Advertised discounts not honoured &, after five days of trying, I couldn't even place an order.
If I'd read some of their other 1* reviews about false advertising and poor customer service, I might have saved some time.
Here goes.
Directplants advertise a 15% NHS discount on the Health Service Discounts site which makes them competitive for the shrub I'm after. Unfortunately, the main site doesn't recognise the associated code. No problem, I Google discounts and another comes up - only 10% this time but it's near enough and I'll take the small hit. I add my plant to my cart, go to checkout and the code is accepted, so all good this time - until I come to pay. It won't let me progress beyond that point. I try later, no good. I try a different browser, still no good.
I message Directplants asking for support to complete my order. I send screen shots etc.
To their credit, although it took longer than they say it would, they replied a few days later. They clearly hadn't read my email as they asked what I'd ordered and what the issue was. I explain again. I'm told that the discount code is no longer valid, despite it still being shown as available online and despite it being accepted during the checkout process. I'm told to remove it and then try paying again but at full price. No doing the decent thing and honouring it, just a couple of brief emails telling me to keep trying.
After the best part of a week of attempting to place an order that really shouldn't have been this difficult, I decline their suggestion of continuing to try the same thing yet again in the hope that their website might this time accept my payment. By now, I've done a bit more digging and read their other negative reviews about poor customer service and I've lost confidence in them to put things right if there was any other sort of issue post payment.
This really all feels unnecessarily difficult and could have been resolved without alienating a potential new customer. I get that websites have glitches. I also get that some discounts are time limited. What I struggle with is when retailers do so little to take ownership or even attempt to put things right.

Mis-selling of plants
This business has no complaints procedure. They are in breach of contract for sending my father common green beech trees instead of invoiced purple copper beech trees. They have admitted their fault due to a warehouse error a week ago. After numerous calls and emails since, I am still awaiting tracking notification for the promised trees. BEWARE!

21.5 I accepted the recompense of the correct trees over a week ago with Keiran. These have not been forthcoming. Please advise when my father will receive them.

My obsession with fruit trees knows no bounds and Direct Plants have never let me down. Everything I order turns up promptly and well-packaged, and only once has one of their trees failed to flourish in my garden - it was replaced quickly and without quibble. Honestly, I don't even bother looking at other suppliers nowadays.

Would not use direct plants again. The courier company (DXExpress) they use are shambolic. Even though they emailed me twice to say they were delivering that day. 2 days on the trot they told me it was dealt with and it wasn't. No delivery date given. Eventually got a delivery date, items turned up a day early but half the items were missing. Just given excuses when I got back in touch. The missing package did turn up the next day. You are unable to talk to anyone on the phone, chat box only. Unfortunately Direct plants can only be contacted through email. 1-3 days.
Never again. Beware.

My wife bought me a shrub for my Birthday She ordered it on the Tuesday and arrived on the Friday It was well packed although a couple of bits where broken of as you would expect when travelling in a van I would highly recommend this company one the prices are fair and delivery is unbelievable and don't overdo charge on the postage

A great buying experience from start to finish. Communication was good throughout and we knew exactly when our trees were arriving. This is the 2nd order from Direct plants and certainly won’t be our last. The trees arrived very healthy and packaged well. The trees we bought last year are doing fantastic and this encouraged us to return to buy more but a different kind of tree. The information on the web is great as we needed trees that were suitable for large pots and the information was there for us. Great company.

Lovely plant. Tall, fully flowering and it's ready to plant out after a settling into the garden period. It was infested with white fly but a quick spray seems to have settled the problem. Packaged well for safe delivery and reasonable price🪻✨️😊
