Really poor admin.

Really poor. I can only speak for the Engineering/Computing Department, but it’s a massive administrative disaster. At the start of my first term, I was told to attend the student engagement centre for enrolment issues. After an hour in a queue, I was turned away as the entire centre was set up for RTS checks. I was sent to the faculty building for no advice, with my first classes already over. I tried emailing and calling, but was repeatedly ignored, hung up on, and dropped called. Eventually, I replied to a random email and was forced to contact the COURSE DIRECTOR. She went above her brief, and sent me to the Library, where I was turned away and sent to a building for an unrelated faculty. I queued for another hour and finally sorted my enrolment, but there were still IT issues.

During the actual course I was consistently given minimal information, timetables got changed last minute without warning and I was never sent a single email about any important information. My weeks were completely taken up by lessons that were spread as far as possible throughout the week. This left me with minimal time to work, essentially no time to study and definitely no time for a social life or any meaningful hobbies. They were extremely anal about attendance, however no-one mentioned this to me or told me about the 'touch points' so by my second term I'd officially attended 0 classes. I wasn't informed of exams at the end of my first term, obviously I missed them and had to resit. Unfortunately I was also not told when the resits were before chasing them up, all while studying for my actual term 2 exams and chasing staff members to find out what my coursework actually was (there was no information to say what the project was actually supposed to be). I will say some of the teachers were very good (Amanda Brooks, Jeffrey Ting) but this was completely outweighed by the terrible, rude, (and in one case seemingly illiterate) teachers (such as Katerina Stamou). My time at Coventry was ruined by poor admin and a lack of communication. Their insistence on using the worst apps known to mankind (such as Aula and Inspera) also didn't help. I constantly had to go out of my way to find out basic information and was never notified about important information. Not all of the problems were related to the faculty, however. The other students were also part of the problem. Mostly rude wannabes, they would talk over lecturers, answer calls in small classes and generally distract/detract from every class and lecture. You probably don’t want to come here, if I was you I’d put it as my last choice. You’ll fall out of love with whatever subject you want to study and get to live in a loud, dirty, cramped, dull city for the trouble.

This is a fake university just charging…

This is a fake university just charging fees.
They only need money.
I was studying at CU London Dagenham Campus and I couldn't submit my assignment. University did not give me a chance and withdrawal me from course. At the time of withdrawal they also sent me a message that pay remaining fees. Few days ago I received termination letter. Now I have to return back to my country.
So I am here to request all of you that do not trust Coventry University.

Go elsewhere

This university needs to remember that they are a business and that the student is the consumer. If you have the opportunity to study elsewhere, take it. I honestly wouldn't recommend Coventry University to anyone. They have little to no communication, do not value their students and just want your money.

International students beware…

International students are unexpectedly losing sponsorship. Disabling them from getting work experience in the UK. Masters students needing retake of any component of the degree lose their sponsorship and have to return home before any retakes can be processed and published. This is NOT part on the information used to attract students onto the degree course. If known, many would not apply to coventry university.

I’m so disappointed about the…

I’m so disappointed about the administration team at Coventry University. I got my conditional offer, but they forgot to send me the letter. Many emails and phone calls are sent to me after the deadline. They asking my academic reference which was sent to them, but they did not accept it because it was not sent from an official email, and no one informed me about the issue. So was sabotaged my application about the admission team. That the reason why is this university is ranked so bad. And that is giving themselves 5 stars, in the other case the university's reputation are going down.

Beware of unconditional offer

Very disappointed with this university and its” Unconditional offer “ it’s more like fill the space offer. No real assessment carried out prior to the offer. My son failed his first year and was left waiting well into the next year for his additional assignments to be marked, which he also failed. So nearly 2 years at Uni and now has missed out on apprenticeship opportunities due to his age. My advice if you get an unconditional offer, ask what it is based on, your child may well not be up to the work involved.

APPALLING - Avoid at all costs

Firstly on a positive note, the campus is amazing & you have lots of facilities which is useful whilst studying your chosen pathway.

Secondly, do not come here if you’re a student with any health conditions or learning difficulties. The staff members left me unconscious on the floor knowing the fact i have several severe health conditions knowing full well I needed to seek medical attention. The lack of care i received was absolutely appalling. The complaints team is shocking. Took absolutely no consideration into what happened, didn’t try to resolve the situation apart from blaming it all on me as the student and brushing it under the carpet using the excuse “its too late to consider a review”. No apology either.

Furthermore, the support regarding assignments is shocking. People get different amounts of help even when you’re asking as much as them. But get told “we can’t help as we’re marking”. You get pushed from pillar to post which is a never ending cycle just to get the support you’re asking for. The communication between staff is a joke.

We have to pay £9,500!!! What a waste of money. Do not waste your time. Do not give them your money. Avoid at all costs.

As a faculty member at Coventry

@sasimriz:
As a faculty member at Coventry University, I have had the privilege of being part of an institution that truly prioritises academic excellence and student success. The university fosters an exceptional academic environment where innovation and creativity are encouraged, and faculty members are empowered to engage in cutting-edge research and teaching methodologies.

One of the standout features of Coventry University is its unwavering commitment to supporting both faculty and students alike. From state-of-the-art facilities to comprehensive professional development opportunities, the university ensures that faculty members have the resources and support they need to excel in their roles.

Furthermore, the sense of community at Coventry University is unparalleled. Faculty members are valued members of a diverse and inclusive community, where collaboration and mutual respect are emphasized. The university fosters a culture of teamwork and collaboration, which not only enhances the academic experience but also creates a supportive and enriching environment for both faculty and students.

Overall, I am proud to be associated with Coventry University and would highly recommend it to both faculty members and prospective students. It is a place where academic excellence thrives, and where faculty members have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in their fields of expertise.
One of the things that sets Coventry University apart is its commitment to student support and well-being. From academic advisors to career services, the university provides comprehensive support services that ensure students have the resources they need to thrive. Whether it's academic assistance, career guidance, or personal support, I have always felt supported and valued as a student at Coventry University.

Additionally, the campus facilities are top-notch, with modern classrooms, well-equipped laboratories, and extensive library resources. The university also offers a wide range of extracurricular activities and clubs, allowing students to pursue their interests and connect with like-minded peers.

Overall, my time at Coventry University has been incredibly rewarding, and I would highly recommend it to anyone seeking a dynamic and enriching academic experience. It is a place where students are empowered to reach their full potential and make a positive impact in the world.

Terrible institution

If you are a sports enthusiast - do NOT choose this institution! Horrible facilities, almost no support for athletes, size of the facilities are designed for less than a 1000 students while university has roughly 40000 students.

University itself is advertised as “most modern in UK”. But their primary focus is money and expansion - not quality of education.

CU is located in central part of Coventry so its fully surrounded by homeless people and drug dealers.

terrible customer service

Teaching is okay for Civil Engineering as an international student I did have good tutors, however, I would like to say to the Vice Chancellor that you need to take a long hard look at the reception/registry staff at the John Laing office, I never met anyone as clueless as this lady she kept telling me to email the Engagement team when Registry is sitting behind a glass window next to her!!!

International students bring vibrancy, culture and a lot of money please treat us with dignity and respect. You get the same treatment at the Hub but you get shouted at and dehumanised for not speaking proper English my only regret was I did not send official complaints to get them fired as they are obviously incompetent but I feared they will jeopardise my visa status.

Thieving, negligent sorry excuse of a "university"

They only care about money, nothing else.

They made grave errors throughout my time there, causing me to stay additional years, and fork out additional money.

Refused to accept responsibility for their actions.

Lack of communication with students which caused misunderstandings, and issues with my grades, which they refuse to fix, and refuse accountability.

This has cost me multiple job opportunities and my mental health but they do not seem to care.

A lot of lecturers were terrible and didn't bother teaching properly. They would put on a PowerPoint and leave. Many never explained what to do.

Please do yourself a favour and do not choose this university.

I'm looking to pursue the errors caused by the university legally.

Money Grabbing University.

As a long standing resident of Coventry, I concur that Coventry University is a money grabbing institute. No benefits are offered to city residents, which might be offered to appease for the disruption the University causes the City.
Over several years I took evening classes in foreign languages. The cost to me, an older resident, was twice that charged to staff members and 4 times that charged to students doing degree courses.
The price difference for staff and residents does NOT make any sense to the user. Of the several courses I took only ever one course, one term was completely subscribed. Twice a course I wanted was cancelled because of insufficient participants, so there has always been spare capacity, so pricing was NOT being used as a management tool to limit numbers.

Why is there discrimination against Coventry residents? Shouldn't the University support the GoCV initiative?

horrible city, even worse uni

Living in the city centre you are surrounded by drug dealers and homeless people, I have been accosted by fellow students who openly deal drugs in bishop gate and the library, the security is non-existent they tell you to call the police instead. The engagement team don’t have a clue they send you to other locations and then send you back to the same location as before when they don’t know the answer they give you attitude and tell you to send an email instead. You would think they should know the answers the empathy towards students is shocking. The lecturers do care and try and contact engagement they don’t even reply to teachers! My advice is stay away from this institution.

A crappy experience, go elsewhere

I studied Integrative Counselling: Counselling Theory & Practice with CU Coventry. I like the layout of the course because it's a more digestable version of the University course and still counts as a BA Degree. However, I had one consistent tutor who was brilliant called Jo Ann and the rest of the course was a disorganised mess. They neglected to tell us about the course fees of self-funding our own counselling (30 hours with the usual rate of £50) and our own supervision (1.5 hours minimum weekly) until the second year. I could have worked and saved up in first year. Thankfully I found reductions by emailing independently. There is no support in finding counsellors or supervisors either. Aside from our one good tutor, the teachers consistently changed. One teacher ignored my emails completely until I CC'd in his manager (and did the same with several students). My friend felt bullied and singled out by one teacher, I went to assist her when she had a meeting with him and he disappeared. I can understand the odd teacher being unprofessional but sadly there were multiple rubbish teachers within these 3 years. Certain teachers excluded/disregarded specific teaching methods (despite being an integrative course) by openly stating their dislike rather than being unbias. There was no room for one of our lessons, just a last minute library space. The disorganisation was horrendous. During my third year, I had to leave to come home early due to Covid-19 to protect my mental health and the now head of course (an English teacher for us previously with zero counselling experience) contacted me on my personal mobile number (teachers should have boundaries!) which I had to ask her not to do! I then asked about my final exam coursework once completed. They thought I was due to pick this up despite the two to three times I'd asked to send it to my home address. Then when I got annoyed and asked them the third time for this, they finally sent it to me and the packing was damaged. I don't know if this was the university but a tracked parcel doesn't usually arrive in that state and it should have been due to GDPR law. Also my personal details in the coursework where in an envelope by reception for longer than necessary which made me uncomfortable and wonder where and if someone could have accessed them. I understand a lot of staff changes happened and perhaps they were desperate for staff but to have someone with no counselling experience or understanding really as head of the counselling course is beyond my comprehension. Lastly, there is an option to do a Certificate of Proficiency (Cop) course with BACP after graduation as the course is BACP approved, not accredited (which you now need as a standard job requirement). The requirements for accreditation are 350-450 hours and a £200 odd pound exam. The CoP exam is free for BACP approved courses. Thankfully my friend let me know, uni was rubbish with assistance at job hunting. I made several complaints to student services along with my parents across the three years, in which time nothing changed. When I was due to graduate we got an email on the 1st May for the 31st May (not enough notice) and the time was 9am (inconsiderate and inconvenient to anyone needing to travel). The whole experience was a mess. I would recommend you go elsewhere.

A Red Flag- Management needs to look into

To be honest, it was a good experience completing my course there, and the teachers are amazing.
The worst thing about CU London is the engagement team; oh my god, they are the worst. Unprofessional, rude, and lack of communication skills. A big red flag

Probably one of the worst university…

Probably one of the worst university ever. All they care about is money. Before starting the university I was promised £3000 scholarship which they refused laters. No support from the engagement team as well, If you email them they get back to you after 6,7 months hopefully. The engagement team staff is full of bunch of beginners which obviously don’t know how to speak to students let alone providing a solution. Really rude staff.
Moreover they block your account if you don’t pay you fees.
