At the last minute Equity bank decided to withhold $100,000 from the amount that was approved. This was because I had an arrears on my property tax amount that resulted from EMPAC backdating their assessment by 2 years. I could not pay the reassessed amount, but I did pay my monthly tax bill for 2 years after this exorbitant tax reassessment.
I explained all of this to the agent but his boss would not reconsider the $100,000 withholding.
So on a home valued at $1,840,000 I got a reverse mortgage payment of $200,000 which I think is very unfair.

I would like to thank the team at Home Equity Bank, especially Adam Fotias, for helping me negotiate the loan process quickly and efficiently.
I would recommend the Home Equity Bank as an effective means of adding to your retirement resources.

The person who handled my application, Agnes, was great as were her communication skills and client focused demeanour.
She did her best to work toward our goal of obtaining the funding.
That being said this was a lengthy process , starting in mid September 2025 and ending January 13, 2026 with the funds being provided.
Despite a few setbacks, Agnes
pushed on to tackle any obstacle that we encountered.

I would definitely recommend Home Equity Bank to anyone that wants to obtain a chip mortgage.

Thank you for asking. Initially all was progressing along, with the hopes of a fall start on our renovations. With an educated guess of 3-4 weeks to having money to start outside work in mind, it soon became a nightmare that finally finished, in early January 2026. Eight Weeks! Too late todo much of anything before or after the holidays. Your staff were very attentive as were our lawyers, but the 'legal team' seemed to cause all the delays by hunting down a 30+year old closed mortgage that needed to be discharged! Give me a Break! To boot, all legal expenses appear to be double of those quoted. Certainly not reasonable, Senior considerations! Sorry, but I feel I'm being generous with three stars over all. Two of them for the staff trying to cover up or help in other ways.

The representative that helped us through completing and submitting our application had a professional manner but also made us feel comfortable, answering all of our questions throughout the process. He encouraged us to ask questions and to not hesitate to connect with him as needed.

Our CHIP Specialist, Aaron Yanover was absolutely wonderful to work with. He paved the way, making a difficult process for us much easier. Knowledgable and patient, Aaron is an excellent communicator who made sure we were completely informed every step of the way. It was a big decision that involved relocation, several road blocks and basically a lot of aggravation. Aaron was always easily accessible and available to calmly answer questions and provide solid navigation guidance. We followed the protocols and Aaron went above and beyond to ensure that everything moved forward smoothly and ahead of schedule. He is an excellent representative of CHIP and Home Equity Bank. I dealt with Angela Lettuca from day one, and couldn’t be happier with the way she was able to guide and support me through the whole process. Especially in the time that I run into some issues and they needed to be addressed. She was always available and just an email away even during her time off.
It was a very personal and friendly experience that is hard to find.
