Credit unions can consider all loan applications from people in our communities, regardless of background, including those who are in receipt of benefits. A credit Union is also a not-for-profit organisation, our focus is on improving the financial well-being of our members and helping the local community.

How we can help

Loans

loans We offer loans from £50 up to £15,000 and with fast decisions online, no hidden fees or penalties and we consider all applicants, regardless of circumstances.

Savings

loans Our flexible, easy access savings accounts offer great value for everyone! Whatever you are saving for, saving regularly helps you to manage your money better.

Current Account

loans Manage your normal day-to-day spending. You can pay bills, set up direct debits or standing orders and receive any salary or benefit payments.

Why we are different

What sets us apart from mainstream banking institutions is that we are a not for profit co-operative organisation. This means that money that members make and save from being a member stays in the local community. By coming together as a co-operative it gives all members access to low cost loans, as little as 8.7% APR.

As an ethical lender we assess each loan application on individual circumstances thereby enabling us to consider everyone, irrespective of their credit status or personal circumstances.

When you join Clockwise you benefit from becoming a shareholder; and all cash surplus generated is divided between our members as interest on savings & rewards for good borrowers.

Members are central to everything we do and are the heart of our strategy.

Not people centred at all, go elsewhere

I’ve had an extremely disappointing and stressful experience with this credit union. Even with guaranteed salary‑deduction repayments, I’ve been left waiting over a week with no update, no explanation, and no sense that anyone actually cares about the impact this delay has on real people.

I’ve been asked to submit the same documents multiple times, despite them already having everything. The whole process feels disorganised and like nobody is actually looking at your application.

The staff are not people‑focused at all. Even when they know you’re struggling, even when you explain that your children are without food and you’re ineligible for help anywhere else, there is zero compassion. You’re met with robotic, scripted responses that make you feel like you’re talking to a machine, not a human being. Carole in particular was dismissive and made me feel like I was an inconvenience for simply asking for an update after waiting so long.

None of your history matters — not paying on time, not paying early, not being reliable. You’re treated like you’re beneath them for even asking for help.

Since the change from Nottingham Credit Union, the service has gone downhill massively. The difference is unbelievable. The staff now seem completely uninterested in helping members, and the whole organisation feels cold and uncaring.

After all this hassle, I wouldn’t be surprised if they decline the application anyway. The entire experience has left me feeling like they don’t value their members at all. I wouldn’t recommend this credit union based on what I’ve been through.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We are very sorry to hear how stressful and upsetting this has felt, especially at a time when you were looking to us for support.

We do sometimes need to ask for documents to support an application, and in some cases those documents need to include specific information before we can make a fair and safe lending decision. We understand how frustrating it can feel to be asked for further information, particularly if you feel you have already provided what was needed. However, this is usually because the documents received are missing key details that we need in order to properly assess the application based on individual circumstances.

A good repayment history with us is important and is always taken into account. However, we cannot base lending decisions on repayment history alone. As a responsible lender, we have to make sure any loan is affordable and suitable, both to protect the member applying and the wider membership of the credit union.

We are sorry that you felt the communication was poor and that you did not feel treated with the care and respect you expected. That is not the experience we want any member to have. We will review your comments internally and use them to look at where communication could have been clearer or more supportive.

We remain here to support our members and would encourage you to contact us directly so we can look into your application and concerns properly.
