. Everything clean. Comfortable bed. Staff clearly working hard.
Room separate from main building. No phone. No hair dryer. Heater not working (manager provided an extra duvet). Toilet not flushing properly.
No cereals, fruit or juices offered at breakfast.
Evening meal fine. Asked for the bill to be put on our room tab. When checking out had to ask for receipt. After leaving I realised that they had added a £6 gratuity without my permission.
I shall need to travel to the area on several occasions in the future but shall certainly not stay there again or recommend it. Overpriced and a great disappointment.

Best pub roast ever

We were staying at the caravan club site next door to The Cottage Inn. Our first night we went in for the Sunday roast, superb. The best pub roast I’ve ever had. Decent portion size with all the trimmings. It was so good we returned on night two. This time fish & chips and the fish cakes. Again, fantastic. The pub was buzzing, really busy for a Monday. The staff were pushed but still excellent. Well worth a visit. Erica was superb too. Will definitely return next time we are in Bristol

Non existent communcation

Paid for an order 31/10 which suggested 3 - 5 days. Recieved instant order confirmation. Nothing since, now 17/11. Phone is engaged or hangs up. info email hasnt been responded to, havent replied to messenger or a comment on facebook. concerned i have lost my money. quite patient given the world we are in now but feel this is exessively poor. would not recommend

Allow a week or more for a delivery

I placed an online order for a 9 pint keg of beer, at 9.37am on a Monday morning. It was to be delivered, hopefully in time for a small group of friends who were to be tasting a number of beers on the Friday evening of that week. I immediately received an acknowledgement of my order via email. On Wednesday morning I had had no further messages regarding despatch etc, so I rang Butcombe Brewery, they seemed to acknowledge there had been some problem at their end, but as soon as the carrier had the goods I would get and email. On Thursday morning still no emails, so I rang Butcombe again, again they seemed relaxed and said the beer would be delivered on Friday. Friday arrived, guess what, no emails, so I rang Butcombe yet again, and asked for a tracking number. I was was able to track the consignment from DHL's website, and it did indeed say it was out for delivery. However, it never arrived. Sadly I had to explain to the guests that Butcombe was a no show. On saturday I tracked the consignment again and it said in was in the depot, and wasn't going anywhere. Monday morning, a week after ordering, I rang Butcombe and told them I was cancelling. Butcombe told me I couldn't cancel as the goods were now with the carrier, I said I would refuse the delivery. Finally, butcombe did communicate by email to confirm my refund, and very quickly. This whole farce was a great shame and a waste of their time and mine. I shan't bother to try and order from them again and I'd advise anyone who does to get some sort of commitment regarding a delivery time.
