Carplatesdirect

Just a speedy service with quality plates

Excellent hassle free service and good quality.

Fantastic service and very quick delivery.

All I can say is I ordered my Plates around 7pm on Thursday 24/09 & they arrived in perfect condition via Evri on Saturday 26/09 at around 3pm, Id call that excellent service and well worth 5Stars 👍

I ordered a front and rear number plate from Car Plates Direct. My order confirmation described them as Vehicle: Car, Size: Standard Car, Typestyle: Standard Font. There was no clear warning on the confirmation saying “NOT ROAD LEGAL” or that the plates could not legally be used on a vehicle.

I later took my car to a Hyundai main dealer, who recorded on the service sheet that the registration plates did not meet legal requirements and recommended replacement. I therefore had to pay for another set of plates.

When I contacted Car Plates Direct, they refused to refund me and said I had selected “show plates”. Their response was simply that show plates had been selected through the custom plate option and that they printed the design submitted.

As an ordinary customer, I do not think it is reasonable to expect someone to automatically know that the phrase “show plates” means “not road legal”. A simple, prominent warning stating “NOT ROAD LEGAL – FOR DISPLAY USE ONLY” would have removed any possible confusion.

This is particularly concerning because the website prominently promotes road-legal replacement number plates. I believed I was buying normal plates for use on my car, especially as my order described them as standard car plates.

I would strongly advise anyone ordering to check very carefully exactly what they are buying and whether the plates are legally compliant for road use. I would not have purchased these plates had it been made clear that they were not road legal.
