I have given unwanted items to Dorothy House in Melksham in the past and have always found the staff to be friendly, polite and helpful. My contributions have always been warmly accepted.
Afew months ago, however, I took just a few unwanted items in one carrier bag to the shop and was refused to leave them. The excuse I was given was that a party sign, which was made of plastic and in a triangle warning shape sign, would not sell and the plastic toy gun that only had one plastic bullet in it could not be put for sale in the shop and the charity shop worker advised that no charity shop would accept a toy gun. So I said that it wasn't real, it was a toy! My daughters used to play with it. None of my items were accepted and I left with all of them. I then took the bag to another charity shop that I also support for cats. They took all of my items with no fuss or excuses. So I haven't taken any more items to Dorothy House and will not be doing so. I will continue to take my unwanted items to the cat charity shop or to Bath Cat and Dogs Home. I will not be shopping in Dorothy House again either, they will not be getting my financial support anymore! Very disappointed in their attitude that they are now picking and choosing what items to sell. It's a CHARITY SHOP! They should be grateful for anything because without people's donations they will have nothing to sell. In my opinion they have too many outlets and have a snobbery about them.

Lovely good value cards. Some had local christmassy scenes which enhanced their attractiveness.

My 5 star rating is for the web ordering and delivery process and not the slimline calendar itself which is a great disappointment. For many years I have been sending the calendar as a gift to relatives born but no longer living in the west country, the local photos being a reminder of scenes of the Bath area. These were stopped last year. To make matters worser there are now adverts, reducing the space for writing in engagements to totally inadequate. Do we really want to see an ad for a funeral director for the whole of April or a monumental mason in February?

Lovely card, would prefer a matt presentation

I like the variety of cards that Dorothy house uses especially when they use views of towns in this area. The cards arrived promptly and were well packaged and priced.
It is good to support a local charity especially at this time of year

Dorothy House looked after my sister in law and I wanted to continue to support the amazing work they do. I was very pleased to see I could buy my Christmas cards from their shop and use this as another way to make a small contribution. The cards a very good value and I will be proud to send them to my family and friends.

I had to pay £3.50 for extra postage. However I was more than happy to pay because you are a wonderful organisation and looked after my sister-in-law, and all of us, so wonderfully in her dying days over twenty years ago and you have a special place in my heart. xx
