Horrible service, do not use
Horrible service, do not use. We booked a rental car, our flight was delayed from Miami - Keflavik, and our luggage was delayed. As a result, we arrived slightly delayed to rental car company, leant they had cancelled our reservation 😢.
Did they pro-actively contact us in advance?No.
Did they have our contact details? Yes.
Did they ever contact us to say ”hey, we may have to cancel your booking unless you respond.” No
Did they provide any type of service? No.
Did they check whether our flight was delayed? No.
As a result, we had to book another rental car company, and had to pay € 500 extra for on the spot. Very sad. That is why we want to warn everyone about this awful car company. They should change the name to NoFairCar. I have travelled to 91 countries around the world, I use tons of rental car companies, this is the worst experience. Never again.

Vi fik en ældre Dacia 4x4 som dog klarede en uge uden problemer. Returnering gik også fint (kl 03:30) Bilen havde mange stenslag og ridser, men vi blev ikke opkrævet for noget. Vi havde også taget billeder og video af alt ved udlevering.
Så en fin oplevelse og billig bil🙂
Terrible - DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY
This rental car company is truly terrible, use at your own risk. 1 Star is to good for this company, if possible I would give it 0 stars
When we booked a car we arranged to be picked up from the airport. We advised the car company that we would be travelling with an 11 month old baby and required a baby seat
When we landed we had to wait over 40 minutes at the airport to be picked up. Whenever we contacted the office highlighting that we had a baby with us they said the transport was on its way and would be with us shortly so we had no idea how long we would be waiting for, by the time the transport arrived it was 40 minutes from when we first contacted the company
When the transport arrived the bus could not fit our whole party plus luggage so only the drivers of the cars (we hired 2 cars) could be taken to collect the vehicles. The rest of the party including an 11 month old baby had to wait at the airport
It took over 2hrs from us first contacting the car rental company to us coming back with the cars to pick up the rest of our party
Due to the terrible way this rental company handles customers you have to sign for the vehicle before you have seen it. There is no way to highlight if the vehicle has been damaged or is not in the same state because you have already signed for it
We then drove from the airport to Reykjavik, less than 50 km's. When we got to Reykjavik the front passengers tire was completely flat, even worse than just being flat the thread of the tire was showing. In the UK this is illegal and the police would take the car off of the road if found in this condition
When I called the rental company they said the tire was perfect, there was no issue with the tire and that I had to pay to replace the tire. I said I would bring the car back and they said that I would have to pay extra for petrol and I would still have to pay to replace the tire
When I took the car to the garage, the mechanic said the tire was in a terrible condition, the thread should not be showing around the edge. The mechanic also explained the reason for the puncture was the car had completely the wrong tires on for the time of year. The car had snow tires when it wasnt snowing this resulted in one of snow studs being pushed into the tire causing the puncture. So the company is making customers pay for new equipment instead of putting the correct equipment on the cars
We now have 3 days driving round Iceland with an 11 month old baby in a car with the wrong tires and support from a company that is frankly horrible to deal with
If you are happy to:
- have your family and loved ones left at an airport for 2hrs
- be given a car in an illegal condition
- have a company that denies any responsibility for any issues you might have
Then this is the company for you
The service we have received so far has been truly terrible and we will not use this company or any of its affiliates in the future

I booked through checck24, it said "in terminal" but its facility is at outskirts 6 minutes shuttle. I was waiting for the shuttle 20 minutes. Check in was per screen remote with bad speaking English staff. Bad explanation, ID card fell into the reader... The car had 280.000km + and was in bad condition. heating barely working... On the return I had been confirmed shuttle back to the Terminal at 6am. upon checkout the staff said max 6.30... DO NOT BOOK THIS COMPANY!!

DO NOT USE. I booked through "stress free car hire" via a comparison website and got badly scammed. They deliberately make you wait for ages at the airport terminal, then drive you out to the middle of nowhere and then, via a zoom style call set up, aggressively upsell you everything or tell you the car you wanted is not available etc. You've been waiting so long by this point you just agree. Unethical and unfair. The cars themselves are old, scratched, tyres are worn. Do yourself a favour, go with a reputable firm.
Timadas y decepcionadas
3 coches en 10 días....el primer coche salto la alarma de avería al 2 día,nos decían que no era nada, les obligamos a cambiarlo...en el segundo se rompió la llave del coche al abrir el depósito de gasolina,no estaba en buenas condiciones,pero lo mejor de todo fue que no tenían llave de repuesto así que nos remolcaron otro coche y nos clavaron 1300 euros por eso. Éramos 2 chicas....nos sentimos timadas y encima el seguro a todo riesgo nos dijo que eso no lo cubría. Lo barato al final sale caro.

Ho avuto un problema per una mia dimenticanza sulla vettura e grazie a Raian Tawil è stato gentilissimo e super disponibile. Il suo aiuto è stato molto professionale.
Menomale che ci sono persone come lui che fanno sì che anche un problema può essere risolto semplicemente.

Scammers
Travel is both my work and my hobby. I travel all over the world. Along with the Azores, Madeira, and Romania, this comes at the bottom.
The guy who picked us up at the airport was fairly quick to arrive. When we arrived at the site, as always with cheaper car hire companies, the lighting is dreadful to inspect the car. We couldn't inspect it properly until the next morning. It was a spent looking with a few minor marks. It was okay, but not great. However, the main issue was the tires. They were well-worn and hadn't been changed in a very long time. The worst tires I've ever seen on rental cars.
We had purposely booked an SUV (which they themselves say is 'suitable for the highlands'!!) for highland travel, but they basically ban you from using any road in the highlands, plus more. Do not trust this company.
When we were signing the papers, which took forever, the guy gave us a list of roads of which they ban you from using, expecting us to guess all these roads as we go about our holiday. Ridiculous.
Thankfully, we got through most our holiday without any issues. However, on the morning of our departure, we noticed that the car had gotten an inevitable flat tire. We had to change it ourselves. We were actually amazed that it didn't happen before with such dreadful tires.
When we got to the company, it was extremely slow service. It was almost comical how it is run. They take AGES to do things here. When it was finally our turn, we informed them of the puncture, and they had the nerve to charge us for it - a whopping €350 - claiming that they would have to replace the whole tire, for a small puncture, even though they had given us a car with already well worn-down tires.
We were not in the mood for arguing with them, so we let it go and just claimed from our insurance. Basically these cowboys are just getting insurance companies to pay to fix their crappy cars.
I definitely wouldn't recommend this company. You basically end up paying for them to upgrade their shattered cars. You may as well just go for the higher-end car rental companies. You'll end up paying the same anyway.
Fraud
Fair Car / City Car Rental & Nordic Travel Group are all part of the same setup. Offering cheap car rentals just to lure customers into their scam setup. Rest assured that when you return the vehicle they will initiate their fraud. We did rent a Susuki that turned out to be worn out, filled with scratches and damages. We did of course take a lot of pictures - however when returning the car they claimed the door was windblown and ended up threatening us to pay 3600 EUR up front for the repair. They clearly stated that we would not be allowed to leave the premises before having paid. Obviously we have been disputing the damages and subsequently provided solid evidence that this is fraud. Unfortunately they are impossible to reason with so we will pursue the matter....
Unpleasant experience
It started off by us finding out we are not getting our car at the airport, but instead have to wait for their staff person to take us someplace else. Once there, we were sent to a cabin to talk over the internet with some guy over Zoom (it was around midnight).
This guy told us the car we reserved is not available. He did not understand English well. He did not apologize. He looked annoyed that he has to do his job. After some time, he offered us another car. We were forced to sign the agreement before even seeing the car and they insisted on us showing our credit card on the camera, both sides of it. It might be a common practice, but that changes nothing on the fact that it is outrageous.
The car in itself was fine save for the last day of our journey when the engine would not start. I do not think a healthy battery does this when not used for a single day (we stayed the whole day at the camp the day before). The tech support insisted we use WhatsApp for communication and as soon as we did stopped answering our calls.
On WhatsApp, they took usually about 15 minutes to respond and again, I was not sure the person on the other end understands what I am saying (my English is C1 according to Cambridge) and at one point I had a very ChatGPT impression when he basically validated me on being wrong and then went on with addressing the issue. They sent us a taxi to jumpstart the battery and we got to return the car without other issues. I have to say that they sent us the money for the taxi.
So while nothing horrible has happened, we still wasted a day of our trip thanks to the battery problem and there was a very unpleasant feeling hanging above the car as we did not really trust it not to break somewhere on the road. DO NOT RECOMMEND!
Best deal!
Lowest price gave me a car with some dents and bruises (who cares?) which ran smoothly. Pickup and drop off at the airport was fast and went perfect. People in the office very nice. I would recommend them!
Anything but fair
Was helping a German friend in a battle after they claimed that her Duster SUV was not allowed on road 864 and that she had to pay 1000 Euro fine.
Eventhough we sent screenshots of the rental agreement they doubled down claiming it was forbidden.
Studying the rental agreement I find it prposturous that they advertise their SUV (including land cruisers) as "suitable for highland" and then in the rental agreement they exclude pretty much every single F-Road, and probably every road that has a puddle on it because "no insurance covers water damage"
Avoid at all cost. If you have already booked, your cheapest option would be to book a car somewhere else.
FairCar snyder med skader ved aflevering af bilen
Ingen tvivl om at FairCar er blandt de billigeste biludlejningsselskaber på Island og vi fik en okay pris på en gammel Suzuki Vitara (185.000km) til omkring 5.000dk for 10 dage - Alt gik fint med afhentning i lufthavnen og udlevering af bilen.
Vi tog masser af billeder af bilen i forbindelse med udleveringen da den var godt bulet og ridset over det hele og vi ville selvfølgelig sikre at vi ikke senere skulle hænge på en regning for udbedring af disse skader
Hvor filmen knækker for udlejningsselskabet er i forbindelse med afleveringen - der bliver vi mødt med et krav om at skulle betale 3.900EUR for en beslag på døren som åbenbart skulle være ødelagt på grund af vindstød
Vi havde desværre ingen billeder af disse komponenter da vores fokus var på dokumentation af de ydre skader som buler og ridser
Hele afleverings processen virkede iscenesat og det tidligere så flinke personale skiftede hurtigt karakter til at holde os tilbage indtil der var underskrevet på accepten af skaden samt reseveret et beløb på kreditkortet
Når man så efterfølgende læser om alle de personer der har haft samme oplevelse med dette firma ville man ønske at valget havde været et af de mere etablerede firmaer som måske ville koste lidt mere men hvor man i det mindste bliver behandlet anstændigt og ikke bliver taget til gidsel som vi oplevede det
Vi har efterfølgende valgt at gøre indsigelse imod deres krav om reparation af døren så vi må se hvor sagen ender
Men et godt råd ville være at benytte et ad de andre udlejningsfirmaer der mere end 2 stjerner på Trustpilot :)

Après avoir rendu le véhicule, il a regarder la voiture pendant 10 min jusqu’à nous trouver un sois disant bout de plastique à la portière qu’il m’a facturer 2240€ !!!!!
Puis les procédures ont durée 40 min et j’ai presque rater mon vol !!!!

Cette compagnie a voulu me facturer un dommage sur la portière passager, alors que cette portière était déjà coché sur l’état des lieux, le dommage était présent mais ils voulaient m’arnaquer. Après mon refus de signer et d’accepter cela, il m’a refusé le transfert vers l’aéroport et j’ai dû prendre un taxi et risquer de rater mon vol.
Je vous conseille d'ajouter quelques euros et d’aller chez Hertz, Avis, budget, bref une grande compagnie.
Worst rental ever – best avoided
I rent cars all over the world and have never had a worse experience. Where do I start? The car was ancient, dirty and covered in scratches and dents. The rear camera regularly failed, subjecting us to annoying warning flashes on the dashboard. The USB plug for the stereo/GPS system was missing, so we couldn't connect our phone. Worst of all the front right tyre had a slow leak which we noticed (thanks to more flashing alarms on the dashboard) about 15 minutes after picking up the car. Fair Car wasn't interested in fixing the problem or giving us another car, so we spent an entire week driving round Iceland on a partially-deflated tyre, constantly looking for petrol stations to pump it back up again. Not cool and not safe during an Iceland winter. No apology, no sympathy, no offer of a discount from Fair Car – just a surly agent grumbling about having to pump up the tire himself.
Absolutely shocking
We booked with Wheego Iceland via Economy Booking. However the offices said -Fair Car / Nordic Car Rental Absolutely shocking, left us at the airport then when they eventually arrived the guy was so rude. Kept insisting that we follow his process and sign for the car despite us wanting to record a massive bump in the car. There was lots of scratches and dents and he wouldn’t let us record them before signing. He left us to find the car in the carpark, which is large, wouldn’t even show us.VERY RUDE staff and cars not up to scratch DO NOT USE. As we wouldn t sign unless we noted the dent on the form he cancelled our booking, now we re left to try and reclaim amounts for
Booking agent -Economy Booking - let s see what happens there . Very bad & nasty experience not sure why the company would allow the guy in question to deal with customers!!!
Car not roadworthy, long wait
Waited over an hour for the shuttle. We were assured it was running "all the time" but the round trip is no more than 30 minutes. Car was dirty and low on wper fluid with a malfunctioning read wiper. Rear camera so dirty as to be nonfunctional. In Iceland weather these problems directly compromise the safety of drivers. DO NOT RECOMMEND
