Claire Austin Hardy Plants is a specialist mail order plant nursery that's built it's reputation on supplying quality hardy perennials. I was emailed with an offer of £6.50…
I was emailed with an offer of £6.50 off 3 of the same iris varieties. So I spent a good while choosing which variety to buy, and added them to my basket. No sign of any discount. I tried a few times, with no luck, so took screenshots and emailed the company for help.
I received a reply saying the discount would show when I reached the checkout. So I tried again, numerous time...no discount. I emailed again, and received a reply that the 3 £9.50 iris would show as £21 in the basket. I tried again - multiple times, even used different browsers. Still £28.50 plus postage! I then phoned and left a message, as the offer was due to finish soon. No reply, no call back!
I was absolutely gutted!
EDIT - I owe Claire Austin's an apology for misunderstanding the offer in the email. However as I'd sent several screenshots of the irises I was trying to purchase via email, and none of the replies told me this iris was not included in the offer, I was none the wiser. Had I been informed, then I wouldn't have wasted so long trying to buy irises that were not discounted! Errors on both sides, but I apologise for mine in any case.

We're sorry for the confusion you seem to have experienced regarding the discounted iris offer.
The offer was an email to subscribers to our newsletter and clearly stated "we've decided to do a one off special offer on the eight varieties pictured".
Having now looked at the emails you sent over the weekend we can see that you were expecting a discount on irises that were not pictured or directly linked from the email photographs and were not part of the promotional offer.
We hope that you and others will view the offer email (offer now expired and not valid) and see that the offer was clearly explained within the email text

As with many family owned and run businesses and as stated on our website, our office hours are Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, allowing us to complete tasks uninterrupted outside of those hours and also allow some 'down time'. Accordingly, a response to your telephone call should not have been expected.
Unfortunately after great sales, the offer ended on Sunday, meaning that you missed out on the offer, though as mentioned previously the irises you had chosen off our website would never have been eligible for the £6.50 saving anyway.
We imagine your frustration was enhanced by not receiving a reply clarifying things over the weekend.
OUR CLAIRE AUSTIN HARDY PLANTS REPLY AMENDMENT in relation to your amended review is as follows:
Thank you very much for having the good grace to amend your review. We were genuinely sorry to hear of your experience and never intend that any contact with our British owned, family run business is anything other than an enjoyable experience.
It appears there were 'crossed wires' with the communication, with us not realising at the time that you were trying to buy irises not included in the offer and you not realising the irises you were attempting to buy were outside of the offer . We apologise for the misunderstanding on our behalf. We always appreciate feed back and hope that we can conclude the experience and move forward with a positive outlook.

1. Delayed delivery due to heat wave. Smart move from a company that cares about their product.
2. Incredibly well designed packaging. My neighbour had taken the package in as we were out for the day. He handed it to me sideways (despite the label) and my hopes weren't high that the plants had survived transit then storage on their sides. They were all in perfect condition, not a speck of soil out of place, they just needed a good water.
Highly recommend and will definitely use again

Delighted.
This is the second time this year I have ordered from Claire Austin Hardy Plants. Both times, the plants have been in the most fantastic condition, and surprisingly large, given they are in 9cm pots. I am so delighted.
I have ordered from other online plant retailers, and the plants I've received haven't come anywhere near the quality of Claire Austin's. This is my go to online plant supplier from now on.

Excellent plants received, They were delivered by Royal Mail 24 hr so arrived in great condition. They came on time, and to my house as it was Royal Mail. Ordered Geranium phaeum and Geum. All well rooted, packed very well. Couldn't be more pleased.

Exceptional quality. Plants arrived well packaged and unharmed every time.
Obviously they require planting out correctly, and nurturing for the first month or so, but they are all thriving, and I believe this comes from the nursery you buy from. Clearly they know how to supply quality plants.
All individual orders were over 130 quid. Zero issue with any plant. Fantastic.

Where to start...simple
Where to start...simple, just go to her website and start filling the shopping basket. Never having shopped before, i knew i was in safe hands due to the pedigree which runs in the family, namely, the world famous rose breeder. There is a great selection of plants to choose from, wonderfully priced and upon very safe arrival of my precious hardy geraniums saw that attention to detail is high on the list. Each 9cm pot plant was much bigger than i had first expected, some even had flowers on. Each very securely wrapped and nothing broken or sloshed about, unlike some other bigger online shops i could mention, where all you receive is a twig and a leaf. So, yes i would say you get great value for money, the website is simple and easy to use as was checkout. Ordered on the monday and was planting them the friday of the same week. My only little gripe, would be to have some more information about each plant and recommend more companion plants, so to build a garden full of colour as easy as possible. E.g. as youve added this to the basket, why not add these for a wonderful display of year long interest, just a thought. Though that could be very dangerous for my wallet. Thank you.

Good healthy plants
Recently received 2 orders from Claire Austin plants all hardy perennials. Both arrived quickly and well packed to prevent any damage to the plants. The plants themselves were healthy. I repotted them into bigger pots to grow on before I plant them out into the garden later this spring or early summer however they can be planted out straight away. There is an excellent choice of plants.

I have bought David Austin roses for…
I have bought David Austin roses for many years with great success so last year when I wanted some perennials I turned to Claire Austin. Spurred on by great reviews I went ahead and ordered.
I ordered the cottage garden bundle, 6 ornamental grasses and a black eyed susan. Now some of them didn't look too good when they arrived, but the website did say don't worry if they look dead they will be fine.
I wasn't expecting at lot in the first year and some grew more than others. The black eyed susan did particularly welI with a lot of beautiful blooms. I looked after them as per online instructions.
However as the garden starts to wake up, 3 of the cottage garden bundle are dead, 2 look like they are going the same way. 3 of the grasses are not good either. Black eyed susan is also dead, so disappointed. In complete contrast the others are strong and healthy. Very disappointed considering the price.
